So Your Favorite Rock Station Just Went Sports…

This has nothing to do with Cleveland sports other than it is a reaction to the rumor article from last week that 92.3 FM in Cleveland might be switching formats to sports talk.  There were a few of you who bemoaned the potential loss of your favorite rock station.  I just wanted to address those people for a second unrelated to sports.  This site caters to a certain demographic and I don’t think it is out of line to hit on something relevant to the culture and lifestyle of that demographic.  I know change stinks, but it will only hurt for a second if and when 92.3 FM turns off their playlists of alternative rock.

I’ve been scared by change plenty of times in my life.  I am a lover of Windows, but I desperately wanted to have a Mac for music recording.  When I first started playing with the Macbook Pro I didn’t think I would EVER get used to it.  I did and now I love both Mac and Windows.

Last year, I decided as a football fan that it was time to make the switch to DirecTV so I could get the Sunday Ticket.  When I turned off those cable boxes and had to resubscribe my DVR to all my favorite shows, it was a pain.  When I realized that “On Demand” on DirecTV isn’t really all that “on demand” I was nervous.  When I tried to watch Mad Men and realized that DirecTV doesn’t have that channel in HD, I was a bit annoyed. LeBron James vs. Art Modell Is An Easy One

I did a segment for a sports radio show called The Sports Insiders out of Buffalo this weekend on WECK 1230.  They wanted me to talk about Cleveland sports in general, specifically the Cleveland Indians and what LeBron James is doing in the playoffs.  The host, Joe Major, read the name of this website to the delight of his two co-hosts who noted that it could easily be a Buffalo Bills website as well.  We talked about the Indians’ start and how it is mostly tied to pitching and that will be the only path for it to continue.  This was obviously before I saw the huge outburst of runs the Tribe offense put up last night.  Eventually, the question came of who scored higher on the Cleveland hate scale between LeBron James and Art Modell.

I answered quickly and easily.  Without a doubt, it is Art Modell by a landslide.  I know we’ve talked about this a few times already since “The Decision,” but it bears repeating as we continue to gain distance from LeBron toying with the city of Cleveland.  LeBron James for all the negative feelings he implanted in us by handling his business in such an awful fashion can never ever do to us by taking himself away from us what Art Modell did by moving the Browns to Baltimore.  Never. Colt McCoy Talks Browns, Steelers on The Dan Patrick Show

Dan Patrick caught up with Colt McCoy today on his radio show, and in case you missed it, I wanted to run down some of the stuff that Colt had to say.  If you would like to listen to the entire segment, you can do that on DanPatrick.com

DP: “Are you the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns?”

CM: “Well, I finished the season as the starting quarterback, so I hope so.”

DP: “Do you have a business card that says, ‘Colt McCoy – Starting Quarterback’?”

CM: “No, I don’t.  I just work hard every day, go to work, and know that I am the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.”

DP: “Have you been told that?”

CM: “(laughing) I’m on the hot seat already.  It was unfortunate that I got hurt, but I think that was the intent to finish off the season….”

DP: “Who has bigger arms… Peyton Hillis or Joe Thomas?” [Read more...]

Talking Protests, Browns, and Cavaliers in Athens, Ohio

I was asked to appear on a sports radio talkshow in Athens, Ohio- home of the Ohio Bobcats. The segment went live last Friday night, but you can hear a podcast of the discussion here if you are interested. Thanks Brian for the opportunity. The first segment is with Bobcat head coach John Groce. My segment starts at the 12 minute mark. If you are curious about my take on the Brown-out you can listen. Here’s hoping the Browns make news on the field instead of the fans making news in the seats.

While We’re Waiting… Delonte’s Comments, Mangini’s Fate, and Topping the Orlando Magic

While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.

delonte_west tattoosGetcha notebook ready: “[Delonte West] was asked after Wednesday’s shootaround how he is progressing after having two leaves of absence during training camp to attend to personal matters. West ended up not playing in the first three games of the season.  “One plus one is two and C always comes out to A and B,” West said to FanHouse.

West, who hadn’t spoken to reporters since media day Sept. 28, was asked what that meant. “One plus one always be two,” he said.

West again was asked to clarify. “One plus one always be two, brother,” he said. West declined further comment. [Chris Thomasson/FanHouse]

WFNY on the Radio

thefanJust a heads up that I’ll be appearing on the Sportstalk with Koza show today at 5:05 on ESPN Lima’s 93.1 The Fan. I believe you can listen to the show through the site here. I’m not sure how long the segment will be, but I appreciate Vince giving us the chance to talk Cleveland sports with those in the Northwestern part of the state.

Those interested in calling the show the number is 1-888-894-ESPN. I hope to get to talk about the Cavs, as well as the current sad state of the Browns.

And yes, I realize this is shameless self-promotion. But admitting that is best right?
