“[Mike] Brown apparently decided to stop short of directly thanking any players, including LeBron James. Repeatedly during his tenure Brown said he was thankful that James “allows me to coach him,” a reference to the professional relationship the two enjoyed for many years.

However, that relationship seemed to erode during the playoffs, when James publicly disagreed with his coach’s motivation methods and in-game decisions. Behind the scenes, sources said James and Brown differed on game plan choices against both the Bulls and Celtics.

No matter what, Brown will be moving away from Cleveland’s west side, where he became a part of the community and formed many friendships.” [Brian Windhorst]

Rodriguez, UM Cough up Cash

Richie Rich will be a little lighter in the wallet soon. The woodchucks new coach has settled his contract dispute with WVU. In the end Rodriguez will pay $1.5 million (spread over three easy installments of just $500,000 each) while the U of M will pay $2.5 million up front. Oh, and they are going to cover the coaches’ legal bills as well.

Adam Rittenberg is ESPN’s new Big Ten Blogger, and he had this to say about the news-

But the prospect of avoiding a trial and having his new bosses — athletic director Bill Martin and university president Mary Sue Coleman — give depositions in the case surely will provide some degree of relief to Rodriguez and the Michigan camp. The timing of the agreement, just before a ruling in Michigan on whether Martin and Coleman had to give depositions, suggests Rodriguez wanted this to finally go away. Now he can enter preseason camp without a major distraction.
