No. 12 Buckeyes 35, Cal Golden Bears 28: Braxton Miller, Devin Smith Survive Ugly Performance at the ‘Shoe

This has not been a good start for the Big Ten in 2012. Already, just three weeks into the season and conference play still a couple weeks away, several of the conference’s top contenders have suffered devastating losses.

That nearly was the case for No. 12 Ohio State on Saturday, with the upset-minded California team in Columbus. Barely, barely, OSU managed to hold on for dear life in a back-and-forth 35-28 victory.

Just like last week against Central Florida, however, the Buckeyes came out strong in the first half, looking like they’d cruise to an easy victory. But lazy defense, especially in terms of penalties and finishing tackles, made this contest way more interesting. [Read more...]

Dispatch: Storm Klein to be re-instated to football team

Tim May was the first to report Storm Klein’s dismissal from the football team and now he’s the first to report his re-instatement. Back in July, Klein was dismissed after charges of domestic violence and assault were brought against him.

At the time, it was considered a tough stance by Urban Meyer, but probably also necessary considering the recent past at Ohio State regarding the NCAA.

Now it appears after getting his charges reduced, Klein is on the path to re-instatement.

Here are some homework assignments for three Cavalier players, starting off with The Kid: “Kyrie Irving is by far the best player that wears the Wine & Gold. Like, from “New York to LA”-far. Like, he is probably a top 20-25 player in the world, right now, without a real ceiling to speak of. But the thing about players’ ceilings, and not having hit them yet, is that it by definition means that the player can still improve.” [David Zavac/Fear the Sword]

Urban Meyer Dismisses Storm Klein From OSU Football Team

First reported by Tim May from the Columbus Dispatch, following charges of domestic violence and assault, linebacker Storm Klein has been dismissed from the Ohio State football team by Head Coach Urban Meyer. Meyer said in a press release,

“The charges filed against Storm Klein violate the core values of the Ohio State Football Program. It has been made very clear that this type of charge will result in dismissal. If there are any changes in the charges, we will re-evaluate his status.”

Klein, a 6’2″ senior linebacker from Newark, recorded 45 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack, 1 INT, 1 FF, and 1 fumble recovery in his junior season in a starting role before losing it late in the season to freshman Ryan Shazier.

This is the second harsh stance that Meyer has had to take in his short time as OSU Head Coach amid criticism of higher than average lawbreaking on his watch at Florida. The first was removing the scholarships of tight end Jake Stoneburner and offensive lineman Jack Mewhort for the summer quarter.

OSU LB Storm Klein Arrested

Ohio State senior linebacker Storm Klein was arrested Friday evening in Columbus on charges of domestic violence and assault.

Klein, who has started 10 games for the Buckeyes and a potential starter, remains innocent until proven guilty of course. But his arrest marks already the 3rd arrest for Buckeye players since Urban Meyer’s arrival.

The Buckeye coach came to Columbus with a reputation for having players with legal issues at Florida and while he didn’t recruit any of the players who have been arrested, this certainly isn’t going to sit well with the coach. If the charges stick, expect Klein to be made into an example by Meyer.

No details or comments have been released by Ohio State at this time.
