Jim Tressel to Join WKYC as Special Contributor

Jim Tressel, beleaguered former OSU football coach and current University of Akron executive, will be coming soon to a TV near you. Here’s the latest from the PD’s Mark Dawidziak:

Former Ohio State University head coach Jim Tressel is joining the WKYC Channel 3 team as a special contributor. His weekly report, “A Moment With Jim Tressel,” will air each Wednesday during the Gannett-owned station’s 7 p.m. newscast.

Tressel is now 59 years old and is still on the NCAA show cause penalty for the tattoo-gate scandal that led to his firing at Ohio State. He is the Vice President for Strategic Enhancement at Akron, and makes about as many public appearances in the community as university President Luis Proenza.

According to the PD story, the new Tressel segment will be based of his best-selling books and motivational speeches.

In some way, shape or form, you’ve got to think Tressel will be making his way back to coaching eventually. Or maybe politics it seems, based on his continued popularity in the state.

While We’re Waiting…Browns Drive for 8-8, Snow Bowl, and Cavs Roster Flexibility

Browns Drive for .500: “To even entertain the thought of this team finishing at .500 or better is more than enough to consider the 2010 season a success. It will make a Browns fan’s head explode to think about the close games the Browns lost this season, but making these final four games count will allow us to still consider this season a success. To finish at 8-8 or even 9-7 would provide plenty of momentum heading into the off-season, and should do more than enough to silence the rumblings about Eric Mangini’s job security.  The Browns are about to embark on a quest that begins in Buffalo this Sunday. It’s a quest that can finally help this team transcend into respectability. The path won’t be easy, but a .500 season sets this team up for what could be a memorable 2011.” [Steve DiMatteo/DawgPoundDaily/NFL Blog Blitz]

Cavs lost 105-98 to the Spurs last night, LBJ played well and both of the coaches sat out the second half: “One could picture them with their feet up with cold beverages as the second half dragged on. There was some work being done as the Cavs lost to the Spurs, 105-98. But it was limited, sort of like the interest from the head coaches. Perhaps they knew, as there were 61 fouls called and 78 combined free throws.” [Brian Windhorst/Cleveland Plain Dealer]

Cavs Scrimmage Notes: Delonte West Held Out

The Cavaliers held their annual Wine & Gold intra-squad scrimmage game today at the James A. Rhodes Arena in Akron. The event, which traditionally kick starts the preseason for the Cavs, was filled with news today yet again as Delonte West and Shaquille O’Neal both made the news headlines. Playing at the JAR, the home court of the Akron Zips as well as the former alternative home court for LBJ’s St. V-M Irish back in high school, it was sold out to a maximum crowd of 5,000 with many waiting at the line for tickets as early as 8:00 a.m. this morning.

On to the news information, West has held out of the scrimmage today despite showing up to team practices Thursday. The troubled guard, who may face legal trouble and/or suspension from the NBA, missed the first few practices at the start of training camp. He was supposedly held out due to the ever-cautious hand of GM Danny Ferry.
