Ken Dorsey is fine

Have you ever had something go wrong and then you realize it ended up being okay? Most of my life has been spent being fine with the circumstances around me even if they are a little inconvenient. The only bad haircut I got in my life was when I was in my very early 20s; I told the beauty school girl that I used a No. 2 clippers on the sides of my hair and she buzzed my whole head. I kept my hair that way for the next 6 months.  I was fine with being fine, even if it wasn't something I hadn't wanted. This basically describes how I and most of Cleveland probably feel, with the hire of Ken Dorsey as the new offensive coordinator for your Cleveland Browns.Dorsey was most recently the OC in Buffalo, taking over that job after Brian Daboll left to be the head coach of the New York Giants. Buffalo was the 4th highest-scoring offense in 2022 with 455 points and quarterback Josh Allen threw for 4,283 yards, 35 touchdowns, and scored another seven with his legs while accruing 762 yards on the ground. 2023 was going a similar way, as the team finished 6th in points (451) and Allen is an MVP candidate. However, it wasn't all sun and roses, as Buffalo was in a slump and lost a tough Monday Night Football matchup against the Denver Broncos that dropped them to 5-5 in Week 10 and let Dorsey go. The Bills went 6-1 to finish out the season, highlighted by the rush attack coming to form with James Cook upon Dorsey's departure.Dorsey is not a flashy name; he's not the "Jim Schwartz of the offense" that a hire like Kellen Moore would have been, but Cleveland has been hesitant to pull play-calling duties away from head coach Kevin Stefanski, so it's no surprise the Browns went a little "below slot" and brought in Dorsey. The pros are there, while Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson does not have the Howitzer attached to his right shoulder in the way that Allen does, especially after shoulder surgery, their game plays out the same. Allen is a tank in the open field and Buffalo ran a lot of RPO plays that Cleveland has worked into the game plan with Watson under center/in the shotgun. The weapons around the team on offense are similar as well: Stefon Diggs and Amari Cooper are both skilled wide receivers, David Njoku and rookie Dalton Kincaid are big beefy middle-of-the-field pass catchers, and both teams employ bruising running backs in James Cook and Nick Chubb. It's expected that Cleveland will target a wide receiver in free agency and/or the draft, and former Bill Gabriel Davis is a free agent at year's end, so a reunion with Dorsey could also be in the cards. It's disheartening that Buffalo seemingly found the run game after Dorsey left, but it is also widely accepted that Dorsey was not the issue with the Bills skid this season. In the game that led to his firing, the special teams and defense both had blunders that led to Broncos points and Allen was exploding on the scene. Dorsey will work with renowned running backs coach Duce Staley and Stefanski to create a game plan that fits what the Browns have on tap and what they will work with as the offseason unfolds. He may not be the huge splashy move that fans wanted, especially after Moore was hired in Philadelphia over the weekend. But, like an unexpected buzzcut, it can grow on you. Dorsey is fine.
