HELLO AND WELCOME to the WFNY Podcast, part of the Waiting For Next Year community and brought to you by *drumroll* YSN, Your Sports Network. I am Joe Gerbs Gerberry and if you are wondering what’s going on, why can you see my face… you’re not alone. I’m recording this on Tuesday night, Feb 24th so if I mention anything that’s out of date, this might not be evergreen lol.
I am here tonight to give you an update about a new thing that’s happening here at WFNY. I had a really great meeting with my friend DJ Yokley and we are partnering up with YSN to have our content over here at this brand new (to us) network with tons of new eyes and ears. We both agreed there is a lot of connectivity within our fan bases, tons of people may not see what we do here at Waiting For Next Year but would love what we have going on here. So hi!
Let’s get into who we are here at Waiting For Next Year. We are a Cleveland-based fan site, run by fans who understand the loyalty, passion, and heartbreak that comes with being a Cleveland sports fan. WFNY has been around since 2008, which if you’re bad at math, is 18 years, and I’ve been running a part of WFNY since 2016. Craig, Andrew, and Scott graciously bowed out of ownership and handed the reins to me around 2019 and I’ve been the driver of the bus since. And because I am the one in charge, I wanna share some about me. My body and soul has been born and bred for Cleveland sports, I was born on the exact day Bernie Kosar started his first game in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns, and I’ve been here the whole time, learning Albert Belle’s batting stance, crying over voicemail to my dad about the Joe Thomas/Brady Quinn draft picks, I was in town for the Cavs parade, and I absolutely did damage to the structural integrity of my home during the 2016 World Series.
What do we do at WFNY? We cover Cleveland sports, with written word and podcasts. On this feed, you’ll find a few different podcasts (now with video): the WFNY BrownsCast, WFNY CornerCast covering the Guardians, as well as the WFNY CavsCast. Most of them will be hosted by yours truly, but we have a couple of guys that take the producer chair when I’m not around as well. I love to write, it will always be my first avenue to getting you content, but I’ve fallen in love with podcasting as well. We don’t break news here, but you will hear or read discussion about whatever breaks sooner rather than later. And we aren’t just state-sponsored media either that praise the team; I have no issue calling any of the organizations for bad personnel moves or firing COTY candidates when the GM should have been let go…I digress.
If you have already been a follower of Waiting For Next Year, I want to say thank you. Thank you for sticking by us, for helping us keep this dream alive. Nothing will change about the way you get WFNY content, you might just get more of it! YSN has been covering local and high school sports in the Mahoning Valley and neighboring area for years, broadcasting games and covering the amazing student athletes we have here. So hopefully, if you’re following us at WFNY, you follow YSN as well.
When you click on the YSN website, the first words you see are “Loyal, Local, Live”. It truly holds true for us at WFNY as well. We are as loyal as they come and I am so happy you have been loyal with us as we enter this new chapter for WFNY.
