“Truly, no one has come closer to replicating Jordan in the art of maximizing the talent around him. And if I may say so, no one since Jordan has been a better two-way player, with LeBron emerging as a dominant defensive force who wills teammates to match his lockdown commitment — how about his “chase downs” of 22 opponents in the open court to block seemingly easy dunks or layups? The Cavs will have to win a title before James legitimately can begin to match the Jordan legend, of course. But he has established how he can take a roster that otherwise wouldn’t reach the postseason and produce 66 victories and favored status in the Eastern Conference. When the Cavs play the Lakers in June — I said when, not if — it will be the most awaited NBA Finals in some time.” [Jay Mariotti/AOL FanHouse]

I can’t wait for him to be good for someone else because we didn’t trade anyone: “The Browns offensive coaching staff was impressed with Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell and might like to add him to the roster in the future, Harrell’s agent said on Monday.  The staff felt Harrell, who participated in rookie camp on a tryout basis, picked up the system quickly and has great potential, the source said. However, the team let him leave town without a contract, in part because it currently has four quarterbacks on the roster.” [Mary Kay Cabot/Plain Dealer]

Hey, Jhonny… May want to take a few plays off: “Meanwhile, Jhonny Peralta’s ongoing struggles might put him in more of a fight for at-bats. Wedge could start Valbuena at second base and move Asdrubal Cabrera to short. He can also use Valbuena to spell Mark DeRosa at third…The Indians don’t view Valbuena as a long-term utilityman but rather as a potential starter. So his presence, like that of LaPorta, has potential to impact the lineup going forward.” [Anthony Castrovince/CastroTurf]

It’s good to see other Cleveland athletes taking note on what the Cavaliers have been able to do this season. [Mary Schmitt Boyer/Plain Dealer]

Hey, look.  Atlanta hates Jon Barry too: “Man, I could care less about what Jon Barry is saying. That’s what he’s doing what he’s doing and we’re doing what we’re doing. What he says don’t amount to nothing. Again, I don’t even know why I’ve wasted my words on Jon Barry. My focus right now is with my team and trying to get ready for Cleveland. I’m trying to figure out what has he done in the league, really. That’s just how I look at. I’m moving on.” [SportsRadioInterviews]

wasn’t espn and the rest of the media proclaiming LAST years finals as “the most awaited NBA Finals in some time” also?
being the return of lakers/celtics and all… i mean i see where mariotti’s coming from (and i agree), but last year seemed to get much more hype from the “worldwide leader”

i hate reading the comments on the plain dealer… no matter how unique the story, or how well done it is, the comments section is almost always negative and extreme.

    thank god for WFNY!

I agree that lst year may have gotten more attention from ESPN, but you will have a clash of the top 2 titans of the sport, let alone possible biggest sports athletes in the world, for the title. Last year you had the 3 amigas, but this year it is Bron v. Kobe. It doesn’t get any bigger than that.

The comments in the PD make me laugh.

    I like to laugh.

That piece by Schmitt-Boyer is really good, definitely worth the read.

Jhonny needs to go. I think the Indians are a poor hitting and fielding team because of him.

I don’t understand what the fascination is with this guy. We will be better when he is gone.

i said it once and ill say it again: cleveland.com’s comments are among the worst ever. they’re so troll-laden that i honestly dont know who’s real and who’s not. i just throw my hands up in the air and walk away.

I’d love a pyschological profile of the cleveland.com commenters… a lot of angry, bitter, racist (both directions), shuttered, locking-their-doors-upon-getting-off-the-E 9th-street-ramp, Judge Judy watching,

    anything else?

Mariotti is actually an exceptional writer. it’s just his appearances on ESPN that drove ya nuts.
