LeBron/Kobe Puppets Part 2
May 15, 2009Indians Lose Stunner to the Rays
May 16, 2009While We’re Waiting aims to be the round-up of the recent WFNY-esque information for your morning viewing. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.
Are LeBron’s comments always current? “The MVP said he has never given any indication that he is leaving and is comfortable in Cleveland, and it was widely reported that these comments were made during an interview the night before. A wave of media and Web chatter ensued. This was a newfound revelation, a hot-off-the-press statement of LeBron’s intent to remain with the Cavaliers for the remainder of his career. The problem? The interview with LeBron was actually recorded over a month earlier.” RealGM/Louis Roxin
An important question for all local sports followers: “Why am I a Cleveland Browns fan? I get this question at least five or six times each fall, and I’m never short of explanations for my support of the Browns.” Browns 24.7/Wayne A. Lett
The trade countdown begins: :Cliff Lee is pitching like it’s 2008 again. He’s rarely throwing pitches right over the middle of the plate, and when he is, he is disguising them well. The bigger question now is whether this will be 2008 all over again for the Indians, when they traded three veterans after a depressing start. It worked very well last year, as the Indians’ trades of ace pitcher CC Sabathia plus Casey Blake and Paul Byrd netted them a haul of young prospects and didn’t hurt their performance one iota, either (in fact, Cleveland staged a startling second-half turnaround to make it back to the .500 mark). They are in last place after a similarly depressing start, and the speculation regarding another trade of their ace already has begun.” SportsIllustrated.com/Jon Heyman
Do whatever you can to make it to the playoff games: “Beg, borrow or steal. Scan eBay, Craigslist and StubHub. Bribe a friend, ditch the significant other for a night, lay a guilt trip on a wealthy relative. Dig into the vacation fund, take the bus for a week, pack your lunch. Basically, do anything and everything short of not paying the mortgage to get to a Cavs game.” 64′ and Counting/Vince Grzegorek
Was that a depressing game last night or what? “Pitchers are supposed to be more comfortable pitching with a lead. It lifts their confidence, lessens the pressure and keeps them loose and relatively worry free. These pitchers are not employed by the Indians. For the second consecutive game, Tribe pitchers frittered away a large lead. Thursday night, they got away with their malfeasance. Friday night they did not, as the Luis Vizcaino era began badly.” Akron Beacon Journal/Sheldon Ocker
Who do you want to play in the conference finals? “LeBron James and Mo Williams like to say that they are truly fans of the NBA and they watch games all season on off nights. But any true fan has to have a favorite, so which team will the Cavaliers be pulling for in Sunday’s Celtics-Magic Game 7 that will determine their Eastern Conference Finals opponent? The heart and head may say two different things. The reality is both teams present a different set of challenges and advantages for the Cavs. Here’s a primer heading into Game 7.” Cleveland Plain Dealer/Brian Windhorst

Yesterday I took my son to the zoo. I counted the sports gear I saw, since the zoo gives a pretty good cross-section of local residents. The demographic is probably younger (20-30’s adults) and kids, here’s what I saw:
Cavs 11, Tribe 5, OSU 2, Nascar 2, Browns 2, Steelers 1 FWIW
@ BC – needs less nascar!
@ Bridge – We do that as well when we go to Cedar Point, or if my girlfriend drags me to the mall, I do it to pass the time. Although CP is not really a fair gauge because of the mix of Ohioans and Michiganders (It’s been a nice steady decrease of UM stuff over the last couple years), but at the local malls, Cavs gear is easily out front at a 5:1 ratio.
Why wasn’t wood brought in last night? does anyone have an answer for this?
Alex – Here’s why:
Denny normally I would agree with you and I could leave it at that
But Wedge grinded himself out of the ball park in the 3rd inning so I don’t know who to blame and per the normal I have to find someone
Reading that ABJ article, I have (for the first time in a long time) some respect for Wedge. I think he got to see this team as the rest of us do night after night–from a position of absolute powerlessness–and felt the same crushing frustration as the fans thus far this season. He blasts the bullpen–and Jenny Lew in particular–in much the same, seething way that many of us have recently, and it’s about time. Now let’s hope he can use that to get these guys turned around somehow.
