While We’re Waiting aims to be the round-up of the recent WFNY-esque information for your morning viewing. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.

David Huff; New Indians Starter

Paul Hoynes breaks the news on the Indians roster move for Huff starting today: “The Indians dropped right-hander Masa Kobayashi from the 25-man roster after Saturday’s 4-2 loss to the Rays to make way for left-hander David Huff, who will start Sunday in his big-league debut against the same Tampa Bay team. Kobayashi, who signed a two-year, $6.25 million contract in November of 2007, must give his written consent to go to Class AAA Columbus. After the game he was not sure what his next move would be.” [Cleveland Plain Dealer]

This is what all fans should be thinking about (on a separate note, Pluto also predicted before the season started that Huff would be up by May 15th, too bad he was two days off): “But the real message is this: We haven’t won anything yet. It’s why there was no celebration when the team won the Central Division for the first time this season. One day, they just hung the banner from the ceiling hours before a game — no one even saw it go up. It’s why the reaction to sweeping Detroit and Atlanta was subdued. They expected to wipe out those teams. The goal is to get to The Finals, then win it all. Winning a franchise-record 66 games was fun and important in terms of securing home court, but the playoffs are the real season.” [Terry Pluto/Cleveland Plain Dealer]

The all-NBA teams according to the best basketball stats man in the business: “As one can see, the players are ranked in terms of Wins Produced. And I suspect there will be a few surprises for the casual fans. Unfortunately, as noted, I don’t have time to offer much explanation or thoughts for further discussion.” [Dave Berri/Wages of Wins]

A great article through the Plain Dealer yet again about why the Cavaliers are no longer a one-man show at all: “But until this season, it was King James without a royal court. To be fair, this year’s MVP had a few teammates he could trust on the floor, but not enough. The Cavaliers were talented, but not as skilled as the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers or others. But now, besides Williams, an All-Star acquired in a trade last summer, James is surrounded by a solid supporting cast. A team as tight-knit as a college fraternity, the Cavaliers had the league’s best record in the regular season and are rampaging through the playoffs, with series sweeps of Detroit and Atlanta already under their belts.” [Associated Press]

Well I guess the move from New Jersey to Brooklyn might actually be possible: “The 20,000-seat arena is only one piece of a proposed 22-acre development at the intersection of Flatbush and Atlantic Avenues that would include an office tower and more than 6,000 apartments, including as many as 2,250 for low- and middle-income families.” [Charles V. Bagli/New York Times]

Good thoughts on the whole Kobe-LeBron debate that everyone seems to be talking about: “If you’re going to try and compare these guys with any sort of advanced statistical analysis, LeBron’s just going to blow Kobe away. That’s a given, and I think everyone acknowledges it-Kobe’s PER this year, when he finished 2nd in the MVP race and was probably two wins away from making a real run at the award, was slightly lower than LeBron’s in 2006-07, his worst regular season other than his rookie year. It’s not just PER either, win shares, +/- rating, you name it-for years, pretty much any way people have come up with to use numbers to distill a basketball player’s value, LeBron James has been at or right at the top.” [John Krolik/Cavs the Blog]

@ the AP article–Thank God someone is finally saying there is more to this Cavs team than Lebron! I mean c’mon!—Delonte? Mo? Z? Sideshow Bob? Wallace? This is a solid TEAM all around.

Agreed CJG… watching ESPN, talking heads always bemoan the Cavs saying all they are are role players, not a single standout among them…. Well how about MO being an AllStar & not to mention Z is a former AllStar. Same with Wally & Wallace.

Just because we’re in Cleveland, people think we aren’t as good.

I’d take Mo over Derek Fisher & Delonte over Trevor Ariza… but it’s LA, so they have the good supporting cast, & we just suck.

Eh I still think LA has the better overall supporting cast and everything. But there is no doubt that Cleveland minus LeBron is still a very talented group.
