While We’re Waiting… ‘Pen Blows Another One, Former Brown FB Arrested, and the NBA Lottery
Written By: Scott | Category: Best of the Web | Comments: 16While We’re Waiting aims to be the round-up of the recent WFNY-esque information for your morning viewing. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.
Free Cliff Lee! “If [Cliff] Lee’s not tired and could have pitched the ninth, Wedge was being a sheep. General manager Mark Shapiro bought him an expensive toy, a closer, in the wake of the demoralizing ninth innings of 2008. The Indians might have won the AL Central if the back of their bullpen had been in order. These factors probably went into Wedge’s thinking. When it came to push the ninth-inning button, he did it. He’s no fool. Except, that, he was.” [David Brown/Big Leauge Stew]

Looks like former Browns fullback Corey McIntyre has been keeping himself busy. “A Buffalo Bills player and former South Fork High School star was arrested Thursday, accused of …” [TCPalm.com via OBR Blogs]

Big congratualtions to Joe Posnanski for nabbing the cover story for the upcoming Sports Illustrated magazine. “Not only did I write the cover story for SI this week, but it’s an essay about my beautiful hometown of Cleveland.” [Joe Posnanski/Joe Blog]

And Joe’s reward? “I went to the ballpark on Tuesday night to write about Cleveland’s Victor Martinez and his early run at hitting .400. I absolutely LOVE the chase for .400, even if it is only mid-May. Middle innings, I switched the idea to writing about the little blunders that cost teams games. [...] And I ended up… writing about an amazing ninth inning comeback off of Cleveland’s Kerry Wood.” [Joe Posnanski/Joe Blog]

A big Nelson-like HA-ha: “I love watching the NBA Draft Lottery every year, just for the moment when the representative from team with the best shot ends up getting the 4th pick. The schadenfreude is off the charts. Well this year’s lottery was no different, with Chris Webber and Flip Saunders being the lucky charms. Could there be a worse pick in this year’s draft besides five? I doubt it. Jordan Hill wouldn’t be a bad pick, but I have a feeling the Wiz are going to get stuck with the choice of Hardin, Evans, DeRozan or a trade.” [Awful Announcing]

“The real playoffs begin when your team steps on the Quicken Loans Arena floor Wednesday night against the Orlando Magic. This is the NBA’s Eastern Conference finals, and it probably is a series the Cavs won’t need a broom as they did while sweeping away Detroit and Atlanta in the first two rounds of the playoffs. Orlando is the kind of team the Cavs must beat if they are to make history.” [Terry Pluto/Plain Dealer]

So, if the Cavs sweep the Magic will they still be looked at as “untested” and playing a soft playoff schedule?
Let’s just all pretend the Indians game didn’t occur last night and keep our focus on the Cavs.
Bridge – who are these “Cleveland Indians” of which you speak?
“So, if the Cavs sweep the Magic will they still be looked at as “untested” and playing a soft playoff schedule?”
Exactly, Kevin. People refuse to think that this team is actually good. Obviously, we had an easy schedule that allowed us to win 60+ games this year too.
Who cares? I’m relieved that the Wizards aren’t getting the #1 pick. That would have been scary. Like, vasectomy scary.
@denny:
“Like, vasectomy scary.” get the same response the indians game got last night:
“…speechless”
“Wizards aren’t getting the #1 pick. ”
BJ Mullens, come on down.
@denny:
Why worry? No chance the Wizards would get that pick right. Whomever they took would be a bust.
@Denny:
Puckerfactor 10.
Side note, the word “cursed” is flying around DC like bailout money this morning.
I don’t think it matters if they get the 1st pick, they were cursed the moment they decided to give Arenas a max deal last summer.
A 59 year old? Jeez, Corey. That must have been one smokin granny.
Like, vasectomy scary
Matter of viewpoint I say. No accidental baby making is pretty far from scary.
Snip, snip to my junk is much scarier, imho
My threadjacking skills are still strong. Mission accomplished.
PifML – able to walk down stairs yet? Today I finally turned the corner and started improving. Should run for the first time Friday.
A little – I went to Cedar Point on Monday with the kid and ended up sitting in the Jr Gemini for about 30 rides. My legs feel like jello. Definitely want to do another one, though.
