East wins the lottery, who should the Cavs take?

By now everyone is well aware that the Bulls and the Heat will have the top two picks in the NBA draft following last night’s lottery. There are a couple ways Cavs fans can digest this: a) “Hey, this could help the East finally get some talent and help balance the power!” or b) the more realistic “Oooohhh s@*t!”
No matter who the Bulls take between Derrick Rose or Michael Beasley, the fact is that a team who Vegas had given odds as conference co-favorites entering this season will now have the top pick really worries me as a Cavs fan. Will they select Beasley to take Gooden’s minutes which, as Cavs fans know, would certainly make a double positive? How about taking Rose to work with Ben Gordon and Kirk Heinrich instead?
If you are the Heat, you simply take whoever falls into your lap. Rose would make a great back-court with Dwayne Wade, while Beasley would look outstanding with or without Shawn Marion (player option) up front. It’s looking like a real possibility that both Miami and Chicago won’t be in the lottery next year if both teams stay healthy.
Thank Stern for the “Stepien Rule“, because the Cavs actually have a first round pick this year. Curiously, both ESPN’s Chad Ford and NBADraft.net have the Cavs selecting big men with the 19th pick overall. Ford has them taking Ohio State perimeter playerbig man Kosta Koufos with the pick, while NBADraft.net projects Syracuse’s Donte Green. Either way, I agree that the team must get more athletic up front.
At least we can take solace in the fact that both the Knicks and Nets both crapped out in this year’s lottery and will end up picking 6th and 10th respectively. While this won’t be a blow to their LeBron recruiting campaigns, every bit helps our collective psyche until 2010 right?
So who would you like to see the Cavaliers take? A guard? A forward? I could be on board with the Donte Green pick though I am intrigued by Brandon Rush of Kansas.

Rumor is the Heat are looking to trade the pick if Chicago takes Rose. Also, lucky for us Cavs fans that the Bulls will still have Larry Hughes and he will still be taking at least 20 shots a game at a 30% clip.
I would like the Cavs to go big as well. Our PFs and C are getting old or just aren’t that skilled
I want Chris Douglas Roberts. He can create his own shot, play the 2 or 3, and lock down someone on d. He reminds me of a more athletic slightly smaller Tayshaun Prince.
I think the most exciting thing is that both of these mock drafts have the Bucks drafting Eric Gordon therefore freeing up a possible Michael Redd trade. If that happens then Danny Ferry better get on the ball and MAKE that trade happen!!!!!
I too am intrigued by Rush. Douglas-Roberts isn’t bad either. Plus, there are about three big men that could still be there at the end of the round including Hibbert and the other Lopez…
No, MacNip, not Mario… Sorry.
I like Rush or Bill Walker of K-State, but I can see Danny taking Kosta to replace Z, since he has two years tops left.
The best part about Kosta is that he’s 19… So much room for growth. Adding him to this team would make him one of maybe three guys that still haven’t peaked to this point…
God NO, not Koufas. We don’t need another semi athletic, soft 7′0 that can’t play with his back to the basket.
i agree, i am against Koufas. I think agility is the key for us, and we need another guy who can run with LeBron. I say take Douglas-Roberts or Rush. No big men. I disagree with that we need a big man. I say take 1 of the 2 or aim for a foreign guard. Maybe we get lucky and strike the next Ginobili lottery =]
The cavs should really consider Douglas-Roberts he creates his own shot and is a great slaser and was the glue that held memphis together. the cavs need someone to take oressure off lebron and def. koufas couldnt do that we sont need potential players we need to win now while Lebron is wearing wine and gold. Go after elton brand in free agency to give great lowpost scoring and defense then our front line would be insane, varajeo is expendable as is sasha and wally if we can somehow make cap room for brand. ferry good luck if u blow this u need to be gone…
Funny you say Rush, I was thinking about him too, or the Batum kid from France, but he may be to young for what we need. In the SI mocks from one of their writers (can’t remember which one) they have the Cavs taking Rush.
I wouldn’t mind to see them package the 2st rounder, one of the 2nd rounders we have and a big (Anderson) and if we need add an expiring contract to see if they could get the Raptors pick and Calderon.
We HAVE to get a big man in the first round. Outside of Varejao our big men are old and will not be very effective for very long. If Joe Alexander is available, we have to get him.
In the 2nd round, DJ White from Indiana could be a steal. He can rebound and shoot, 2 things this team needs their big men to do. He reminds me of Joe Smith. His upside isn’t that great (he will never be a star) but I think by his 2nd year he would be our first big man off the bench
