Mo Clarrett Wants to Give Football Another Shot

clarett_apFormer Ohio State Running Back Maurice Clarrett produced a fresh new blog post this past weekend. It’s quick to the point, one (albeit long) paragraph.  And it has a nice little REO Speedwagon vibe to it.

I can’t hold these feelings in anymore. I want to play football again. I have a deep desire to play. I love the game. I have so much penitentiary aggression pinned up inside of me. I want to hit someone. I want to run the ball. I want to tackle someone. I want to play. I am going to play somewhere. I cannot accept how things ended. I won’t accept how they ended.

Clarrett claims that he is in superb shape – 220 lbs., feeling like an 18-year old. The down side is that he’s comparing himself to a few of the guys that he’s competing against in prison. He also called himself “inspirational,” which can likely be debated ad nauseum.

He should be released from prison before the 2010 season, so a comeback isn’t exactly out of the question.  But he has also been away from the game for about four years – not exactly a short period of time in the NFL.   Someone may give him a tryout, but I do not think we’ll be seeing Clarrett playing for an NFL team any time soon.

Luckily for Mo, Cincinnati always has the welcome mat out for criminals.

I think u could see him in canadian football or arena if they return. If not for his football abilities than for the potential to draw crowds.

He plays the right position for a come back. The running back position is made for pure athleticism and vision. While I agree he is a long shot, maybe he can crop up third string somewhere. That still makes 300K per season.

I have so much penitentiary aggression pinned up inside of me.

    Want… to make… sooooo many… non-family-friendly…. jokes……

How about this: will the NFL instill a new 15-yard “personal foul: shivving” in honor of Mo?

It’s too bad for Clarrett that NFL Europe is gone on the Arena Football League is falling apart. It’ll be way too tough for him to crack an NFL roster and the options for minor league football seems to be drying up.

There is a the new UFL football league starting this year, maybe they will give him a shot. As for the NFL I dobt very much that anyone will be willing after the poor showing in Denvers training camp a few years back.

The new league will give lots of borderline NFL talented players a chance to play the game.

Canada won’t be an option. First he’ll be suspended by NFL for behavior (i.e. prison) in the new personal behavior policy. CFL won’t take players suspended now by the NFL – they got sick of the drama with Ricky Williams.

I like Mo. It sounds like his attitude has improved. But I don’ think this will go well.

If he played arena ball, Grey Goose could be one of the team sponsors, that could be appealing to someone like ……um……uh…..Bernie Kosar.

[...] of WFNY says: 101 to 96. Scott also says that “Clarett wants to give football another shot”. And I say let’s hope not and let’s hope the young man can stay out of trouble for a [...]
