Coco Crisp Gets Dirty

Written By:  Scott   |  Category:  Cleveland Indians   |  Comments:   6

In my talks with Terry Pluto, a guy that he seems to miss is Coco Crisp. Obviously, Jason Michaels didn’t exactly pan out as planned, so you can see why. However, the video below is one of the dirtier plays I have seen in baseball for quite some time – okay, maybe like a week or so, but still – and not exactly something you would expect out of the guy.

Check it out for yourself:

You hate to toss around the term “thug,” but that was obviously a goon-like move on his part. Even if the score were closer, it’s a bit on the dirty side. And while Pete Rose approves, the Devil Rays – obviously – do not. As The Sporting Blog mentions, tonight’s game could get interesting.

(Big thanks to Chris at TSB for the clip)

What a dumb play for Coco. Not only was it a dumb play… to get up and argue the point made it a dumb play and made you look stupid. How can you defend yourself after that. I didnt see the play live, but I didnt see any Red Sox jumping to Coco’s defense in the clip.
    Dumb.

To be fair earlier in the game Jason Bartlett blocked the bag on a steal by Coco and Coco jammed his finger into Barlett’s knee. Apparently Coco didn’t appreciate the way he did it and they had words in which Coco said something along the lines that he was coming in hard next time, which he did, but it just so happened the Iwamura was covering that time. They’re also playing for first place. That is a totally legal play, dirty yes, but it’s an aggressive Baseball play. Sutcliffe is a moron and should just keep his mouth shut. You can see that Coco was arguing with Maddon about the steal earlier in the game.

I think the announcers overreacted on this one. He definitely had no right to be arguing that it was clean, but he didn’t slide with his spikes up or barrel into the guy. I would give him a break on the late slide, not the ensuing argument.
