While We’re Waiting… More Shaq Rumors, Derek Anderson Day, and Mel Hall’s Found Guilty
While We’re Waiting aims to be the round-up of the recent WFNY-esque information for your morning viewing. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.
Queue up the conspiracy theorists; perhaps located in the Boston and Orlando areas: “Shaquille O’Neal might not bring a championship to Cleveland, but it would be pure gold for ABC when it opens its television coverage next season with the Christmas Day Game between the defending champion Lakers and ready-to-be champion Cavaliers.
That’s one you can count on. The Orlando Magic, who disrupted that anticipated NBA Finals matchup this season, would be dropped like yesterday’s news. As if the Kobe Bryant-LeBron James one-on-one wasn’t good enough on its own, ABC would get the Kobe vs. Shaq grudge match to spice it up another three notches.
It’s why the NBA should be clearing the path for the Shaq-to-Cleveland trade, making one of the league’s most charismatic players relevant once again.” [Tim Potvak/NBA FanHouse]

On ‘Sheed versus Shaq: “I’ll take O’Neal. He’s a superior low-post defender. He has one year left on a contract, so there is motivation to prove he can still play. Last season, he appeared in 75 games, the most in nine years. He averaged 17.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and even shot nearly 60 percent from the foul line. He played hard for a team that missed the playoffs.” [Terry Pluto/Plain Dealer]

Former Tribe outfielder Mel Hall, now 48-years of age, could be looking at some time behind bars after yesterday’s conviction of sexual assault. [AP via Akron Beacon-Journal]

Is Ray Small in trouble again? “This season is a money year for Small. If he steps up and delivers in the classroom and on the field, he can make himself some coin. If not, he’ll join the list of names including D’Andrea, Lydell Ross, Alex Boone and others that have fallen short of expectations for one reason or another.” [Jason/Eleven Warriors]

I can’t explain how excited I was at the trade deadline about the prospect of acquiring Shaq. I was really bummed when it didn’t happen. As such, I’m still excited about the idea.
Look at it this way – Shaq has always brough success to the young prodigy on his team (see Bryant, Kobe and Wade, Dwayne). Even at his advanced age, he could start and Z could come off the bench, as well as possibly help Hickson grow as a player. It would certainly help to give them an answer for Howard, as well as give them an established presence down low.
Plus, if we only have to give up Wallace and Pavlovich, I think its worth the risk.

Shaq for Wallace and Pavlovich would easily be worth the risk, but not right now. Save those pieces and see who else might be available.
I.E. this is good, but I think we could do better.
That being said I would love to see Shaq on the Cavs.

Actually, I think it should be.
Bosh > Smith > Jamison > Shaq.
Smith only gets ahead of Jamison because he’s ten years younger.
