Keeping An Eye On Shaq
July 14, 2009Clip Show: Keeping an Eye on the Tribe’s AAA Squad – 7/14/09
July 14, 2009During various portions of the pre-draft hand-wringing that we in Browns town participate in, there were many cries for Rey Maualuga to be selected. In the end his tumble down the draft board occurred and the Browns looked in many other directions. Eventually, though, they did draft a linebacker from USC. One Kaluka Maiava whom played alongside Rey Maualuga, Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews Jr. for Pete Carroll. And now the Browns have inked the Hawaiian boar hunter to his rookie contract. According to our good friends at The OBR.
The OBR’s John Taylor is reporting that the Cleveland Browns and OLB Kaluka Maiava have to agreed a four-year deal. The four-year deal is believed to be worth just under $2.5 million, and was agreed to yesterday. Maiava would be the second Browns draft pick to sign, following a reported contract agreement with sixth-round pick RB James Davis late last week.
And so now we watch and wait. As I said yesterday in the Browns draft article, we will have plenty of opportunity to rate this new regime as a drafting organization. And if they turn out to be as smart as they hope to be, Maiava will end up being better than his draft slot and potentially even outplay his former teammates from USC. Not that I am predicting it or anything. Still, these are the hopes that we all have for late round draft picks. These are the picks that, when they work out, tend to make you forget about the other types of busts that occasionally occur.
Now let’s get Alex Mack, Brian Robiske, and Mohamed Massaquoi signed and ready for camp. Seventeen days until the players report to Berea.

Browns Super Bowl blue print.
Step 1) Sign Kaluka Maiava
This guy is the next Rey Louis
Perfect picture for a photoshopped boar. Too bad I’m at work
You guys should put together a Depth Chart by pay. I have no idea what all our LBs make, it would be interesting to see if this was up there.
I would settle for the next Dwayne “The Rock Johnson”
I’ve watched him played the last 4 years especially last year as a starter. I personally believe that he will work out better than the Cushing, Maualuga & Matthews.
his name sounds like what noises come from my car on cold mornings.
ESPN is reporting that we’ve also signed Don Carey to a 4 year contract

Maiava had to clean up when Maualuga played out of position or was flat on his back.
He’s 5’11” and 220 pounds, and folks here claim he’ll be better than Mauluga, Cushing, & Mathews. Give me a freakin break…….get with it.
Too small for an NFL linebacker…….and please don’t site the few exceptions as the norm. Too small, too light………except for Mangini.
Easy Isis… only one person said that. I am guessing comment #1 was tongue in cheek. I don’t actually predict it in the article. At some point in the future it would be nice if the Browns found a pleasant surprise late in the draft. I guess Leigh Bodden was a pleasant surprise as an undrafted free agent.
I dont know where, but I read back during the draft that he was a round 2 talent that fell because of an injury I believe. Im not saying he will do great, but you also can’t write a guy off for his physical stature.
[…] Francis and James Davis. According to the OBR, all three signed 4 year contracts. With the earlier signing of Maiava, that makes 4 draft picks left to sign deals. Of course, they are Cleveland’s top picks- […]
