The Browns cut Shaun Smith without really disclosing all the reasons that everyone was guessing. The Browns ultimately stuck to their statement that they “needed a roster spot.” Shortly thereafter they went out and signed Fred Weary to add depth to the offensive line. No sooner did the Browns cut Smith (Saturday afternoon) than Detroit came calling for Smith to take a physical (Monday.) It seems kind of crazy that Detroit, Cleveland, defensive linemen and attitude problems have become so inextricably linked now between Shaun Rogers and Shaun Smith. Even still, you have to think the Browns ended up with the better end of this latest situation just like they did last year between Rogers and the departed Leigh Bodden.
As for Fred Weary, the Browns added him after being tight-lipped with regard to Rex Hadnot’s injury. The Browns still haven’t spoken about Hadnot other than to say that he isn’t currently practicing. (Duh.) Weary is another big body for the re-shaped offensive line. He has started in 43 out of his 63 NFL games. As has been reported at the OBR, the 300+ pound Weary was a four year player for Tennessee and was drafted in the third round by the Texans.
What is interesting is that with Hadnot, the Browns had a little extra stability across multiple line positions including guard and center. Now, with Weary filling in, the Browns don’t have any extra people beyond Fraley and Alex Mack who can play center, at least as far as I know. And unless our buddy Ryan Pontbriand puts on another 50 pounds from his reported 255, I am guessing he won’t be playing anything but 4th downs anytime soon.

Great move to cut the absurdly out of shape fat, diarrea mouthed, non-athletic, non-agile, non-tackling, non-gap eating, always garbage eating, cancerous waste of a roster spot.
Good job Browns.
well um yeah that pretty much sums it up.
@1 – Haha nicely said.
I think Isis just needs a hug.
Whatever helps the team, I’m all for.
