Braylon Edwards Gets “The Business” on Twitter

braylon-edwards-twitterWith the 2009 football season officially one preseason game old, Braylon Edwards already has his first dropped pass.  Naturally, this one was a pass that would have netted six points and capped off a solid two-minute drill.

Edwards has recently joined a few teammates in their recent Twitter escapades, perhaps hoping to join the ranks of popular NFL users like Chad Ochocinco.  But instead of discussing current events and actually replying back to fans, Edwards tends to simply tweet whatever he is doing.

“Had a fresh start in practice…”

“Just landed about 10 minutes ago…”

” There’s nothing on this TV…”

“I’m dedicated 2 da game.”

Not the most exciting of users, but he has had his moments.  But following the game, Edwards found out that Twitter is a tw0-way street.

The following tweets sent directly to Edwards:

“Oops, dropped another one” (@danhaight)

“Nice catch…not” (@squeen_bean)

“Just watched the game…Another big drop.  Stop wthe excuses.  Take your craft more seriously.  U are embarrassing yourself.” (@makuret)

“When will this nonsense end – U are a highly paid NFL receiver, you should be able to catch a perfectly thrown ball in the endzone.” (@Masternumber33)

There were also countless thoughts regarding Edwards’ game, though not sent directly to No. 17.

“Braylon Edwards looked awesome last night. Back to another year of dropping passes” (@jpwatcher)

“I heard the Browns and Braylon picked up…er I mean dropped right where they left off.” (@OGJoesnake)

“BraylonEdwards how U live with yourself takin a paycheck for what U do? Is there a worse receiver in NFL?” (@RickSheriden)

“2 things I noticed from the Browns game: 1) Clearly Quinn is going to be the starter. 2) Braylon Edwards shows no effort and doesn’t care.” (@JeffDLowe)

Needless to say, Edwards has not posted on his Twitter page since about 12p EST on Saturday.  There’s no knowing whether or not Edwards even knows how to see replies that have been thrown in his direction.  I’d personally be surprised if Edwards addresses any fans via the Twitter medium – like his Bengals counterpart – but stranger things have happened.

Perhaps, posting “I’m dedicated 2 da game” and then showing little effort in breaking up an interception isn’t the best sequence of events.

Given that, how long until Mangini puts the kibosh on his team tweeting?  Mangini is a guy that just learned how to use Skype, so there’s a solid chance he doesn’t find out about this Twitscape until 2011.  However, Edwards has already had to remove posts from his feed.  His teammate Josh Cribbs has posted photos of the Green Bay locker room.  Sure, nothing too offensive – yet.  But it wouldn’t shock me if the Browns soon join the ranks of other teams that are banned from using the medium.

    “Oops, dropped another one…”

Classic! Unfortunately, self-deprecating humor won’t make me feel better about these.

I’m liking the “Wolverine” nickname in reference to Braylon’s scissor-hands. Would that then make Shaun Rodgers Colossus? Or Mangini? DA is probably in the running for Cyclops.

Yeah, no evidence on his feed that shows him replying to people or anything…

Ah…he does shoot the S with his teammates. Still waiting for the tweets to fans, however.

  • 19. August 17, 2009

Braylon doesn’t care about dropping passes, cuz ultimately, he still gets paid. thats what he cares about. Man-gina better put in someone who puts forth some effort, and i would be extremely content with Massaqoi, Robiskie, and Cribbs being our top 3 recievers. Edwards, you are a joke man.

The truth is, how many careers can a person suck at and still get paid…weatherman and wide reciever. It seems the more money people make, the lousier they are at there job. For every pass that Braylon drops, he should be forced to give some American blue collar guy or girl $25,000.00!!! Maybe then he’d realize what its like to EARN a living.
