Trevor Crowe to Buff-a-lo

Hey, is that a bunt?

Though worrying many of fans early on, Trevor Crowe’s red-hot turnaround has earned him a promotion to Triple-A Buffalo.  Per Indians Media Relations:

OF TREVOR CROWE was promoted to AAA Buffalo following Akron’s 3-1 victory over Altoona today… Crowe who was 2-4 with a double in today’s win, hit .323 (64-198) w/ 16 doubles, 4 triples, 4 home runs and 28RBI in 49 games at AA Akron… He also scored 45 runs and stole 13 bases while posting an on base percentage of .404 (.888 OPS).

You read that right: on on-base percentage of .404.  As in, higher than every regular-playing Tribe member.  Obviously, this will regress a bit at the next level, but the 25-year old will adjust.

I assume that will be good enough to bump Brad Snyder from the CF slot.  Whether the club decides to move Jorge Velandia down the lineup from his current lead-off spot remains to be seen.  Veteran Tony Graffanino is doing very well in the two-hole, so we’ll see.  For some info on Crowe, check out Tony Lastoria’s breakdown over at Indians Top Prospects.

I just did a bit of research on him…looks like he can play all outfield positions. There should now be zero doubt that we will not be picking up a corner outfielder via free agency.

I also found that his nickname is The Hearty Crowe.

an OBP of .404 in AA doesn’t translate into viable production at the major league level. It does give hope, but whether or not he can hit in AAA has yet to be seen.

The bright side is, as said by Scott, he’s only 25.

    For reference purposes:

Juan Pierre, a solid (though singles and speed-only) leadoff hitter has a career OBP of .347. In AA-Carolina, his OBP was .376.

Johnny Damon (career .354) was .399 in A+ and .434 in AA

Kenny Lofton (career .372) was .407 in A+ and .367 in AAA
