Cavaliers News and Notes: Commemorative XL Patch, Daniel Gibson’s New Head Design

It has been quite the week for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and things are just getting started.  Obviously, there was Media Day that took place one week ago today.  We had player quotes, power outages, and – if we were to judge by the images that came out of the entire afternoon – some fun and games.

First thing that one may notice from the image above may be the XL patches that are featured on the right chest portion of the Cavalier jerseys.  The patch was briefly referenced in last Sunday’s Plain Dealer, and signifies the 40 years of the Cavs’ existence as a franchise.  Plus, everyone loves patches right?  For a digital image of the actual patch, we have you covered.

And the other things you may take away from the picture above?  One, the electric blue jerseys will be in full effect once again – most likely on LeBron James bobblehead night Wednesday, December 2nd.  Shaquille O’Neal bobblehead night is shortly thereafter as the Cavs take on the Nets on December 15th.  For good measure, Mo Williams’ get his bobble on January 6th.

We had a few rock star commenters give their feedback of the team’s Wine and Gold scrimmage that was held in Akron.  Brian Windhorst followed up with his thoughts that echoed what we had heard: JJ Hickson looked great, Jamario Moon is a freak athlete, LeBron played in sweatpants, Danny Green was impressive, and Shaquille O’Neal is a giant.  But we also had some questions as to what exactly is shaved into the side of Danny “Boobie” Gibson’s head.  The answer?

Perhaps a bit anticlamactic, but he definitely went bigger than years past.  We don’t have the updated version just yet, but if you dig this, I recommend the WFNY homage.  Kid sure looks deep in thought though, no?

I’d imagine it was pretty hard for Gibson to keep such a serious look in the media picture above given all of the antics that were going on elsewhere on set.

Check out the gallary below.  It was pretty obvious that LeBron and Shaq playing around was a goal for the Getty Images guys.  It only gets that much better when you add Mo Williams to the mix.

First preseason game is tomorrow as the Cavs play host to the Charlotte Bobcats.  Three weeks until the opening night…

Boobie is thinking about how he’s going to get any minutes with Parker, Moon and potentially Green on the roster. No wonder he ain’t playin’ around for the camera.

I really like that patch-it’s pays homage to the history of the franchise. Some of us remember all of it…………very well done insignia. I can see all kinds of shirts/sweatshirts…………

Shaq in the low post beginning tomorrow at the Q……….what a space-eating monster.

Come on Isis, help a brotha’ out. I’m still anxiously waiting with bated breath…

Second round picks are expected to be IMPACT players in year one in the NFL, particularly those picked at the top of the second round. This is true more so for teams on the rebound, I’m sure we can all agree. Already thoughout the 2009 season second round draft picks start and contribute in significant numbers.

That said, let’s track week to week the progress of Mangini’s (Kokinis’s) second round picks, shall we? :

Game #1 vs. Vikings/Second Round Browns Picks:

    Brian Robiski: Grade: DNP
Mohamed Masaquoi: Grade: 1 catch/18 yards
    David Vekune Grade: DNP

    Game #2 vs. Broncos:

Brian Robiskie: Grade: INACTIVE (inexcusible, shades of Travis Wilson?)
    Mohamed Masaquoi: Grade: 0 catches
    David Vekune: Grade: DNP

    Game #3 vs. Ravens:

Brian Robiskie: Grade: INACTIVE (inexcusable-journeymen waiver FA’s ahead of this investment?).
Mohamed Massaquoi: Grade: 1 catch/13 yards
    David Vekune: Grade: DNP

    Game #4 vs. Bengals:
    ???????

Brian Robiskie: Grade: DNP (Dressed, in on one kickoff coverage play).
Mohamed Massaquoi: Grade: 8 catches/148 yards. A+ performance.
Tremendous effort, stretched the field, showed good
hands, and nice athleticism. Ran like a racehorse.
    David Veikune: Grade: DNP
Note: Veikune was drafted as a conversion prospect for
OLB, had recently been moved to ILB. ILB’s are usually mid
round picks. Browns sold him as an OLB edge rusher.?????

That was supposed to be an image of a broken record, but I guess blank space works too.

What’s worst hearing Isis make the same comments over and over(although he usually has a point) or people continually trying to take shots at him because it seems like the “in” thing to do (myself included)? I was ignorant. Isis you’re completely entitled to have an opinion and (and I think this site was created to welcome a sharing of Cleveland opinion by people who love Cleveland) I welcome your opinion. Maybe finding a different ways to get it across would be more effective, but I def see merit in hearing others’ views; even when they are different than mine. Everyone else, welcome to America. Where everyone is allowed to express his or her own opinion, and if it diverges from yours, then you don’t listen, just skip over it. (see Consitution, U.S.)

Hell yes dr. cleveland! Somebody get this guy a soapbox and truck him off to DC!

ummmmm this was a story about the Cavs…why were the browns brought up? The Cavs give us the opportunity to forget about that miserable team. Lets keep it that way.
