October 6, 2009Cavs Win in Shaq’s Preseason Debut
October 7, 2009My, that escalated quickly.
Adam Schefter has just reported on ESPN’s Mike and Mike in the Morningthat Braylon Edwards has been traded to the New York Jets for undisclosed compensation. You can bet that it wasn’t the “first- and third-round pick” minimum that the Browns were looking for just a few months back.
Mark Sanchez and Braylon are paired together after all. More as it develops.
(Update 8:30AM:Fox’s Jay Glazer reports that the Browns will receive two draft picks, WR Chansi Stucky and LB Jason Trusnick. Add two more to the total of ex-Jets who are now Browns. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Edwards was in fact the man behind many of the complaints and grievances that hit the news over the last few weeks.)
(Update 8:50AM:SI’s Peter King reports that neither pick is “higher than a third-rounder.” Schefter reports them as a third- and fifth-round selections. Meanwhile, the rest of the world (New York talk radio) jumped all over the LeBron-New York dichotomy.)
(Update 10:55AM: Schefter now reports that the third-round selection is conditional and could be worth a second-rounder if Edwards catches a certain number of passes – a number which has not been confirmed, but is believed to be high. Even for a receiver that actually catches passes on the regular.)

#100,
Your final sentence may be true, but having Braylon around would not have changed that at all. The two players and the 2 picks may change that.
Is anyone else picturing LeBron in a dark room quietly making a phone call to someone very high up in the Browns organization telling them to make the trade?
DP-that’s irrelevant and weak-it’s still the bottom of the Jet’s roster however you attempt to spin it. Oh, okay-your crap is better than my crap-sure, great rationale.
Robiskie better be playing, I don’t want to hear any excuses. Enough will all of the excuses.
Yeah! Robiskie better play! Or else I might go to a blog and post comments! Book it!
But seriously, this is a great trade, no matter how well Braylon performs with the Jets. How long until he shoots himself at a nightclub?
Surprise no one has commented on Profootballtalk saying from “sources” that DA is glad Braylon is gone. I wonder if he was a problem in the huddle?
From my friend Rob who is the arts editor at The Village Voice:
“hopefully braylon edwards moves from punching lebron’s friend to just straight-up punching eddy curry.”

My point isn’t that it’s crap for crap. It improves our roster and our locker room. I don’t disagree that they might have gotten more in the off-season; I just don’t think this is a horrible trade because I think Stuckey will produce at least the same as Edwards for much less money and far less whining.
@ Brad in Atl: It’s because PFT is a joke and that dude just spews throw up from his mouth.
@105 – No way Braylon could be a problem in the huddle. He doesn’t seem like the type of guy who would complain about the ball not going his way. (should have been all CAPS)
Isis, the EXCUSES I’m getting tired of are why we allow you to keep pissing in everyone’s cheerios excuses. Those are getting old.
@ Rick – Cheerio, pip pip, gov’na! Ello!!!
@Macnip
I also agree that Braylon couldn’t have been a problem in the huddle. From the routes he was running I find it hard to believe he was even paying attention, much less causing trouble.
RICK, IT’S JUST LIKE A MANGINI KOOL-AID DRINKER TO WANT TO SILENCE DISSENT! VIVA LA REVOLUTION!!

I think this was a good deal. I mean, Randy Moss was only good for a 4th rounder, and he has WAY more talent than Edwards does. So, in the scheme of things, we got a lot for someone who has never really played consistently well.
Paul Dade for Mike Hargrove.
Eddie Taubensee for Kenny Lofton.
Felix Fermin and cash for Omar Vizquel.
Bartolo for Sizemore, Lee and Phillips.
A 3rd rounder and a middling db for Rogers.
The Peacock for two warm bodies and two dc’s.
Such a deal.
I tried to skim most of the posts…has anyone pointed out the obvious?
Braylon punched Bron’s boy to get shipped off. Can this hold up as a defense in court? “I hated Cleveland so much I had to punch someone; I had to get out of there!”

TBS!
Could you write that again….my head is still spinning!
@110 – I like the sarcasm slow play. Nicely done.
The NYG were offering 2nd, 5th and either Manningham or Hixon. The Browns wanted Steve Smith, but he was not someone the G-men were gonna give up. It still probably wouldve been better then what we have now, but I’m willing to bet this was the best deal on the table for the browns. Ill take it. Lets see if Robo can get to the field now.
I heard Braylon’s still stuck in Cleveland….he couldn’t catch a flight.
Hurrumph!
I am soooo happy about this. It is pure bias, but after he made the comments last year about not caring about us, I wished they would have cut him, I never wanted to see him in a Browns jersey again. I realize its a business, so this wasn’t going to happen, but if we got (2) draft picks and a WR who can get us some time..I am all for it. See ya BE!!!
