Delonte West Returns to Cavaliers Practice

delonte_west tattoosAfter taking a short leave of absence from the team, Cavs guard – and glue-guy – Delonte West has returned to the team practice facility.  Brian Windhorst and the ABJ’s George Thomas tweeted yesterday afternoon about West’s attendance.

Thomas quickly followed up with what the future may hold for West and the Cavaliers.

A source with knowledge of West’s situation told me that the team is in no hurry to get him back on the court. Anxious fans sniffing the possibility of a championship might consider this disruptive to those aspirations, but personally, I think the team is handling this properly.

West and his father Dmitri both told me that Delonte is at his best when he’s on the court. He can forget his problems. As therapeutic as it may be for him, it’s better for both parties to take their time getting him back to form.

Perhaps fittingly, West’s personality in NBA2K10 is listed as “unpredictable.” And if we have learned anything over the last month or so, West is definitely that.  Thankfully, Coach Brown continues to express his lack of concern in regard to West being able to catch up with the rest of the team.

It is great news that West has the support of his team and family at this time.  Also, he could not have a fan base behind him any more than they are right now.   One can bet that West will receive quite an ovation from fans when he takes the court for the first time this season.  When that will happen, however, remains up in the air.

    This is great news, and the Cavs to be sure will handle this appropriately in moving Delonte along towards progression personally and professionally. Scott, yes indeed D will recieve a tremendous ovation and support from the fans.

    I agree Isis. I’m sure that the Cavs, having gone through much of the same last year with Delonte, are more prepared this year to help him through this.

    I find myself feeling that everything will be okay with this kid once the season kicks into gear.

    As long as JJ doesn’t forget the donuts I’m sure he’ll be fine.. I wonder if he puts hot sauce on his Krispe Kremes too?

    Chris et all, I’ve been thinking the same. Delonte will be fine once the season starts. Hopefully he’s able to do more than just put aside his demons and actually make progress on getting rid of those demons, or else I’m afraid of what he could get into next off-season.

    Hopefully many of the fans will stop freaking out now that he is back. He’s going to practice with the guys an that’s all he really needs at this point in his career. The only new addition is Shaq and I’m sure Shaq will make Delonte’s game easier. He can run of screens, pick and pop, stand out by the 3 point line for the open shot, and funnel ball handlers into Shaq in the paint.

    LET’S GO CAVS!!!

    Anyone else starting to feel unsettled by Mo Williams being held out so much?

    Kanye, I’m a let you finish in a second but… (sorry, couldn’t help it)

    Welcome back, Delonte!

    As for Mo, I think he’ll be fine… but I’m not super familiar with how much he’s being “held out”. Can you elaborate?

    Just hope the young man gets well, regardless of how it affects the team. He’s dealing with serious real life issues. The games are, well, just games.

    Mo’s being held out of a lot of preseason games b/c of a mildly pulled groin. I’m not too worried, they’ve basically said that if it was the regular season he would have played, but since it’s preseason they’re just resting him so he can start the season 100%, and I don’t doubt that’s true.

    @10 – thanks EZ!
    @9 – I couldn’t agree more with ya, Harv.
