NFL Trade Rumors: Is Kamerion Wimbley Next?

kamerion wimbleyWhile the rumors surrounding Brady Quinn and Joshua Cribbs appear to be subsiding, we can now add another name to the mill in regard to a potential trade scenario: Kamerion Wimbley.

Recapping this past weekend of football, Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post comes through with the following:

Tuesday is the trading deadline, but I’m not optimistic there will be many deals. The Browns can’t trade Josh Cribbs (I hear they won’t), but will try to move outside backer/defensive end Kamerion Wimbley, who missed Sunday’s game against the Steelers with the flu.

Could yet another first-round draft pick be traded away?  It may just be me, but I thought that Wimbley was playing relatively well aside from the whole flu issue.  Why try to move the guy?

He has as many sacks through five games as he did all of last season.  He has recorded 32 total tackles, on pace to destroy the career-high that he set last season.  And we have not heard to much in terms of acting as a malcontent off of the field.  Then again, there is a lot that goes on behind closed doors that we just don’t hear about until players are moved.

Alas, keep an eye on this development.

Wasn’t Lombardi the guy who started the bogus rumor that Jamal Lewis would be cut at the end of training camp? Sounds like he’s just throwing stuff at the wall to see if anything sticks.

Yeah, this doesn’t make sense to me. The guy looks like a real player this year. That said, I think his rookie deal is almost done and Mangini might want to cash in for picks.

This just in, National Football Post involved in trade discussions with the Cleveland Plain Dealer regarding Mike Lombardi. Rumors surrounding the trade have the deal as Lombardi to the PD for a Dave and Busters mug and a ticket to the Rock Hall of Fame, with a possible free bag of peanuts upon entry stipulation.

He didn’t punch one of LeBron’s friends did he?!

I once read that the first rule of Internet reporting is “It’s better to be first than to be right”.

Why? Because he’s a control freak and will sacrifice team for his own personal agenda. Observe.

Among the circle of inexperienced coaches hired by Mangini in order to work under his controlling paranoia system, there is one George McDonald. Anyone know who he is and what he does?

What about his wingspan! I remember Mel Kiper told me he had a great wingspan. How can you trade a guy with that wingspan!

Thinking like that is how you end up with Darko Milicic instead of Carmelo Anthony, Bosh and Wade.

I heard FoxNews is impressed with Lombardi’s reporting skills.

It would be foolish to trade Wimbley. He’s one of the few players on our defense worth a damn.

And he’s clearly responded to Rob Ryan’s system by having his best season thus far since his rookie year. He finally looks comfortable again.

    Wide receivers coach, Isis.

    @9

Doc, I believe Biff was being sarcastic.

BTW, I heard that Roethlisberger is going to retire after this year.

@12 – I think Isis’s point (and it’s a good one) is that it doesn’t look like this guy is doing his job when the players he is coaching have worse hands than the girls that play on my touch football team.

Throwing a pass 100 mph when the guy is 4 yards past the line of scrimmage isnt a great way to get it done either, Boom.

That certainly does not excuse the easy ones they dropped though.

@14 – Where can I play touch football with girls?

Kam shouldn’t be traded but I can see how Mangini would think he might be able to get a 1st round pick with his improved play and talking him up in the media. But, it shouldn’t happen.

Steve Smith seems to be available from the Panthers. I wonder if we could land him, he’d be a great addition to a weak WR core.

The pass that Stuckey dropped from DA was way outside and it would’ve taken a great 1 handed catch of a ball that was rocketed. Twice MoMass was wide open and DA couldn’t hit him in the chest like a good QB would’ve, MoMass had to drop to his knees and try to pick it off the ground.

Do the Jets still have picks left to trade? Any updates on the Roethlisberger retirement party yet?

If we are repeatedly reminded by the national media on how much the Browns suck… then why would so many teams want our players ??

I’m sick of the rumors already.
