Cavs Channel Their Inner Mark Price

Brad Daugherty ThrowbackThe Cleveland Cavaliers are no strangers to rolling out merchandise for the masses.  While Nike produces countless colorways of the LeBron James shoe line, the Cavs provide fans with a slew of apparel to don on any given night; the biggest item of which comes via the jersey.

Last season, the Cavs not only wore their standard versions of wine, blue or white, but they also wore “Hardwood Classics” wine/gold as well as a “Cav Fanatic” royal blue version that still confuses most fans.  This year’s Fanatic jersey was mentioned a few weeks ago.  But thanks to Paul Lukas (via V to the G) we see that this year’s Hardwood Classic may be one of the best jerseys to ever feature the Cavs name on the front.

The 1988-89 jersey, pictured to the right, was the one worn by Ron Harper, Mark Price and Brad Daugherty – all three of which were only in their second year in the league.  This Lenny Wilkens-led team went 57-25 and finished second in the Central.  Based on the handy old Pythagorean W-L, this team should have actually went 60-22, which would have been tops in the league.

Daugherty and Price both finished the season with 18.9 points per game with Harper right behind with 18.6.  The Cavaliers have not had a team with three different 18-point scorers since.

Embrace it, people.

By far my favorite Cavs jersey ever.

That is a sweet, sweet jersey. It’s about time they rolled these out.

I echo Jay’s sentiment. This was the Cavs jersey that I grew up with. I wish they had a Mark Price jersey in the team shop.

On the other hand, they have a Wally Szczerbiak jersey on sale for $19.99 if anyone is interested.

Nothin’ against the jersey, it’s fine-I’d just rather have mine have either James or O’Neil on it than Brad or Mark.

I’d buy a Daugherty, Price, Nance, or Hot Rod of these. Or even a Darnell Valentine.

But definitely not a Johnny Morton.

The Cavs are my bane. It seems they make a new jersey every month that I really want! It’s never-ending.

For most, this Cavs jersey is a foreign object because so many new fans have just been recently introduced to the Cavs via LeBron James. This jersey is a classic and deserves it place alongside the Miracle of Richfield jersey. Otherwise, most of the Wine and Gold should be associated with 50+ loss seasons.

I like the jerseys, but as a 5′8″ white male, I refuse the embarrassment of ever owning a basketball jersey.

Denny, right there with you. I have to pray they have smalls in stock and have been lucky for the most part. I for the life of me don’t understand why all of the jersey (no matter the size) are “Length +2″. Do they think everyone is tall and skinny?

What are they gonna do about the shorts? I can see Shaq making fun of them just like he made fun of Stockton’s shorts

Celtics fan here. I was searching for Mark Price stuff as he worked with our PG Rondo in the off season. Found this site and have to say, these CAVS jersey’s are my favorites. They should make them permanant. I don’t like the Wine, the Yellow, or the Orange. These ones from the Price/Ehlo/Harper era are my favorite.
