While We’re Waiting… Lee Wins Again, Letter to Dan Gilbert, and Boobie the “Conundrum”
While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.
In case you weren’t waching: “[Cliff] Lee pitched a gutty seven plus innings to earn his second win of the World Series, as the Phillies rolled past the Yankees to cut the lead to three games to two, forcing a game six in the Bronx, where the defending champs will once again be fighting for their post season lives. The veteran lefty, who dazzled the Yankees to the tune of no earned runs over nine innings in game one, took the hill once again for the Phillies. Although he wasn’t as sharp as his previous effort, he held the American League’s best offense at bay long enough for the Phillies to build an early led en route to the victory.” [The Fightins]

A letter to Dan Gilbert: “Every athletic organization should pattern themselves after the class, professionalism, style, and appreciation for its fans like the Cavs Organization exhibits. [...] I am thankful that you purchased the Cavalier Franchise, I am thankful for your Humanitarian and Charitable contributions to the city of Cleveland, and I am thankful that you (along with LeBron) helped to bring joy and hope back into my city.” [Cavalette23/SportsNation]

Croakies! Get your croakies! “Even though the next Browns affair is a Monday nighter, which means the sun will long be gone from the sky before kickoff, plenty of fans might still feel the need to wear sunglasses to the game. More comfortable than a bag over the head.” ['64 and Counting]

Among other things… “Boobie is a conundrum . . . and he may continue to be until we just let him stand behind the 3-point line and do what he does best. I really believe he can offer more . . . and we’ll see how that goes . . . but to those who say he should never shoot another 2-pointer: You have a point.” [Wine and Goldrush]

Already being reported on the News-Herald that Accorsi is the new GM
November 3rd, 2009 at 9:11 am
I hope that’s the case. I’m assuming Accorsi hasn’t lost his fastball and can still identify talent.
Hmm… talent. On a football team? On the Cleveland Browns? Surely you jest.

The Cavs may not win it this year, and may lose LeBron, but if those things happen I don’t think we can blame Dan Gilbert. He’s been absolutely fantastic.
November 3rd, 2009 at 9:19 am
Accorsi told WTAM that he wasn’t going to be the GM.
I can sympathize with Wizards fans since I have been part of the Browns/Steelers ‘rivalry’ for so long now.

Lee is a beast

This whole love affair with Dan Gilbert has gotten out of hand. Fans like the management when teams are good. The team is good because they have LeBron James. All Gilbert has to do is not be awful. Intelligent fans are right to notice the management even when the team is good, but he’s not
Meanwhile, when you stink, everything you do stinks. Can the Browns fire somebody WITHOUT involving security for god’s sake?

comment above: end of sentence should be …but he’s not the greatest owner in the history of organized sports…
November 3rd, 2009 at 9:43 am
Dan Gilbert is still the owner of Quicken Loans, which isn’t exactly the most upstanding finacial institution around, so lets not give him to much praise….
November 3rd, 2009 at 9:47 am
#8 any justification to that comment?
November 3rd, 2009 at 9:52 am
@ #9 — I worked on the stock market, and I hate to tell you, but he’s right. For proof, see their earnings/dividend statements for the past two years.

Did Isis write that letter to Gilbert?
Although I agree Lebron makes any owner look good, Gilbert has done some things to move the Cavs into the next generation in terms of marketing.
I ‘ve heard he is very good with the fans as well, which I think is the point of the letter.
November 3rd, 2009 at 9:55 am
Of course when you are being compared to Dolan and Lerner….
November 3rd, 2009 at 9:55 am
Oh lord. That Wizards fan site’s message board is ridiculous. Please don’t make the mistake because you traded for Randy Foye and Mike Miller that you are suddenly on the Cavs level, boys. You couldn’t beat us when we were toting out Laura Hughes, Sasha Pavlovic and Drew Gooden in our starting lineup; you certainly aren’t beating us now.

Comparing Wizards/Cavs to Browns/Steelers, at least the Wizards have won some games (mostly in the regular season). That said, I am hoping Shaq dunks on Stevenson’s face tonight.

Thank you for reprinting an excerpt from my “Enough Already”: An Open Letter To Dan Gilbert Blog! He is a great owner!
November 3rd, 2009 at 10:50 am
Dan Gilbert is a plain and simple jerk who has made his fortune through loan-sharking (since his college bookie days), but at least he has competently managed the Cavs. I agree w/ the earlier comments about keeping our effusiveness about him in check.
November 3rd, 2009 at 10:56 am
I never understood thi rivalry. We’ve whipped the wizards butts like a hundred years in a row. Sorry. Regular seaon means nothing. It means nothing to me to beat them. Their like any other team.
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:17 pm
#11 yes, I am Isis. #16 I can’t keep my effusiveness in check, no matter how hard I try. And as for the Wizards, they are not a contender.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:33 pm
Had we not played the Wiz three times in a row in the playoffs, noone would talk about them at all. It was just their lucky coincidence that they got pitted against the Cavs and now they think it is #1 vs. #2.
Unfortunately for them, it was alwys #1 vs. #8, they just happened to be the one to luck into that spot.

That letter, did not have, enough commas.
