If you are a fan of Cleveland Cavalier basketball, you have no doubt been following the story of Beacon Journal reporter and ESPN contributor Brian Windhorst. Terry Pluto was kind enough to send along another update on Brian’s condition-
I was able to spend more than an hour with Brian…ABJ editor Bruce Wingess was there, as was his friend, Matt. I think we’d all agree that Brian is doing OUTSTANDING. His spirits are excellent, he continues to recover. He went outside today for the first time since he went into the hospital about 5 weeks ago.
He is in rehab, getting his strength back. He is not connected to any machines, he has lost about 60 pounds — and overall, his health will really benefit from this in the long run.
On his first day of rehab — Monday — they expected him only to be able to stand for a minute and walk a few steps. He was up for 10 minutes, and went about 100 feet. Within three days, he was walking the halls, and impressing his therapists with his strength in other areas.
He will probably be in the hospital for another week or 2, then he plans to continue is therapy on the out-patient basis. His doctors believe he is way ahead of schedule, and a full recovery is very possible.
But it remains a long road, however, he also has come a long way already.
He has been overwhelmed and humbled by all the cards, emails, etc.
Danny Ferry, Mike Brown and some others from the Cavs have stopped by.
As someone who saw him in critical care a couple of times, then to see where he is today — it really is a miracle and I see God at work on this on several fronts.
Great news! Keep sending along your prayers and thoughts for a full recovery!
Brian Windhorst’s Care Page

Thanks for posting the Care Page link and the good news about Brian.
Great article, until Terry Pluto has to inject the God’s work thing at the end. What does Terry have to say about loved ones that don’t make it? What a naive statement on so many levels.
