While We’re Waiting… Delonte’s Comments, Mangini’s Fate, and Topping the Orlando Magic
While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.
Getcha notebook ready: “[Delonte West] was asked after Wednesday’s shootaround how he is progressing after having two leaves of absence during training camp to attend to personal matters. West ended up not playing in the first three games of the season. “One plus one is two and C always comes out to A and B,” West said to FanHouse.
West, who hadn’t spoken to reporters since media day Sept. 28, was asked what that meant. “One plus one always be two,” he said.
West again was asked to clarify. “One plus one always be two, brother,” he said. West declined further comment. [Chris Thomasson/FanHouse]

Well, that went well… “Unless something drastic happens, such as the Browns catching fire and winning at least five of their last eight games, head coach Eric Mangini will likely be fired at the end of the year. But the Browns, who are getting worse instead of better with each passing week, have absolutely no chance to do that well, which means Mangini will almost certainly be gone. Is this disaster of a season all Mangini’s fault? No, of course not. But a lot of the blame can be laid directly at his feet.” [Steve King/The OBR]

Mo-Vember! “Some would caution: It’s November. And it is, so no complaints there. But if saying that it’s November is meant to take anything away from Wednesday night’s victory in Orlando . . . which it is, at least to some small extent . . . then I have a little problem with that.” [Wine and Goldrush]

And finally, catch Pete from ClevelandFrowns on WKNR’s really big show. He’ll be talking about the much-discussed protest. [Cleveland Frowns]

If the Browns bring in a new coach, at least we don’t have to worry about them blowing up the team again. There is no team to blow up.
November 12th, 2009 at 9:20 am
i think delonte is writing a children’s book for dr. seuss, brother
November 12th, 2009 at 9:26 am
Still not as good as when Delonte riffed on Bugs Bunny…or talked about playing basketball with a sock.
November 12th, 2009 at 9:27 am
As much as I’d love to see Mangini fired, it’s hard to believe that he will be. It would be too good to be true.
But hey, whoever thought Kokinis would have been fired already?
November 12th, 2009 at 9:27 am
“West declined further comment.”
I mean, what else was there to say. He clearly explained himself. Also, Delonte is a fortune cookie.
November 12th, 2009 at 9:32 am
I always enjoy it when Delonte purposely says ridiculous things like that in order to get a laugh. It reminds me of the sock comment… good times
November 12th, 2009 at 9:36 am
It’s laughable to me how Pete crucified Dog Pound Mike for seeking the spotlight, when he’s doing the same thing.
November 12th, 2009 at 9:52 am
Didn’t Lerner already say in his “email press conference” that Mangini would be the coach even into next year? I hope that he has since retracted that, but I hadn’t heard that he had chaged his mind. I so agree with the comment on the brown pants, though. They HAVE to go! I think one thing no one has brought up is that we do not wear all white any more…that is our legacy as far as a uniform goes. If Mangini doesn’t see that as our most famous look, it’s no wonder he has this team in complete turmoil. This makes me long for the days we didn’t even have a team…less stress and embarassment.
November 12th, 2009 at 9:54 am
Mangini will be fired if we bring in this football “czar” because no qualified person in their right mind is going to want to stick with him given the mess that has been created.
November 12th, 2009 at 9:55 am
@ #7
Yeah Pete is just a little too much in love with himself for my tastes.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:00 am
I agree with your reasoning, AMC, but who “in their right mind” would even take that job right now? And if it’s Holmgren, wasn’t he already asked to step down from that position. If he’s going to coach, fine, but I really don’t want to hire someone who has already failed in the position we’re hiring for. We should have learned our lesson with doing that…
November 12th, 2009 at 10:02 am
When I read what Delonte said I laughed so hard.. I hope youre right and that he said that on purpose.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:40 am
1 +1 does in fact =2
and
a^2 + b^2 does in fact = C^2
Delonte bringing both the algebra and arithmetic.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:28 am
Apparently the guys at OBR don’t read Cleveland Frowns or else they would realize that nothing is Mangini’s fault. How dare they!
November 12th, 2009 at 11:30 am
Aaron Goldhammer reads this site? Well, there goes the neighborhood.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:34 am
The Frowns did not put out a good argument on WKNR..
November 12th, 2009 at 12:39 pm
Hey, Gang. Thankfully the podcast of our segment will be posted at espncleveland.com so you’ll be able to listen and judge for yourselves if you missed it, but to address the comment that it’s laughable for me to seek the the spotlight: First, obviously I did seek the spotlight. The issue is whether I had a good reason to do so. I think I did, because I think cleveland can send a better message than the one dawg pound mike is sending. Why should I feel bad for trying to get a message out that I believe in? If u disagree with the message, fine. I’ve explained why I disagree with you in plenty of detail, and am glad to debate you on any of the specific points, as I do, every day at Frowns. But don’t hate on me for doing my best to get it out there.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:25 pm
Whose turn is it to get the donuts?
November 12th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
Frowns, I dont agree with Dog Pound Mike, because like you say, what is he trying to accomplish? But, I didnt think your time on WKNR really helped you guys out. I still feel like the Brown’s Fans need to send a message to ownership, and quite simply going and cheering your butt off will do the opposite (I cannot offer another option currently other then not buying tickets, but if you have the ticket then not going in is worthless). They need a new front office. They need a new coach that does not have dictatorship-like powers (or at least to take away Mangini’s grasp of all power).

“to address the comment that it’s laughable for me to seek the the spotlight: First, obviously I did seek the spotlight. The issue is whether I had a good reason to do so.”
Subjective. I imagine DPM feels he had good reason to seek the spotlight as well.
Regardless of my opinions on the “Brown Out” now that “Our voices have been heard” or on the “Protest protest,” I will “hate” when you hypocritically perform the same activities for which you publicly and viciously lambasted another.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Ben: Let me state my point more clearly then. I didn’t lambaste Mike for “going public.” I lambasted Mike for “going public with a message that I view as harmful.” (There’s a big difference between the two.) Then, to mitigate what I view as the damage done by Mike’s message, I went public with a message that I think is much better. Explain why you’re hating on that, please?
Bobby: I don’t disagree that Mangini could use some help on the personnel side, but I’ve explained why the best message Randy Lerner can get from the fans is to let Mangini do his job, and the best way the fans can show that on Monday is to stand up for the Browns, stand up for Mangini, and stand against the high profile fan who’s trying to run Mangini out of town.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:28 pm
Ben…I forgot that you used “hypocritical” here, too. Explain where the hypocrisy is here, please.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
i dont intend on getting into a large-scale debate with you on someone else’s blog, particularly when it isn’t going to get us anywhere.
But to address it briefly; what i find hypocritical is that Protest protesters have repeatedly characterized DPM as a “self-serving attention whore.” Despite their professed benevolent intentions, the Protest protesters are creating the same types of websites, making the same types of radio/tv appearances, and gathering the same type of following they decried.
…and so I “hate.”
November 12th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
I guess it’s not hate if you really don’t understand.
The point isn’t the procedure. The point is the substance of the arguments. I wasn’t attacking Mike for going public. I was attacking him for going public with a damaging argument. When someone goes public with a really bad argument, that, to me, and to many others, is proof that they’re doing it for attention. When the argument makes sense, it’s easier to believe that the person is doing it because they believe it’s what’s right.
In the end, it’s your choice to believe what you want, but if you can’t address the underlying arguments, then your criticism is meaningless.
November 12th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
Try to rationalize it anyway you want, man.
November 12th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Well I’m glad you at least understand that that’s what I’m trying to do. I won’t hold my breath for you to explain why the way that you want to rationalize things is any better. But I will try to ask again, why you think Cleveland fans shouldn’t rock the house on Monday, because you haven’t said a word about that. You’re just attacking me for being on the radio. As if nobody has a right to respond to Dawg Pound Mike.
November 13th, 2009 at 1:25 am
people like attention, browns protest bad or good, Obama’s a socialist, and teaparties no longer work……
All things I’ve learned from people talking up their opinions this year….
Oh and I almost forgot, I’ve learned Book it!!! and OBSERVE is more functional of a word then I ever gave it credit for.
