NBA Trade Rumors: Who is the Most Likely Cleveland Cavalier to Be Traded?
December 26, 2009Urban Meyer’s Sudden Retirement Could Affect Ohio State’s Recruiting
December 27, 2009ESPN’s Weekend Dime covers the first trimester NBA awards this week as well as some intriguing Cleveland Cavalier trade rumors:”Jamison has been on the Cavaliers’ radar for some time, as the ever-reliable Brian Windhorst of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reminded us in his column last weekend, but it’s believed that Cleveland would only do a Zydrunas Ilgauskas-for-Jamison deal if it knew that the Wizards were prepared to release Ilgauskas after consummating the trade.” [Marc Stein/ESPN.com]
What the win in Los Angeles means for the season right now: “Our Cavs rose to the occasion and catapulted themselves right back into “the discussion.” Although in my eyes they’ve been there all along considering we’re now 8-3 vs winning squads and have wins in Orlando and in LA with a day one loss against Boston as our only blemish.” [Bill Nagel/Stepien Rules]
Answering some of the questions revolving around this team: “After yesterdays big win over the Los Angeles Lakers, I got to thinking… Does Cleveland REALLY have a shot at an NBA Title? Can Shaq stay healthy and help us deep in the playoffs?” [The Lake Erie Soldiers]
Talkin’ about why expectations should be altered for Shaq: “Cavs fans need to view Shaquille O’Neal as a role player. The choice was not the O’Neal of 1999 vs. O’Neal of 2009; it’s O’Neal of 2009 vs. Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic, who combined were making $20 million. O’Neal’s main value will be in the playoffs when the Cavs face big men such as Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, Kendrick Perkins, etc.” [Terry Pluto/Cleveland Plain Dealer]
It is truly unbelievable in this city as the Waiting For Next Year concept turns 45 years old today: “We’re talking about the fact Sunday will be the 45th anniversary of the Browns’ improbable – and glorious — 27-0 victory over the heavily-favored Baltimore Colts in the 1964 NFL Championship Game at Cleveland Stadium. Wow, 45 years – nearly a half-century.” [Steve King/The Orange and Brown Report]
A simple don’t-do list for our new Browns President courtesy of your local beat writer: “Holmgren is aware of the immediate issues on his plate — deciding on his coach, finding a general manager, finding a quarterback, et al. There is no shortage of suggestions on what he should do first. So instead of offering my to-do list, I’m offering Holmgren my don’t-do list.” [Marla Ridenour/Akron Beacon Journal]
Ohio State was celebrating Disney style yesterday and courtesy of the Plain Dealer, here are the words and pictures to prove it: “So began a six-day balance of California livin’ for the Buckeyes, who spent Saturday evening utilizing their front-of-the-line passes at Disneyland’s two parks.” [Doug Lesmerises/Plain Dealer]
Jeremiah Masoli and Terrelle Pryor will dictate the ball game as the countdown is on for the Granddaddy of Them All: “For Terrelle Pryor, the 96th Rose Bowl will be the last game of his sophomore season and the first game of the rest of his career. Even his coach says Pryor can’t claim beginner’s status anymore. Much more is expected from the former No. 1 national prospect of the 2008 recruiting class when the Buckeyes take on Oregon on Friday afternoon.” [Tim May/The Columbus Dispatch]
Finishing off the post today, take a look at this review of the defense in the division last season: “The rest of the AL Central did not fare so hot. Cleveland (26th, -33.5), Chicago (27th, -35.6), Minnesota (28th, 37.3) and Kansas City (30th, -49.9) were absolutely atrocious on defense.” [Johnf34/Waves of Arms]

Maybe you should change your concept to WFATOTISTWAC (Waiting for a team other than indoor soccer to win a championship) but, we don’t have the Crunch or Force anymore and 1994’s a ways back, too!
At the end of the 1993-94 season, the Cleveland Crunch defeated the St. Louis Ambush in a best-of-5 series to win the NPSL title. It was the city’s first sports team to do so since the 1965 Browns championship.
Thanks for the links guys. Really appreciate you posting ours about the Cavs!
