Now Is The Time To Pull The Trigger For Jamison
Written By: Andrew | Category: Cleveland Cavaliers | Comments: 88
You have to admit that, for being a Cleveland sports site and being “rivals” of the Washington Wizards, we really haven’t taken too many cheap shots at the Wizards over this whole Gilbert Arenas fiasco. Perhaps because in truth, I’ve quietly been watching from afar, just waiting for this thing to spiral out of control to the point that Washington will get serious about moving their pieces.
Well, that time is now. Chris Mannix of SI.com wrote an article about the fallout of the Arenas scandal and how it will affect other teams in the league. In the article, he points out that literally every single player on the Wizards roster can be had, writing:
“According to multiple league sources, Washington is making its entire roster available and is open to all trades, including for players who bring less talent but have shorter contracts.”
That has to be music to Danny Ferry’s ears. As I pointed out earlier today, the Cavaliers offense has not always been what it should be this season. Picking up someone like Antawn Jamison is, as we’ve pointed out time and time again, precisely what the doctor ordered for the Cavaliers. The problem has always been the Cavaliers lack of solid young talent to sweeten any pot. But if the “including for players who bring less talent but have shorter contracts” line is to believed, this trade rumor may heat up sooner than we thought.
Later on in the Mannix article, he hypothesizes how a potential deal might look:
“Sources said the team would prefer to move Jamison, 33, a good soldier and automatic 20-point, eight-rebound performer every night. The free-spending Cavaliers have long been enamored with the versatile Jamison, and they might be willing to absorb the final two years of underachieving Andray Blatche’s contract to get him.”
Now, if this were a fantasy world, I would say the Cavs should offer Shaq for both Jamison and Butler. Obviously that would never happen. But if the Cavaliers are indeed looking to acquire Jamison and the Wiz want them to take Blatche as well, a potential Ilgauskas and Hickson for Jamison and Blatche swap would work.
As always, the problem hinges on Washington’s willingness to help the Cavaliers win a Championship. Cleveland doesn’t want to move Ilgauskas without word that the other team will buy out his contract so Big Z can come back to Cleveland. I’m not sure this is something Washington would do.
For now this is clearly all speculation and we’ve yet to see any word that anything is in the works. Knowing Danny Ferry, though, I have a feeling he’s going to be making some calls to the DC area this week, and with any luck, maybe Ferry can pull off one last masterpiece to top off this roster. Keep your eyes open on this one.

It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out, because of the recent change in ownership following Abe Polin’s passing. Ted Leonsis is known to spend; he’s pumped a lot of money into the Capitals in order to keep them on the up and up. That being said, it’s clear that the Wizards as-is aren’t winning any championships anytime soon.
Jamison would be a HUGE get.
Why not salivate over Arenas and Miller, too? Is there some obvious thing I’m overlooking?
Yes, please.
@ Matt#2 – Jamison fills the most needed role on the Cavs team as is right now, IMO. A high-scoring 4 would be magnificent, as we wouldn’t need to see JJ try to figure basketball out all the time.
There’s past history between the Cavs and Wizards re: Jamison trades, as well. Last year a deal reportedly was close.
Arenas wouldn’t fit on this team all that well – there’s already a bevy of 1/2 hybrid guards on the team. Jamison is much, much more willing to work with others (and likely would be even more so if a chip is on the line), and is an absolute stand-up guy. Eric Mangini is salivating over the idea of a stand-up guy like Jamison being in Cleveland.
In all seriousness, the Wiz should consider a Shaq for Caron and Jamison. It gets them out of 2 big contracts, they buy out Shaq and save close to $50M, for just this year. But, it won’t happen. Jamison is a great player. But his contract runs 1 year too long for me. A guy to consider is Troy Murphy who can do the same things as Jamison, is a little bit younger, and his contract is up after next season. This will give us some good cap space after next season, possibly to attract Yao. Whether or not fans want Yao is another story.
IMO we need to charge hard after David West and do anything to get that deal done. That team would most certainly buy Z out of his contract.
Arenas’s contract is why. That, and who knows how long he’s going to be suspended for.
I would love to pull of this deal by getting a stretch 4 who can score on a consistent basis. I’ve always been interested in Blatche’s game, so I’d have no issue with taking on his contract as well. The only red flag is Jamison’s deal and the fact that he’s 33 and would be 37 by the time he’s off the books.
Any word on using Wally in a sign-and-trade instead of Z? That would help eliminate the need for a team to buyout Z’s contract.
Funny but the Arenas story isn’t really talked about in DC either. The Foreskins got a new coach and that’s all anyone cares about around these here parts.
@S-Dub: I’ve long been a Troy Murphy fan, but I have serious worries about his defense.
As for David West, he would be an unbelievable fit here in my opinion, but I don’t think the Hornets are desperate enough for Cleveland to get him. Other teams will outbid Cleveland for West’s services.
After watching the Cavs turn into the best interior defensive team with Shaq in the lineup, I’d be hestitant to trade him. Offensively, Shaq’s been brutal at times but we traded Shaq weirdly enough for his defense. I wouldn’t trade him unless I KNEW he’d be willing for a buyout. Although, Jamison and Butler look mighty tasty.
“Why not salivate over Arenas and Miller, too? Is there some obvious thing I’m overlooking?”
Because spending 122 million dollars on Arenas’ bad knee is a horrible, horrible idea without the potential of the guy being sent to prison on federal gun charges.
@ Andrew – I’m pretty sure the “salivating over Arenas” bit was sarcasm. If New Orleans is in as much financial trouble as it sounds, the Cavs should certainly be able to work something out for West.
Jamison and Butler for Shaq and Hickson. Make it happen!*
*I know that this is an impossibility.
Cavs fans have every right to take cheapshots at the Wizards for Gilbert’s insane gun fiasco.
Sincerely,
Delonte West
it would be nice to get a traditional 2-3 in butler as well, since our tallest 2 guards aren’t good, and our best 2 guards aren’t tall. plus he can play on and off the ball, and his current contract makes him a steal. plus, he always has big games against the cavs, so it would be nice to neutralize that. (kinda like how the cavs wanted rafer alston, so he could stop killing them on other teams)
the one thing about the mannix report that doesn’t seem to make sense is calling blatche “underachieving.” i don’t particularly like the guy, but he has VASTLY improved his game this year, and is pretty much the 6th man on the wiz.
jamison would be a great pickup, since he definitely hasn’t shown his age this season. but realistically, if lebron refines his post game, the cavs wouldn’t even need him.
let’s hope danny ferry uses tonight’s game to at least do some window-shopping.
I really wish Cavs fan would get off this Troy Murphy kick. He’s huge defensive liability, he’s been a gunner for horrid teams that play with an accelerated pace (which means we won’t be getting his production in a Mike Brown slow-it-down offense) and he’s slow and unathletic.
Bringing Troy Murphy in would be certainly an upgrade over Z offensively at this point but he’s not putting our team over the top.
The Cavs become the favorite if you bring a highly versatile pure scorer like Jamison (even with HIS defensive liabilities. They can’t be any worse than JJ), a potential defensive monster like Anthony Randolph at the 4, or a rugged defender/scorer at shooting guard like Butler.
NO, NO, NO to Murphy.
@Andrew: His D is no worse than JJ’s D at this point. I just think Murphy offers exactly what Jamison does and the difference on the defensive end is negligible between the 2. I think they can both defend better than JJ at this point too.
NO is in serious need to get under the tax. They probably won’t make the playoffs. they’re trying to shed any long term deal they can. NO ONE will take Okafor and I doubt anyone takes that awful Mo Pete deal. Their best bet to get under the tax is to move West. If they want JJ back in the deal they can include a guy who can makes about $3M to even out the money if it was Z/JJ for West and Player X.
@ Amin – that, or Jamison just stays in Cleveland, and whoever we trade leaves for DC with the Wiz. That would be fun.
Any idea why the links don’t seem to be working on the trade machine?
agreed – no to murphy. No to including hickson as well. if washington wants to hinge blatche to jamison, so be it, but no reason for us to put hickson into that mix. i posted this elsewhere, but jamison for Z straight up with a buyout? maybe depending on how badly they want to move jamison’s contract. jamison + javale mcgee/andray blatche + 2010 second round pick, for Z (with a buyout), d. jackson and a future first round protected pick and/or future second round pick and/or rights to eyenga or sasha kaun? i dont see how that doesnt work.
We aren’t getting Anthony Randolph unless Golden State goes nuts and gets sick of the guy and says ya, we’ll just take JJ thanks. But I think we should take on an old man in Jamison that has a final contract year of $15M and will be old and broken down by then. You can’t just look at this year. It’s about the future, because if LBJ does leave (which I don’t believe) then do we really want to be paying Jamison $15M to avg 15 and 6 for us?
@ S-Dub – Jamison will be wonderful trade bait with that $15 mill expiring in the future, no?
here’s a thought: if the Heat cut Arroyo when they add Alston, would he make sense as a back-up PG on the cavs? he might be a nice option to spell Mo as a true backup PG for 10-15 minutes per night, no?
jamison is KG’s age (33) and is holding up alot better than KG. so what if he is 35 at the end of the contract? its not like hes pushing 40. denny makes a good point. jamison would be a nice fix this year and next, and then a trade chip after that. im willing to roll the dice that jamison doesnt fall off a cliff in the near year.

I would love to have Jamison and talked considerably about our need for him last season. He’s not a great defender, but we have Andy as our great defensive 4. Jamison is an excellent rebounder AND a solid shooter… that’s something we’ve been missing at the 4 for a long, long time. I really like JJ Hickson, but if we’re going for a championship this year, his development just isn’t at the right point to contribute. Question though… if we get both Jamison and Blatche, what happens when Leon Powe comes back? We might need to include Powe in the trade since the Wizards don’t seem to care about winning this season.
Jamison = ring. Make it happen, Cap’n.
Btw, I think the Cavs passed up Caron Butler in the draft for the immortal Dejuan(100 points in high school!)Wagner, no? Or maybe I’m thinking of passing up Corey Maggette for Trajon Langdon.
Murphy wouldn’t be a nice expiring next year? He’ll make double figures. I won’t be upset in the least if we add Jamison. But, we all thought Wally’s contract would be a nice piece and it wasn’t used because there was no real deal out there. We can’t trade for a guy and say man in 3 years his expiring is going to be nice. We also don’t know how much LBJ is pushing for certain guys behind the scenes either.
DAVID WEST, DAVID WEST, DAVID WEST.
I am disgusted with Cleveland’s ability to just remove Z from this organization. Z has given everything to the Cav’s organization and Cleveland’s community. He has battled through injuries, god-awful teams, a benching to an over-hyped player (Shaq) and embarrassed by the organization (the night he received the DNP). Yet, he has never flinched to call out the organization, demand a trade or take his community contributions elsewhere. Now that we are the brinks of a championship, he is disposable? That’s terrible and I think you must give more respect to a guy that has been the face of our team for the last 15 years.
Hey, WFNY, sorry for veering off topic but you guys are strangely silent about Berea doings today. Can you station someone on the facility access road to see if Mangini is leaving with a cardboard box in the back seat with family photos sticking out? I’d do it but I’m kinda busy.
what happens if powe comes back? its called depth!
If we include Shaq in this trade we are back to having no answer for Howard and Gasol; the Magic and the Lakers being the two teams we’ll likely have to go through to get to a championship. We also lose our biggest interior defensive presence. If I could, I’d wallpaper my room with pictures of Kobe Bryant on the floor because he just bounced off Shaq when he tried to go to the hoop.
Butler and Jamison look good, but that trade strengthens our strengths and weakens our weaknesses.
@S-Dub
You aren’t thinking the Troy Murphy/Antwan Jamison all the way through. Murphy and Antwan Jamison’s contracts are nearly identical. They both make 11 mil plus and they both have two years on the contract. Murphy is 29 years old but will be 32 when that contract ends. He’s not exactly a spring chicken with a ton of untapped potential. He’s as good as he’ll ever be. Do we want to pay Murphy to give 13-9 (his numbers right now) at 32 the same money that we would pay somebody like Jamison a vastly superior player?
Secondly, Murphy is an EXTREMELY limited player. He gives you two things three point shooting and rebounding. He has no low-post game. He doesn’t block shots. He’s not even an adequate help defender. He’s not gonna be able to guard Garnett. He can’t guard Rashard. Honestly, I’d rather have Z because Z takes up space and blocks shots.
Thirdly, Jamison’s age is certainly a cause for concern but the dude is 33 and he’s still throwing up 22-9 and its not like he’s shown dramatic signs of decline. If he can give us 75% of that two years from now, I wouldn’t be suprised and I’d be ecstatic.. Besides, he’s extremely versatile offensive. He can score in the post, he’s got a lethal mid-range game and he can shoot the three.
@ SD – The Cavs certainly are going to make part of the agreement that Z is bought out and can return (see: McDyess, Antonio).
Secondly, if you REALLY would prefer butterflies, rainbows, and all the wonderful things in the world like the Cavs being nice and keeping Z rather than getting a BETTER PLAYER and have a better shot at a championship, more power to you. I’ll take the better shot at the chip, thank you.
Harv – Holmgren/Mangini meeting started at 2p… Will keep you guys abreast of anything we hear.
Bill Simmons’s (I hate him more everytime he says LeBron is leaving) take on trades involving wizards.
VP’s Verdict: I’d clean house. What would the Cavs say if Washington offered them Jamison, Butler and Brendan Haywood for Shaq’s expiring contract and J.J. Hickson? What would the Heat say if Washington offered them the same trade for Jermaine O’Neal and a 2010 draft first-rounder? My favorite of the possibles …
Fake Trade 9 (three-way): Wizards get Carlos Boozer and Shaq; Utah gets Caron Butler and Mike James’ EC; Cavs get Jamison, Haywood and Kyle Korver’s EC. Utah drops close to the tax line. Cleveland upgrades two positions for nothing. And Washington remains competitive this season and gets to start over financially in the summer. Just enough to string fans along in case The Chalk Outline rises from the sidewalk.
so what’s the ideal scenario here? jamison/blatche for hickson/z, then pick up z in 30 days and cut d-block? who else are the cavs willing to trade to get back someone who puts them over the top?
Just because the Hornets need to get under the tax doesn’t mean they will trade their 2nd best player. West would be a perfect fit, but trading him would probably make Chris Paul demand to be traded. West is their 2nd best player and trading him tells Paul that the hornets aren’t trying to win, he is already angry that they fired Byron Scott without talking to him, and this would only make it worse. New Orleans can’t risk pissing off their franchise player even more than they already have, and that is why they probably won’t trade David West, unless their team just totally tanks, which probably wont happen, they are only 2 games out of the playoffs right now and they already had to go time without Paul b/c of injury. It would be totally sweet though
Also, we can get Murphy for less than we can get for Jamison, he is younger, his contract is shorter, and is a much much much better 3 point shooter than Jamison is. He can’t create his own shot, while Jamison can, but that is ok with me because he is better at spreading the floor. And neither can play D, lets not pretend that one is better than the other
im not into simmons’ trades. shaq has to stick around for matching up with other big time centers. SD-buckeye – relax with the Z pity party. id say any trade involving Z has a 99% chance of a buyout with a return to Cle at the prorated vet’s minumum in 30 days, of course after “weighing and considering all other options”.
@ mike – thanks for the photoshop idea.
what photoshop idea?
@Ricky
The problem with your Murphy/Jamison analysis, though, is we have a greater need for someone that can create their own shot than we need another spot up shooter. Mo, Gibson, West, Moon and Parker can all camp out on the line and shoot from a James kick-out. Hell, Z and Jawad Williams can do that too. I’m OK with Jamison shooting a lower percentage from 3 than Murphy precisely because he can score off the dribble and play down low.
If shipping out Z gets us a better chance to win it all, I’ll fly up to Cleveland and help the big fella pack his bags. Much love and respect for what he’s done for this franchise, but he is now a bit player, whereas Jamison can still cut it as a co-star. Priority One is “win a ring for the King” and, more importantly, for the city of Cleveland. As Bob Sugar once said, “It’s not “show friends”, it’s show BUSINESS”
DocZeus, Murphy has only 2 years left on his deal, so next year will be his last, while Jamison has 3. Also, is Jamison going to be able to guard KG? He won’t be any better, its not like he blocks shots ever
Murphy – Boo.
Jamison – Yay.
can you imagine a starting 5 of:
Mo
Butler
LeBron
Jamison
Z
with Andy and Delonte off the bench? how even with Z in there, that is athletic, especially if they go Mo, Delonte, Butler, LeBron, Jamison/Andy.
wishful thinking, IMO. the wiz will never go for trading their “arch rivals” the pieces to make sure they won’t finish higher than second in the division for the next 5 years.
also, here is a question…
can the Cavs trade Z and he is NOT bought out, when does his contract really end? What I am saying is: if he plays for a team that doesn’t make the playoffs can he be hired as a Cavaliers front office guy at the end of May? That way he could still get a ring – if that matters.
I like Jamison more as a player, but his contract is pretty unappealing, as is his age, and if we have to give up anything other than Z to get him I’m not willing to do it. We won’t have to give up anything extra to get Murphy though, and his contract is better
EZ, we do have lots of shooters, but none of them play PF. Murphy would spread the floor on offense much better than JJ does right now and make us more effective, as would Jamison, but for less cost
@saggy
I think the Orlando Magic and the Atlanta Hawks are also going to have a hand in making sure the Wizards don’t finish higher than 2nd, or 3rd, or 4th for the next 5 years.
@Ricky
I think we’re better served with someone that can both shoot and drive rather than someone that can just shoot. Jamison shoots the 3 well enough that teams still have to defend him on the perimeter, but he gets the added bonus of being able to put it on the floor when they play him too close.
@EZ
haha, touche.
@Denny
But…butterflies are cute and rainbows are beautiful! Will you take that same view if LBJ takes the Chip$$ and leaves Cleveland? That is, LBJ shouldn’t stay because of his affiliation with Akron/Cleveland and he should go to the team that offers him the most success.

@saggy – If it’s the physical ring that matters, I’m fairly certain that each championship team gets an allotement of rings on top of those on the roster that they get to give out. in that event, I’m sure Z would get one.
I say,
Shaq and Z to Wash
For
Haywood, Jamison, and Butler
Then we can bring back Z.

I agree, Shaq was good in that one game for us which is exactly the reason we brought him in. Plus lots of intangibles, I agree.
But wait, there’s more:
1. Who’s going to have more left come playoff time? Shaq looks pretty tired in December. Haywood’s only 30
2. Is he the only one who can play against Howard? stats say no.
3. Haywood: 6 million Shaq: 21 Million, both expiring contracts.
EZ: the 1st and 3rd games are below Howard’s average for that year. So Haywood does have some effect according to the evidence, plus he was with Washington (we’re better all around) Logic says he would still help against Howard, perhaps even more with us than with Washington.
4. Haywood avg this year Pts9-Reb10-Ast2 Shaq 10-7-1
I’m not saying we need to trade shaq, but if we can get haywood and Jamison for shaq, I think we’ll be better off come playoff time.
Younger, fresher, and still be ok against Orlando. for less money$ That’s long term going to keep Lebron here. (Or at least another reason)
Win here! Win Now! Win Forever!
Sorry,
haywood 9pts, 10 reb, 2 blocks
Shaq 10 pts, 7 reb, 1 block.
We’d still have a post presence and Haywood has a better shot at completing the and 1.
Win Zilla.
I’ve never seen Kobe bounce off Haywood.
That brings me to my new name for the Lebron – Shaq duo:
King & Kong
@ SD – I’d absolutely take a championship now if it means LBJ will leave Cleveland. I don’t care. I’d rather have one chip and him be gone than have him here long-term and no rings.
1. The Cavs have repeatedly said they will not trade Z unless the other team buys him out…if the Wiz will do that, he should by all means be included, but whether they would buy him out is not known.
2. Echoing the comments of others: Troy Murphy is an extremely limited player whose stats have been inflated by playing on teams (GSW, IND) with extremely fast paces who don’t win, allowing him to simply gun without much conscience and get lots of rebounds deriving from the fast pace. He is a terrible defender, has no low post game, and cannot get his own shot. All statistics back up these previous claims. At this point, he is a slightly younger, slightly better version of Z. We should not get him.
3. I have said in the past that I would take Randolph over any of the other “available” PFs. But with ownership in GS in turmoil, no one in the league really knows what is going on over there. At this point I am considering Randolph to not be available, since no one is talking about GS being sellers at this point, but I could be wrong.
4. Jamison, to me, is a logical goal. To get him we will need to offer both “talent” (JJ and a first rounder) and cap flexibility (Z or Wally). Again, Shaq is extremely valuable to this team against the other good teams in the league, Cavs’ brass have said we do not want to trade away Z or Shaq, etc. Jamison would be worth getting if we didn’t have to give up Shaq. Echoing others again, the difference between Murphy and Jamison (besides the obvious numbers) is that Murphy is a very limited spot up shooter that floats around the perimeter and who needs a fast pace to get his numbers, while Jamison can score from anywhere and can get his own shot (an ability which only LBJ, Mo, and Delonte have on this team). We have plenty of spot up shooters (Boobie, Parker, Mo at times, Z, even Jamario at times); we need someone who can create his own shot. Hickson COULD be good in a few years, but we need to win now. Hickson and a first + Wally or Z (assuming Z is bought out and can return, trading Z flat out would be despicable and we have said we won’t do that) for Jamison and Blatche (a solid and very athletic low post player).
I’ll take a “LeBron long term” plan over a “ring now” plan. Of course, they aren’t mutually exclusive.
i could totally see the wiz making some trade involving Z with the “agreement” to buy him out, only to then not do it to make up for trading with their “rivals.”
Let’s put it this way:
Does trading for Troy Murphy put the fear of God in any other contenders about the Cavs chances?
Of course not.
Is Arenas now “Agent 00″?
has anyone heard anything about wally lately? any word on whether or not he is still considering a comeback, and we could therefore actually use him in a S&T? is the reason this isnt talked about more because it probably wont happen?
the Wally issue is dicey…he would need to pass a physical…not much has been said on the issue lately, and I don’t know if anyone has talked to Wally himself about the issue: would he swallow his pride and allow himself to be traded purely for cap relief?
Here’s my question (and if it’s been answered i apologize). If we bring in Jamison and Blatche, where does that leave the Cavs for next year’s FA class?? Is it pretty much signing LBJ back up and LBJ only? Where does that put us in regards to trying to bring in someone like a Wade, Bosh, Amare, Joe Johnson, or anyone else for that matter?
Ol Gil just got suspended indefinitely. Come on Wizards fire sale.
commissioner David Stern said in a statement Wednesday. “Accordingly, I am suspending Mr. Arenas indefinitely, without pay, effective immediately pending the completion of the investigation by the NBA.”
happy birthday Gil!
People who want to trade Shaq = myopic and irritating
People comparing Murphy’s game to Jamison’s = baffling
What about the blowouts IN Orlando and IN Los Angeles did we not like? What part about Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum/Gasol being non-factors was distasteful or left you so malcontent?
Thankfully, Ferry will never, ever, ever, never, ever, never trade Shaq. Get over it.
70-
The Cavs will have virtually nothing outside of the MLE (5-6 million)next year for free agents, assuming they sign LBJ. Forget signing a major FA, they won’t be able to add anyone. That’s why it’s imperative they do something with Z.
@JJ From AK – Everyone needs to realize the hard facts that even if we were to renounce the rights to Z and Shaq, we’d be something like $1 million under the cap. Yes, that’s right. We are still sitting at the cap after dumping those two contracts. We will not be able to sign any free agents next year unless they A) already played for us B) Will take the MLE or C) will work for free chips at Gilbert’s new casino.
THE ONLY WAY TO GET BETTER FOR THE FUTURE IS TO MAKE A TRADE WITH THE EXPIRING CONTRACTS THAT WE HAVE NOW.
And I think we will.
Right on, Clown Baby.
Essentially, this trade deadline IS our offseason: i.e., this is our time to add on talent. Trading for Jamison would be like adding him on as an FA, essentially
jack,
how about shaq for howard?
“If we include Shaq in this trade we are back to having no answer for Howard and Gasol; the Magic and the Lakers being the two teams we’ll likely have to go through to get to a championship. We also lose our biggest interior defensive presence.”
Bingo EZ.
EZ is on fire today.
@ MP34,
I really don’t think Shaq is the ONLY answer to Howard. We were hoping that Shaq would have one more season in him. I think he’s strong in some games but definitely looks tired in others.
Let’s at least look at what’s out there and if we can get 3 to 1 for Shaq I’d like to think Ferry would consider it.
Cavs are not trading Shaq. Its really silly to even talk about it at this point. He helped dominate the Magic and Lakers, and the Cavs are going to get rid of him? Stop.
I wonder what the Wiz would want for him. Z is obvious, but I’m guessing Cavs would want to guarantee the Wiz buy him out before dealing him. So that could be a problem. Also, I find it hard to believe they’re that interested in Hickson, who has shown he’s not going to be anything special (not a certainty, but as close as one can get to certainty).
Jamison would be great here though, no doubt about it.
I would love for the Cavs to trade Shaq. We all know how well Big Z, Andy, LeBron, & anyone else of the bench can check Superman. As Superman proved lastyear, Cavs can’t stop him. If Cleveland trades Shaq, I’ll be ready for another championship series in Orlando!
In so many of these trade scenarios, people keep mentioning throwing in J.J. Hickson as an afterthought. Hey, the guy has great upside and he’s only 21. I’d rather sweeten the deal with a draft choice.
I personally would love to see Danny Ferry land a player like Antwan Jamison but I don’t know how realistic that might be even with all of the issues surrounding the Wizards now. I’ve long been a proponent that the Cavaliers needed a “real” starting PF on this team with Anderson Varejao and hopefully a soon to be returning Leon Powe. JJ Hickson is the odd man out. Perhaps Hickson along with a sign and trade of Wally along with perhaps a Daniel Gibson or maybe Darnell Jackson could be enough I don’t know all I know is if Ferry could add a piece like Jamison, wow, I like it!
I think this is a great opportunity to go after Bosh. A 3 way trade would work sending Jamison and Blatche to Toronto, Bosh to the Cavs, and Big Z and Hickson to the Wizards. Yes, the Cavs stand the chance of losing Bosh to free agency but they could win a title. and that goes a long way in getting players to stick around….
[...] would net the Lakers +8 wins over a season. That’s more than the Cavaliers could get from the projected Jamison (+7 wins) and West (+4 wins) trades. This deal would seemingly turn the Lakers into a super [...]
