Tom Heckert from the Philiadelphia Point of View

January 11, 2010The Browns have officially announced Tom Heckert as general manager. We will spare you with the entire press release, but here is what the new GM had to say:
“I want to thank Randy Lerner and Mike Holmgren for this tremendous opportunity,” Heckert said. “I also want to thank Jeffrey Lurie, Andy Reid and Joe Banner for an outstanding nine-year run with a first-class organization. It was the Eagles who allowed me to climb the NFL personnel ladder, and I am proud of what we were able to accomplish there. I will always have fond memories of my stay in Philadelphia. I am eager to get started with the Browns, a team for which my father worked and that I rooted for growing up. Working alongside some of the most experienced and successful people in this business in Mike, Eric Mangini and Bryan, I believe we have the foundation in place to re-establish the Browns as one of the top franchises in the NFL.”
With that said, let’s hope he’s right. Heckert will speak to Cleveland media tomorrow at 2PM along side Mike Holmgren and Eric Mangini.

WOOT!
Woot woot!
Let’s hope it all works out!!!!!!!!!
I’m excited for a breath of fresh air that didn’t come from Belichick’s direction.
This is bizarre. Twelve months ago the Browns were firing secretaries because of “the economy.” Today the economy is no better and they’ve just hired a new Prez, GM, and Financial Director for millions and millions of dollars.
Sure hope those secretaries get their jobs back. And maybe they can start paying the ball boys a few bucks.
@Alex
agreed.
sounds strange but i am looking forward to that press conference.
@ MrCleaveland — +1000000
How do ball boys get their jobs? Do you have to be in with the orginization?
@ Mr.Cleaveland – Great point! That thought never crossed my mind. I guess I’m still drunk on Holmgren actually being here. Kudos to you sir.
(And I may steal that and put it on my Facebook page :))
Clearly the organization is beyond reproach now.
Why did it take 11 years to get the new Browns to this point? I pretty much was thrown clear from the bandwagon 4 years ago, but this gives the first ray of hope I have seen in the front office in Berea since probably the 80s.
