So Long, Devin Brown

In an unfortunate turn of events, guard Devin Brown went from one of our Diamond in the Rough to 11th man in a matter of months.  Falling out of favor with Mike Brown, Devin was used primarily as a seat-warmer in the playoffs as the Cavaliers took on the best in the East.  Thus, it comes as no surprise that Brown will not be joining the Cavaliers come the 2008-09 season.

Despite nearly 54 percent of you wanting Brown to return, this one comes from the Hornets Beat:

The Hornets brought back a somewhat familiar face on Friday when the club signed swingman Devin Brown, who played with the team during its last exile season in Oklahoma City.

He will provide the Hornets with some depth at the wing, a place where the Cavaliers also have plenty.  While his services in Cleveland are and were much appreciated, there was obviously no spot on the Cleveland roster for Brown.

But as Brown and the Cavs go their separete ways, he’ll always be the guy who drained two (absolutely huge) free throws to beat the Philadelphia 76ers, locking up the four-seed in last season’s playoffs.

That’s what Brown can do for you.  Best of luck, Devin.

Not that I think Devin would have put the Cavs over the top, I still quarrel with Mike Brown benching him in the playoffs. Send your message to the player here by not signing him. At the same time Cavs staff didn’t hurt anyone but the Cavs by keeping him on the bench throughout the playoffs.

I agree that a hard stance needed to be taken, but a fine and not re-signing him would have sent the message well enough, I think.

Damn, i really wanted Brown back. Even though he didnt have the most talent on the team, he always hustled and made the best of every minute he was on the floor. I’ll miss him.

Cavs had way too many sub par point guards and shooting guards. It was inevitable he was leaving same with the way Damon left. Now if we could just get a big man like Z that can score.
