The 5-Hole: Blue Jackets News and Notes – 3/9/10 – Packin’ It In Edition
March 9, 2010WFNY Gets Interesting Emails (Vol. 1)
March 9, 2010Not even 24 hours after trading for quarterback Seneca Wallace, the Browns have parted ways with former Pro Bowler Derek Anderson.
Anderson joined Cleveland via waivers from Baltimore in 2005 and spent the last five seasons with the Browns. He appeared in 39 games with 34 starts during that time and completed 587 of 1,109 passes for 7,083 yards with 46 touchdowns and 45 interceptions.
“I want to thank Derek for everything that he gave to the Cleveland Browns organization over the last five years,” said Browns Head Coach Eric Mangini. “He did everything we asked of him and it was a pleasure to coach such a competitive person. I want to wish him all the best in the future.”

Just want to send this one out for the last time… sniff…
Christmas comes early in Brownstown! No more watching Anderson fire the ball at a receiver’s feet, or 3 yards behind a receiver, or 5 yards over a receiver’s head, or “evading” the pass rush by running directly into a tackler.
If only Phil Savage had held firm in his belief that drafting Quinn in the first round was the right move and let Anderson sign with Dallas as a free agent after the 2007 season, thereby gaining draft picks. Oh well.
DP – DA with Toonce’s the driving cat would have been more appropriate know? 😉

Play on words – ten pins, bowling, you know, Riviera Lanes, “Brunswick,” beer.
boogeyman
don’t go slipping in anti-Boobie stuff on a Browns post
@Titus –

Now we just get to watch BRADY QUINN do it! YAY!!! Well, ‘cept for the 5 yard overthrows. Lord knows THOSE won’t happen…
…giggle.
@jack- That went completely over my head… Derek Anderson may be the next Norm Duke.
@stin4u- It’s nice to meet my competitor. lol. We will have some interesting conversations over the next 50 some odd days and the next 3 years. lol. I wish you well, but I know you’re wrong. lol. All in good fun.
@DP- Best. Photoshop. Ever.
I’m gonna miss that one.
@Matt#2 The comparisons are absolutely justifiable sorry to break it to you.
@Denny, #30. Exactly.
On a side note… Ironically 2007 is one of the worst things that could have happened to this franchise. Talk about lightning in a bottle.
Anyone think there’s still a chance we ship Quinn off somewhere for some picks, and draft a rookie in the 2nd-3rd round to develop behind Wallace?
MAYBE WE SHOULD DRAFT DAN LEFEVOUR JUST SAYIN…DONT KNOW IF ANYONE KNOWS ABOUT HIM YET….
/sarcasm
I was told there would be cake.
“Anyone think there’s still a chance we ship Quinn off somewhere for some picks, and draft a rookie in the 2nd-3rd round to develop behind Wallace?”
I wouldn’t count it out.
boogey
I like what (little) I’ve seen of Boobie this year. I hope I’m not mooning over the Pistons series.
Scotty- I doubt the Browns trade Quinn. I still feel comfortable that the Browns will draft a QB in the mid rounds. Again my list of possible QBs are Pike 4th-5th, Tebow 3rd, and Lefevour 4th-5th. holmgren likes senior QBs. And he likes to draft his senior QBs in the mid rounds. I expect him to draft a successor and mold him into his offense behind Wallace. Then possibly trade Brady after this year if Brady proves he has any trade value.
What about Locker? Or Mallett?
@ DP – unsigned rookie contracts cannot be terminated until said rookies have been signed. Locker is currently holding out, and Mallett just flew over the check out Hamburg. Mumbled something about NFL Europe.
@59 Nope unfortunately for the Quinn haters I think he’s here for at least a season more.
@63 LoL please stop mooning me thank you!
Scotty @ 59
Some folks think that’s crazy. But I’d be surprised if the front office were not mindful of that option.
No No No you guys are all wrong………
DRAFT GREG PAULUS
He’s a senior and he can run the point for the cavs if delonte goes to jail.
END OF DISCUSSION
boogey
Yeah, baby, it’s all boobies and moonings from here on out.
That had to be #69 huh…Hey Cleveland can save money with Paulus in two sports and you LeBron could always be signed too?
@70 I’m down or up for at least the first half of your comment! Speaking of which where are the female WFNYers?
To get back on topic before things degrade further…maybe Ben Roethlesberger will be available that is if he’s not quarterbacking the penal team. Oh the irony. So much for getting back on topic…man I’m like LeBron verse the Pistons here or maybe like that quarter against the Bucks…
Will Ben be remembered more fondly than Vick?
Does Vick like our colors?
I am giving myself the hook.
adios.
@73 No but Vick likes the Dog Pound!!!
lol
I was one of those fans who thought he should have been traded after 2007, and I wasn’t the only one. He showed his true colors in the Bengals game that kept us out of the playoffs that year. Just a few years earlier we had experienced the same ordeal with Kelly Holcomb: a backup gets a chance to start due to an injury and has a few big games so we declare him the starter. After some film is collected on these guys the league adjusts and they just don’t have the talent to overcome that. Maybe things would have gone differently if B.Edwards didn’t have a few key drops to start 2008, but I don’t think so.
Never again shall ye frustrate. Ye shall find someone else to overthrow or underthrow. I shall rejoice. Shall shall shall
Yup.
I will miss D.A. … Always a staunch supporter, even became a Brady hater by osmosis. We will miss thee number 3, thanks for 2007 and the giants game.
Thank God! I’m sure DA is a nice enough guy, but for those who say he was a pro-bowler – don’t forget who he had around him that year. Kellen Winslow and Braylon Edwards played OUT OF THEIR MINDS that season. They were acrobats who could catch anything in their vicinity. I could have been a pro-bowl quarterback on the Browns in 2007. There was only one requirement: throw the ball somewhere!
While they are at it, the Browns have to get rid of Brady Quinn and pick up Troy Smith.
Is it just me, or does boogeymans’ avatar creep you out, or just creep you out.
/just sayin
JJ- I’m there with you.. It’s something about the eyes and the mouth. IDK the lips seem like there’s no blood flow and I can just imagine the teeth being full of cavities.
After reading DA’s comments about the fans, I for one am glad that the Browns got rid of the one guy on the team who wore his IQ as his uniform number.
There’ll be plenty more on this tmw, collison – but the guy in my opinion has every right to be bitter. Tell me that you honestly wouldn’t be if people cheered you off a field with a torn knee ligament.
Wow isn’t #80 creative, NOT!
@87 Oh great what is this Tim Couch crying part 2? And people thought Braylon Edwards was a baby.
I figured it out boogeyman is Isis!
Hey I can’t figure out how to send tips to you guys… I guess I’m ‘computer savvy’ but read this. I don’t think DA is going to miss Cleveland.

P.S. someone needs to tell him that the Arena League doesn’t play teams in the NFL…. No chance at redemption tossing the ‘skin for the Philadelphia Soul! HAHA
Matty is on to something…the biggest irony…he comes back to play for Cleveland in the Arena League
@ MattyFos – send things to: Tips@waitingfornextyear.com
Denny- by normal email? I tried using the tips link on the homepage here at WFNY and they asked a lot of questions I was not prepared to answer…
