NBA Injury News: Antawn Jamison is a Game Time Decision

Hornets Cavaliers BasketballAntawn Jamison was forced to sit out the final minutes of Monday’s win over the San Antonio Spurs thanks to discomfort in his knee.  And after having a few days rest, the newly acquired power forward is upbeat about his chances to get back on the floor for tomorrow’s game in Philadelphia against the 76ers.

“It’s something that occurred earlier in the season,” Jamison said. “With proper treatment, it went away.”

Given Jamison’s age, the knee issue – especially if it is recurring - can  be concerning.  The Cavaliers will likely take the precautionary steps to ensure full recovery.

Listed as a game-time decision for the game, Jamison will have to convince coach Mike Brown that he is 100 percent.  Brown recently faced the tough decision of keeping LeBron James inactive after the forward tweaked his ankle in last week’s game against the Detroit Pistons.  Brown had stated that James would have to do a lot of convincing to dress in the Spurs contest, something that obviously did not occur.

Despite the already depleated front court thanks to the injury to Shaquille O’Neal and the trade of Zydrunas Ilgauskas, it would not surprise us if Brown opted to err on the safe side with the 33-year old Jamison.  James is due back after a week of rest, and his versatility to allow Brown to play No. 23 at the power forward slot if the team opts for a small lineup.

In order to ensure that his players are healthy come playoff time, Brown has been resting many of his more-active players during practice sessions.  Jamison and James joined Anderson Varejao, Anthony Parker and Mo Williams on the sidelines this week while the team geared up a stint of four games in the next six days.

Barring any setbacks, Jamison should be active for Sunday’s afternoon contest with the Boston Celtics.

Speaking of Boston, they got romped by Memphis last night. I love it.

Might as well hold him out tomorrow. With Lebron returning we don’t really need Jamison to beat the 76ers.

Mike Brown: just say no. He was forced to play serious minutes for the Wiz just before the trade, and it’s the perfect time to shut it down for a few days. Have one of LeBron’s gofers take the battery out of is car before the plane to Philly leaves.

No sense in rushing Jamison back. The Cavs didn’t trade for him to beat the Sixers. His health come playoff time is what metters.

Feel the same way Lloyd. Let him get his rest in and let’s go whoop the Celtics Sunday. We probably won’t need him tomorrow, especially if LBJ is back.

This is a really standard sentiment, but I love the way he’s been playing, and I can’t wait for him to get back in the line-up.

Totally unrelated, but the “You Might Also Like:” section is showing me a picture of Shawn Kemp…just a reminder of how great it is to be a Cavs fan right now…and how NOT great it was to be one about a decade ago.

I now have a newly boosted appreciation for the LeBron era. Thanks WFNY!!!

@ 6 – Totally agree. Jamison has been great so far. His first performance was horrendous, but he’s been great ever since.

Not a doctor so I don’t know but does rest help a cyst? Regardless if like others have said LeBron can be held out I can’t see why Jamison can’t miss tomorrow against the lowly 76ers if anything Sunday’s game against Boston on national TV would seem to be the more important game, if Jamison can play of course. I’d like to see the Cavaliers stick the dagger in the Celtics!

Based upon the crappy ownership and front office with the LA Clippers, I doubt if LeBron will be go there. But hey, there’s still hope for NY.

I say rest Lebron too! Why risk hurting the MVP right now? Tonight is the perfect night to give Lebron our younger guys some time on the floor. We don’t need this win
