While We’re Waiting… Jimmy Clausen, NFL Draft, NBA Numbers and Playoffs?!?
April 17, 2010Indians 6, White Sox 2: How to Not Let Your Bullpen Lose The Game
April 17, 2010In one of the stranger stories of the year, the above poster will not be going up this weekend as previously planned by RealCavsFans.com. The news broke from site owner Glen Infante during the day Friday detailing how the Commissioner of Building’s for the City of Cleveland made the surprise decision to reject the banner.
Created by fans and supported by them too, the awesome proposed LeBron2010 banner was supposed to help the “Keep LeBron James in Cleveland” process. Brian Windhorst even showed some sympathy for the site and the situation on his Twitter as it doesn’t really make much at all sense to me. There is a chance that Mayor Frank Jackson could override the Commissioner’s decision, but even such a decision might not occur for days or weeks.
Credit goes to Glen and the rest of RCF. Will be interesting to see how the rest of the process plays out and if any sort of intervention occurs from the mayor himself. The posters as well seem pretty civil and I’m pretty sure the fans meant no ill will toward the team. Update info below the jump…
Update: As seen in the title change and in the comments below, the city of Cleveland has now accepted the proposal for the banner. Not sure what prompted the switch but stay tuned here and around the web for more information. It should be up there sometime in the near future folks.

Whaaa? Did the Commissioner give a reason for the decision?
1) @Jacob – What do you mean? “Meant no ill will towards the team?” How could they have meant ill will?
2) I don’t like the slogan at all. Makes it seem like an order/imperative/foregone conclusion.
3) I think, Cleveland will always appreciate you more angle is the better one…
Alas.
There may well be a reason of some sorts, but on the face of it, this deserves an honorable mention for a 2009-2010 Dork Award behind the hands-down winner, which still sits with Mike Brown for sitting Z for no good reason during the entire game of his Cal Ripken Jr. moment.
As much as I’m not a big fan of the billboard initiatives in general (I think mainly I was completely turned off by the idea of a Pay Josh Cribbs billboard), it really is completely frivolous for the commissioner to reject the banner.
It is clear he wants LeBron to leave.
I think the banner is kinda pathetic groveling, the great artwork notwithstanding.
That said, it’s clear that the people in charge of putting the banner up merely didn’t grease the right Cuyahoga county officials with the requisite bribes and kickbacks in this pay to play town. Shame.
Core up shin.
This is off topic, but I do hope that “X-factor” gets retired from the English language very soon. It belongs on Matt Groening’s “Forbidden words” list for 2010. I say this to commend all WFNY writers for not evoking this imbecile phrase in attempt to prop up a playoff preview and lend it an air of sophistication. Let the likes of Kenny Smith indulge in “X-factors.” The word is clearly not intended for grown men.
I’ve always said that Phil M is the x-factor among commenters here at WFNY
Per a couple of RCF updates, it looks like the thing got approved:
“Now that the city has agreed to count the dimpled chads and allow the billboard we can concentrate on talking Cavs’ basketball.” @realcavsfans
“We just got approved on a temporary basis! Details coming but now we must find a new installer. Our previous installer cancelled.” @GlenInfante
@2 The slogan is directed at outsiders I believe, sometimes it feels like everyone is trying to rip LBJ from us.
There is no reason for this billboard to be rejected. Just another example of how difficult it is to get anything built or started in downtown Cleveland. Stupid politicians getting in the way.
They will just have to go with plan B, the RELEASE THE SHAQKEN billboard.
Good news, and timely.
B-Bo: lol.
I’m not too wild about this banner. The sentiment is nice, I guess, but it does seem a little too self-assured. Maybe hang it up once he re-signs? Also, it took me a minute to realize LeBron was not trying to get past Kobe and CP3, but is merely wrestling with past incarnations of himself. What? This design seems art school at best.
this is so sad of cleveland fans to suck on lebrons [WFNY Edit: man parts?]
he is just an athlete, just relax
