Can I Have a Do-Over?
June 9, 2010Aerodynamics: Catching up with the Double-A Akron Aeros 6/9/10
June 9, 2010Sources close to WFNY have informed us that Tom Izzo has told his players at Michigan State that he plans on taking the Cavaliers job. Our sources have heard directly from players on the MSU team that Izzo informed them this week that he is planning on making the move up to the NBA level under the ownership of MSU grad Dan Gilbert. We have also heard from a separate source that Izzo is holding off on announcing this until the end of the week, when his kids finish up school in the Lansing area. While Izzo could always change his mind, we are comfortable reporting that he has in fact informed his players at Michigan State that he will be taking the Cavaliers job.
More details as we get them.
Update from Rick: We have three separate confirmations. Nobody at WFNY expects Izzo to announce a press conference immediately in response to this. He has his timing. We will stand by the story and wait it out.

@triv: we’ve all seen bogus blogs. we know the sites looking for hits. you take with a grain of salt.
the regulars here will tell you what i’m about to: the wfny crew errs on the side of caution. the easy example is that the delonte/gloriajames stuff was only acknowledged as a web phenomenon a day or two after it broke. there’s no doubt wfny saw that story at the start and passed on it. the point is that the reporting/commentary has always been responsible. no mariottis here.
btw, one can refute the wfny report on the grounds that ‘the group’ didn’t hear what was reported. but that leaves open a possibility that other conversations happened. ok?
from your post, i get that you would make the same case against attention-seeking buffoons who get paid (eg, the ‘around the horn’ crew). so i get that you’re not dismissing because this is ‘a blog.’
just keep your mind open that wfny has it right. keep your mind open that ‘beat’ reporters need to live with guys and so can’t report everything they hear. who knows how wfny got this, but …
i’m mean look at rick’s avatar. did david wells ever lie about anything?
[…] today, we broke the news that Tom Izzo told his team he is going to take the Cavaliers’ coaching job. We have since been bandied about as ’some blog’, had our credibility denounced, and […]
Your “breaking news” has been verified as nonsense. Media here in Michigan says that he has not made a decision. Start acting responsibly and if you are going to report, CHECK YOUR FACTS.
lol @ jack
i was thinking the same thing
Tom Izzo
tasteless storytelling, Truth will out.
All WFNY has to do here is publicly say: “At this time, our sources appear to be incorrect according to actually reputable news agencies reporting that Byron Scott is in fact ALSO interviewing for the coaching position Thursday.”
I mean seriously, if you were gonna claim this then you should have gone all in and said that LeBron was expected to resign Friday as well because I assure you, with the crap surrounding LeBron on this team (I refer to players), there is no way Izzo makes the jump without him.
This is a great business decision, I am sure your servers have never seen this kind of traffic, you probably reached a new audience of Cleveland fans who didn’t know you existed. However, this is bush league at best and we should all expect nothing less than a written apology to Coach Izzo after Byron Scott takes this job.
Gilbert is like a kid shopping with his mom right now. He saw this shiny thing that he just had to have. There were no imperfections in his eyes. Then, his mom chimes in (i.e. everyone else in his organization) and tells him that this other toy over here is a lot more sensible. Some whining takes place but in the end he agrees with his mother because mother knows best.
Even if you were trying to be sincere, by publishing this article you effectively are saying that everyone who spoke PUBLICLY about the meeting and said this in fact DID NOT happen are liars.
LeBron James even called CP3 about what it was like playing for Scott. I mean c’mon, when are you gonna just publicly state that your sources may in fact be completely full of it. I bet you’re hoping that Izzo does get hired and in the press conference Gilbert refers to your bogus article by saying that contrary to other reports this only happened yesterday. I’m sure you will loop that video on your main site for years to come.
This is a joke and it’s time you admitted to it.
You’re standing by a story that’s wrong. He didn’t tell the players he’s definitely leaving. While you clearly hope he’s coming, this ‘scoop’ is poop…
Sebass is an angry little dwarf.
This is pretty entertaining, petty but entertaining. Amazing how “people” take this so stuff so Seriously. The MSU community is reacting much the same as the LeBron James people who want him to stay, kind of ironic huh? I’m hoping the cash doesn’t sway Izzo because I don’t see a first year NBA coach as being the answer. Or at least bigger benefit then retaining Mike Brown.
Great Job Guys! As a loyal daily reader I stand behind you 100% right or wrong I believe you were told what you reported. I also know that you will never put up an unconfirmed report. I am glad to know you guys have sources. I come here more for your well informed opinions then anything else because like most of your readers we respect the job you guys do. I am confident when all this plays out you will be vindicated. Whether those trashing you admit it or not.
detroit – Does that smell better or worse than unemployed auto workers? ALL YOUR COACHES ARE BELONG TO US!

Izzo in cleveland will only increase the number of Ohio prospects considering MSU. If they can compete with the Michigan/Wisky kids we have been pulling in the last few years.
We all know by now that this story is fabricated, but as a die hard MSU fan, and an even bigger fan of Tom Izzo, I hope he takes the job.
Its amazing, I didn’t think anyone loved the lime-light more then James. Make up your damn mind already.

Wow good job on this one. FAIL
So how did that work out?
Oops
So …. nice sources you got there.
I would call you a bad journalist, but that would acknowledge that you actually are a journalist…
Izzo wasn’t very nice to bloggers in his press conference. Way to set the blogging scene back a few years.
Hahahahahahahahaha….
Nice ‘sources’ tools…..
Btw, just to reiterate…
