Danny Ferry Fills Out Roster
Well, we all thought that Danny Ferry was now done with this year’s roster after the re-signing of Delonte West last week, but evidently we were wrong. The Cavaliers are expected to sign SF Ronald Dupree, as per HoopsHype,
“Ronald Dupree, who will go in history as the last player inked by the Seattle SuperSonics, will be signed by the Cleveland Cavaliers.”
Not that this is anything Cavs fans should jump up and down about. Dupree, at 6′7″ and 208 lbs is a slashing player who cannot hit a jump shot to save his life, but what he is, though, is a very tough defender and a quick, athletic player. He’s also actually a very efficient rebounder on a per minute basis. I wouldn’t expect to see him get on the court much this year, but he could potentially be used as a defensive sub in situational spots where the Cavaliers need to get a stop.
The interesting thing about this signing is that it puts the Cavs roster now at 16, one over the league max:
- Mo Williams
- Wally Szczerbiak
- LeBron James
- Ben Wallace
- Zydrunas Ilgauskas
- Delonte West
- Anderson Varejao
- Daniel Gibson
- J.J. Hickson
- Tarence Kinsey
- Sasha Pavlovic
- Lorenzen Wright
- Darnell Jackson
- Eric Snow
- Lance Allred
- Ronald Dupree
Eric Snow is definitely going to retire, but the question will be when that decision is finalized and when the Cavs can get him off the books. There are advantages to having him on the inactive roster as his expiring contract can be used to possibly facilitate a trade deadline deal. More likely, this will probably mean the official end of Lance Allred with the Cavaliers, as Scott mentioned a while back.

Eric Snow is retiring to take a spot on the coaching staff…. of the Cleveland Browns. He will ensure Phil Dawson is ready to enter the game at all times to kill touchdown drives.
Seriously, Snow’s contract is very valuable and I think it’d be better to keep him on the 15-man and one of the inactives, the package that with Wally’s in our TBA “big midseason move”. Kind of how Otis Thorpe’s contract has floated around. Not like he has to show up for practice or anything….

Not to mention Keith Van Horn last year. That one verged on fraudulent.

Keep Snow on the roster. A $7 million expiring contract is extremely valuable.

Pardon my lack of knowledge with this, but if we send someone to the Bayhawks, does he count towards our 15?

my question might be the same as scott’s. i would think that darnell jackson would be seeing alot of time down in the NBDL. if thats so, does he count in the roster-15? i would think not but i dont know.

Your 15 man roster, as I understand it, consists of 12 actives, 1 inactive, and 2 D-Leaguers.

I’m pretty sure all 3 of your guys NOT on the 12-man roster can go down to the D-League if the team wishes. It depends on how many guys they want up on the team.

Well, the CBA says that you always have to have a player on your inactive list. Now, can that inactive guy still play in the D-League? I don’t know the answer to that one.

i thought we didnt resign allred or something…

No, Allred is signed to a non-guaranteed contract….which means he’ll be the first one to go if the Cavs are over the roster limit.

Germaine Dupree? I thought he was a rapper…

6′7″ 208? Can the word ‘tough’ be used when describing such a lanky individual and defense? How about relentless, pestering, or tenacious?
Is he essentially here to harass small outside shooters? Is this guy pretty much here to play some perimeter D if Mo Williams doesn’t get on board with the Mike Brown way of life?
