I’m not quite sure what to write any more. You may (or may not) have noticed, but I switched up the logo at the header of the Open Thread. Typically, we use the Browns helmet as their logo. Being a bit superstitious, I changed it up to the old Brownie the Elf – perhaps that helps us out? We need anything we can get at this point.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen said that the Browns will likely use a conservative offense, featuring a lot of the run to help take pressure off of Derek Anderson. Frankly, we just need offense, so I’ll take it. Cincy isn’t exactly the best at stopping the run, so hopefully we can attack them from all sides. And while he isn’t in the injury report, Anderson himself is now listed with a forearm injury. Could this just be a way to ease Brady Quinn into the picture without saying that D.A. has been demoted? If you purchased a Donte Stallworth jersey this year, hopefully you got it for 25 percent off, as he will officially miss a quarter of the season. And the thought of us possibly having to start Shantee Orr and Alex Hall on the outsides makes me shudder.
Palmer is apparently a game-time decision, so keep an eye out for this one.
As always, feel free to follow along in the comments. Someone has to win – why not us? Go Browns…

Still rooting…still hoping…Go Browns
palmer out, fitzpatrick in
Palmer being out is just going to make it that much worse when the Browns lose.
Just watching to see how many running plays they do. Jamal Lewis should have 57 carries today.
Have we thrown the ball yet? I stepped into the kitchen for a sec but I am pretty sure we just ran the ball on every down to get a FG.
Yup… ran on every play.
Jamal Lewis is a freaking beast
Anderson looks lost out there
Anderson still doesn’t look good, but he isn’t killing them yet.
You can tell that it isnt all Anderson’s fault though. Braylon has yet to get any separation from Cincy’s defense. Anderson isnt making the best decisions but he is throwing to winslow and our 4th and 5th recievers.
Were Sanders and Anderson arguing? It looked like some coaches were separating them….
I swear, our defensive playbook looks about as imaginative as a Madden playbook.
Good, lets get all the players fired up on the side line and then take it out on the Bungles.
Just for the sake of argument, wouldn’t have Quinn had more reps with a B-team receivers?
Sam is correct. Sanders just stopped and let the ball go past him without even trying to catch it. Then it looked like his reason was I thought the person behind me was going across and it was for him.
At this point I’d like to see them try Cribbs just going deep and Anderson airing it out.
If we played a drinking game with nothing but dropped passes, we’d all be hammered by now.
Yeah the “b-team” recievers were the ones I saw Quinn throwing to the most in training camp and I would assume that has been the same in practice too.
Not to mention that our healthy recievers arent deep threats. They need more short and accurate throws to be successful. Not exactly an area Anderson is good at.
in the middle of the second quarter, and two passing yards, is it time to sent in Quinn yet?
WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THESE ENCROACHMENTS? CAN’T WE STAY ON OUR SIDE OF THE BALL?
If Adams didnt trip on himself he could have taken that all the way!
I am with Whipjacka.. all they have to do is put their hands behind the ball. Stay back dummies. Needless penalties.
Nice job using Harrison so far. The only thing we haven’t seen is anything in the passing game. Maybe DA can run the option like Nebraska.
Lewis is now the high receiver for the browns
Throw it in the AIR… NOOOOOOO.
Unreal. That pass wouldve went for another 15 yards…
Why does this look like a pre-season game?
GREAT pick by Wright. Terrible return….now they get a first down. Ugh.
Oh Eric…finally some good luck for our secondary and boom!
Easy E should be embarrassed.
that pretty much sums up our entire season right there
Just our luck, excuse me while i go off to the bathroom to get sick.
Cincy can’t a first down, so the browns decided to help them out a little bit.
Alright… DA hasn’t hurt them necessarily. Maybe some opportunity costs. Do you guys bring in Brady Quinn to start the second half? DA and the passing game are nonexistent. K2 must be ticked.
So, what do you guys do? Keep letting DA try, or bring in Quinn?
Wimbley had that sack fall into his lap… I guess it’s a start
@Craig: Frankly, I dont care about the passing game. If they can keep running JL and change it up with Harrison or two TE sets, lets do it. To me, the fewer throws we have Anderson make, the better at this point…
I would still like to see lewis get more touches. he has only had five or six runs since the first drive
Look folks, the reason DA is in is because Cincy is a PATHETIC team and Romeo thought he could put him in and get some good reps in there and restore his confidence like we had happen last year.
Yea, Cincy played the Giants well last week but we’re not seeing it this week. DA has done nothing worth mentioning and clearly is still completely shaken. I’d say the plan has not succeeded, bring in Quinn and get DA to a self-help seminar stat.
I say we come out the 2nd half with Quinn at the helm. Pound the ball to begin with like we did to start the game and then take advantage of Palmer not being in the game finally.
3-6 wow
He hits Heiden with that pass, and it’s a totally different game. Well, perhaps one that is tied…
@ Scotty
we aren’t going to pound the ball because Romeo’s half-time adjustments include dropping the run game
@Whipjacka
at least he makes adjustments. Hrrrmmmm…. well, never mind.
I can only listen to the game on radio out here in California.
One of the announcers called DA “Ken” Anderson.
And Don Fouts said the Browns “wished” they had Ken Anderson. Got a big laugh.
I’ve finally, finally been swayed. Brady after the Bye…if we win today maybe we can finish 7-9…
Someone should tell Marvin Lewis that even if he is right on this challenge it isn’t a good one. You need to use it on a bigger scenario or keep it in your pocket for later.
Great field position to start the drive. Great play to Steptoe. Then throw a pick. Great work, DA.
How in the world are we down 6-3 at halftime with Fitzpatrick at the helm for Cincy and two turnovers from our defense? I had the game on my Gamecast and can’t watch it, but that is just pathetic.
ENOUGH… I couldn’t even muster up a curse word after that. You know why? I didn’t expect anything else. I can’t handle this offensive impotency.
Oh, and now a pick by D.A. so obviously RAC didn’t agree with the bring in Brady ideas. Damn!
What an AWFUL throw by Anderson. Get him OUT OF THERE!
so can we sign Fitzpatrick?
phenomenal special teams by… cincy.
I think we needed Brady to start this game. Once we get Braylon playing better football and Stallworth back DA would be the better option. Brady makes average players better while DA is made better by excellent players.
Queue up another Anderson pick while we’re backed up…
the NCIS girl looks like a vampire.
“a gross, english, titty vampire”
“you just described the perfect woman”
Punchlon Edwards. Droplon Edwards. Cutlon Edwards.
what is edwards doing?
I hate this team right now.
i am one of the 3 people that can use mental telepathy to track packages.
Can we get Bowling Green to play for us? They might muster some offense…
I wonder if Stallworth is ever gonna play for the Browns…
Hey Romeo, it’s ok to sub in players who aren’t running backs
Can’t these a-holes see the giant blue line?
Louis Leonard is cut… nobody gets two meaningless offsides in one game. Just ridiculous.
3rd & 25… i smell a conversion.
leaving Terry Cousin stuck in his tracks. Nice.
we don’t tackle well, we don’t catch well, basically we lack the fundamentals…great coaching job Romeo
DA still in…
Hey I saw a completion!!!
Which Cleveland Browns QB will be on the field for the last CLE offensive drive of the game?
1. Derek Anderson
2. Brady Quinn
3. Ken Dorsey
4. Josh Cribbs
5. Bernie Kosar
I sure hope that there are not any other markets that are forced to watch this nonsense
The radio announcer just said the Browns handed off to Jamal Anderson.
DA is averaging an amazing 3.5 yards per pass attempt. No wonder we are behind. How much longer before the coaches realize this must be the real DA?
DC is watching it apparently
saved by the pack of Zebras
could this get worse?
Flag saved that interception…
38 yards passing…yet Brady is still standing on the sideline looking Emo
This season is more disappointing than any other season since they got back. I guess that teaches me to get my hopes up about anything. Two or three times a year I jet excited about something, and I inevitably get disappointed.
Dan Fouts:
“I know this is supposed to be the battle of Ohio but its more like the battle of dumb and dumber.”
is that…
no
but it looks like
the RED ZONE??
On a side note, anyone see the new bad call by Ed Holuchi that killed the Panthers a few mins ago?
I now have 2 points from Winslow on my fantasy team! I just hope it is he or Braylon that scores for us this drive and not Dawson.
whipjacka:
“two or three times a year i get excited about something, and I inevitably get disappointed.”
[insert website tagline]
lewis can catch with one hand, our receivers can’t with two
Hip Hip…….
as long as we get 6 here, i dont care who it is…
bright spot:
cincy has 0 timeouts w/ 13 and change left in the 4th
@Scott:
how about 7?
UM on UM there….
YES!!!!
whew!
That was some terrible air guitar.
All right! Edwards caught a ball!
Braylon caught something??!?!
see, that’s Edward’s problem, he can catch the hard ones, but straight up normal passes, nada
air guitar extraordinaire
he’s been waiting 3 whole games to play air guitar hero.
That may be the problem Maximus…too much Rock Band, not enough practice
Oh man, someone please describe the air guitar — more eddie van halen or angus young?
maybe he should just try handing the ball to the ref next time, since he hasn’t showed up until then….he’s a piece of crap
Who are these guys??
fumble recovery…..followed up by a pick on the next play
a +1 turnover ratio. that’s unheard of.
Adams with a pick and a FR – nice hit by… 56?
Top and Bottom hands moving like both are bottom hands….so think a down syndrome Steve Perry
K2 to the 4! where did this come from?
ball on ground…
Wow, I hope jamal scores and gives us some keith moon
a double digit lead!
WOOOOOOOOO fantasy points…finally
14 points in the last 1:59 – eclipsing every other game we’ve played.
14 unanswered points… these guys look like a different team all of a sudden…
Edwards scored…and now we believe…wait…are we going to actually start playing like a football team?
can we petition Goodell to let us play Cincy 12 more times?
without Palmer, of course.
You know those things that the Browns do when the Refs put both hands in the air and the scoreboard gives them 6 points? What are those things? I feel like I have never seen then before.
#111 woo!
that’s a double field goal.
how come their 5′8″ guy made our 5′8″ guy look like a high school kid?
Can we pick off another pass? This is Ryan Fitzgerald for crying out loud
when Ocho Cinco doesn’t do an endzone celebration, Braylon should take some notes.
Wow, everyone is catching their first touchdown pass of the year…how bout me, throw it to me, I don’t have one this year either
Did anyone see Fitzpatrick point out the blitz to his lone running back? I wonder if the Browns were thinking run after that. Sheesh. Harvard boy is a dummy.
Cribbs time… the Browns need to keep the pressure on and try and mount another successful drive… running the clock won’t be enough. Winning teams don’t just run the clock.
in bounds = clock runs
out of bounds = clock stops
these guys know this, right?
man, am i glad CIN used all of those timeouts frivolously…
HUUUUUUUGE
Maybe they think the new college rules are in effect in the NFL too?
“justin Fanene”
as the graphic says Jonathon.
WOW! Romeo just showed emotion!
i think stupified is an emotion…
Dawson looks pissed
The wife just summed up this game perfectly.
Football, ur doin it rong
Oh dear christ, I thought we got rid of the prevent defense when we fired Todd
le FUMBLE!!!
Alex Hall, ladies and Gentlemen
Alex f-bombing Hall FTW
turn over baby
That wouldn’t have been overturned, but Marvin Lewis would have been well-suited to try and have that deemed a forward pass with a review. Can’t believe how badly Cincy botched their time outs.
barring a huge mistake, this is over.
is this win a victory for DA and the Browns? do we still see Brady after the bye?
Alex Hall, the best seventh round draft pick in the NFL this year
they should bounce lewis out to the outside more often
DAs second half may have earned him another start…. I’m sure he’s looking forward to playing the Giants
Nothing like getting crushed by Rogers when the game is already out of reach…
Hopefully this game gave DA and Braylon the confidence they needed. We will find out in two weeks!
[victory shot]
been waiting for that.
I should have picked the browns in the survivor poll, but i wasn’t confident enough
Nice comeback for DA. Unfortunately this means he’ll start again and Romeo keeps his job.
Was it worth the victory?
No.
Yeah Pati I was just thinking the same thing. I am glad we won, but now I am worried this means RAC keeps his job and DA is still the starter. If they had lost to the Cincy’s backup it was definitely over for both of them. Maybe this just delays the inevitable.
WIN # 1 HOORAY!
Finally, Browns WIN!!!!
We may have pulled out the win, but Cincy gets the higher draft pick.
@140: I think Braylon could stand to lose some confidence honestly
Surpising win. Defense stepped up. Braylon caugt one finally. Jamal, man why can’t we rush anymore? Cribbs is like a ghost on kick returns…so I’m really hoping…this carries over to the Giants, we get healthy over the buy week, and actually perform. I still want Romeo fired.
fire romeo, start brady and maybe i watch…
Before we get too excited, remember:
We played the terrible Bengals, who ran with a backup QB nobody has ever heard of. And we barely beat them.
Romeo still needs to go.
One of the ugliest wins you’ll ever see. I still thought the coaching was miserable – Brady should have been in there to start the second half, or at the very least after the DA pick. I don’t care if DA somewhat redeemed himself, he’s not the answer, and Brady would have been perfect for the offense they were running against this pathetic Bungle defense. I also thought Romeo should have kicked a field goal on the second to last drive instead of punting (which gave the Bengals the ball on the 20 when Zastudil put it in the endzone).
As a general matter, I thought the bulk of the team, except Hall, Wimbley, D. Jackson, Winslow and Lewis played without passion and with their heads up their ass. That’s on the coaches.
And one more thing… Braylon Edwards needs to shut up, settle down, and just play football. He’s a talented player who clearly thinks too highly of himself given his numbers and performance thus far. He would earn a lot more respect just playing hard, smart and QUIETLY.
Nice job Browns…way to save Romeo’s job. Romeo should be so thankful we played the bengals or his coaching career with the Browns would be done.
We also will be so lucky to see DA throw a bunch of picks against the Giants in two weeks instead of watching Quinn develop. Woohoo. This win opens the door to holding off the new coach/QB jelling period until next year. I can hardly contain my excitement.
That was one of the worst football games I have ever seen.
