I’m not quite sure what to write any more.  You may (or may not) have noticed, but I switched up the logo at the header of the Open Thread.  Typically, we use the Browns helmet as their logo.  Being a bit superstitious, I changed it up to the old Brownie the Elf – perhaps that helps us out?  We need anything we can get at this point.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen said that the Browns will likely use a conservative offense, featuring a lot of the run to help take pressure off of Derek Anderson.  Frankly, we just need offense, so I’ll take it.  Cincy isn’t exactly the best at stopping the run, so hopefully we can attack them from all sides.  And while he isn’t in the injury report, Anderson himself is now listed with a forearm injury.  Could this just be a way to ease Brady Quinn into the picture without saying that D.A. has been demoted?  If you purchased a Donte Stallworth jersey this year, hopefully you got it for 25 percent off, as he will officially miss a quarter of the season.  And the thought of us possibly having to start Shantee Orr and Alex Hall on the outsides makes me shudder.

Palmer is apparently a game-time decision, so keep an eye out for this one.

As always, feel free to follow along in the comments.  Someone has to win – why not us?  Go Browns…

    palmer out, fitzpatrick in

  • Gregg
    3. September 28, 2008

Palmer being out is just going to make it that much worse when the Browns lose.

  • 4. September 28, 2008

Just watching to see how many running plays they do. Jamal Lewis should have 57 carries today.

  • SambofromOH
    5. September 28, 2008

Have we thrown the ball yet? I stepped into the kitchen for a sec but I am pretty sure we just ran the ball on every down to get a FG.

  • 6. September 28, 2008

    Yup… ran on every play.

  • whipjacka
    7. September 28, 2008

Jamal Lewis is a freaking beast

  • whipjacka
    8. September 28, 2008

    Anderson looks lost out there

  • 9. September 28, 2008

Anderson still doesn’t look good, but he isn’t killing them yet.

  • SambofromOH
    10. September 28, 2008

You can tell that it isnt all Anderson’s fault though. Braylon has yet to get any separation from Cincy’s defense. Anderson isnt making the best decisions but he is throwing to winslow and our 4th and 5th recievers.

  • 11. September 28, 2008

Were Sanders and Anderson arguing? It looked like some coaches were separating them….

  • 12. September 28, 2008

I swear, our defensive playbook looks about as imaginative as a Madden playbook.

  • Scotty P
    13. September 28, 2008

Good, lets get all the players fired up on the side line and then take it out on the Bungles.

  • Eli
    14. September 28, 2008

Just for the sake of argument, wouldn’t have Quinn had more reps with a B-team receivers?

  • 15. September 28, 2008

Sam is correct. Sanders just stopped and let the ball go past him without even trying to catch it. Then it looked like his reason was I thought the person behind me was going across and it was for him.

At this point I’d like to see them try Cribbs just going deep and Anderson airing it out.

  • 16. September 28, 2008

If we played a drinking game with nothing but dropped passes, we’d all be hammered by now.

  • SambofromOH
    17. September 28, 2008

Yeah the “b-team” recievers were the ones I saw Quinn throwing to the most in training camp and I would assume that has been the same in practice too.

Not to mention that our healthy recievers arent deep threats. They need more short and accurate throws to be successful. Not exactly an area Anderson is good at.

  • whipjacka
    18. September 28, 2008

in the middle of the second quarter, and two passing yards, is it time to sent in Quinn yet?

WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THESE ENCROACHMENTS? CAN’T WE STAY ON OUR SIDE OF THE BALL?

  • SambofromOH
    19. September 28, 2008

If Adams didnt trip on himself he could have taken that all the way!

  • 20. September 28, 2008

I am with Whipjacka.. all they have to do is put their hands behind the ball. Stay back dummies. Needless penalties.

  • 21. September 28, 2008

Nice job using Harrison so far. The only thing we haven’t seen is anything in the passing game. Maybe DA can run the option like Nebraska.

  • whipjacka
    22. September 28, 2008

Lewis is now the high receiver for the browns

  • 23. September 28, 2008

Throw it in the AIR… NOOOOOOO.

  • 24. September 28, 2008

Unreal. That pass wouldve went for another 15 yards…

  • 25. September 28, 2008

Why does this look like a pre-season game?

  • 26. September 28, 2008

GREAT pick by Wright. Terrible return….now they get a first down. Ugh.

  • Eli
    27. September 28, 2008

Oh Eric…finally some good luck for our secondary and boom!

  • 28. September 28, 2008

    Easy E should be embarrassed.

  • 29. September 28, 2008

that pretty much sums up our entire season right there

  • Scotty P
    30. September 28, 2008

Just our luck, excuse me while i go off to the bathroom to get sick.

  • whipjacka
    31. September 28, 2008

Cincy can’t a first down, so the browns decided to help them out a little bit.

  • 32. September 28, 2008

Alright… DA hasn’t hurt them necessarily. Maybe some opportunity costs. Do you guys bring in Brady Quinn to start the second half? DA and the passing game are nonexistent. K2 must be ticked.

So, what do you guys do? Keep letting DA try, or bring in Quinn?

  • 33. September 28, 2008

Wimbley had that sack fall into his lap… I guess it’s a start

  • 34. September 28, 2008

@Craig: Frankly, I dont care about the passing game. If they can keep running JL and change it up with Harrison or two TE sets, lets do it. To me, the fewer throws we have Anderson make, the better at this point…

  • whipjacka
    35. September 28, 2008

I would still like to see lewis get more touches. he has only had five or six runs since the first drive

  • Eli
    36. September 28, 2008

Look folks, the reason DA is in is because Cincy is a PATHETIC team and Romeo thought he could put him in and get some good reps in there and restore his confidence like we had happen last year.

Yea, Cincy played the Giants well last week but we’re not seeing it this week. DA has done nothing worth mentioning and clearly is still completely shaken. I’d say the plan has not succeeded, bring in Quinn and get DA to a self-help seminar stat.

  • Scotty P
    37. September 28, 2008

I say we come out the 2nd half with Quinn at the helm. Pound the ball to begin with like we did to start the game and then take advantage of Palmer not being in the game finally.

  • whipjacka
    38. September 28, 2008

    3-6 wow

  • 39. September 28, 2008

He hits Heiden with that pass, and it’s a totally different game. Well, perhaps one that is tied…

  • whipjacka
    40. September 28, 2008

    @ Scotty
we aren’t going to pound the ball because Romeo’s half-time adjustments include dropping the run game

  • 41. September 28, 2008

    @Whipjacka

at least he makes adjustments. Hrrrmmmm…. well, never mind.

  • Pat18970
    42. September 28, 2008

I can only listen to the game on radio out here in California.

One of the announcers called DA “Ken” Anderson.

And Don Fouts said the Browns “wished” they had Ken Anderson. Got a big laugh.

  • Bobby
    43. September 28, 2008

I’ve finally, finally been swayed. Brady after the Bye…if we win today maybe we can finish 7-9…

  • 44. September 28, 2008

Someone should tell Marvin Lewis that even if he is right on this challenge it isn’t a good one. You need to use it on a bigger scenario or keep it in your pocket for later.

  • 45. September 28, 2008

Great field position to start the drive. Great play to Steptoe. Then throw a pick. Great work, DA.

  • 46. September 28, 2008

How in the world are we down 6-3 at halftime with Fitzpatrick at the helm for Cincy and two turnovers from our defense? I had the game on my Gamecast and can’t watch it, but that is just pathetic.

  • 47. September 28, 2008

ENOUGH… I couldn’t even muster up a curse word after that. You know why? I didn’t expect anything else. I can’t handle this offensive impotency.

  • 48. September 28, 2008

Oh, and now a pick by D.A. so obviously RAC didn’t agree with the bring in Brady ideas. Damn!

  • Nick
    49. September 28, 2008

What an AWFUL throw by Anderson. Get him OUT OF THERE!

  • SambofromOH
    52. September 28, 2008

I think we needed Brady to start this game. Once we get Braylon playing better football and Stallworth back DA would be the better option. Brady makes average players better while DA is made better by excellent players.

    No.

  • 144. September 28, 2008

Yeah Pati I was just thinking the same thing. I am glad we won, but now I am worried this means RAC keeps his job and DA is still the starter. If they had lost to the Cincy’s backup it was definitely over for both of them. Maybe this just delays the inevitable.

We played the terrible Bengals, who ran with a backup QB nobody has ever heard of. And we barely beat them.

    Romeo still needs to go.

One of the ugliest wins you’ll ever see. I still thought the coaching was miserable – Brady should have been in there to start the second half, or at the very least after the DA pick. I don’t care if DA somewhat redeemed himself, he’s not the answer, and Brady would have been perfect for the offense they were running against this pathetic Bungle defense. I also thought Romeo should have kicked a field goal on the second to last drive instead of punting (which gave the Bengals the ball on the 20 when Zastudil put it in the endzone).

As a general matter, I thought the bulk of the team, except Hall, Wimbley, D. Jackson, Winslow and Lewis played without passion and with their heads up their ass. That’s on the coaches.

And one more thing… Braylon Edwards needs to shut up, settle down, and just play football. He’s a talented player who clearly thinks too highly of himself given his numbers and performance thus far. He would earn a lot more respect just playing hard, smart and QUIETLY.

Nice job Browns…way to save Romeo’s job. Romeo should be so thankful we played the bengals or his coaching career with the Browns would be done.

We also will be so lucky to see DA throw a bunch of picks against the Giants in two weeks instead of watching Quinn develop. Woohoo. This win opens the door to holding off the new coach/QB jelling period until next year. I can hardly contain my excitement.

That was one of the worst football games I have ever seen.
