Tigers Decline Jhonny Peralta’s Option, Sign Him For Two More Seasons
November 8, 2010Colt McCoy’s TD Run and Josh Cribbs’ Block
November 8, 2010Not to be outdone by back-to-back Cavs wins on the road and the Browns beating the Patriots, the Cleveland Indians have announced their updated uniforms for the 2011 MLB season.
In what will be the club’s 111th season as a member of the American League, the Indians will have two versions of a home uniform to go with two versions for the road.
The biggest addition, obviously, comes in the form of that bright red hat pictured above that will go with the old-school cream uniforms which the team rolled out in 2008. Also worth noting is that the road uni’s will now have a block style of “Cleveland” instead of the script style which the team has worn for years. The teams says that this change is paying homage to the block style they wore back in 1901 when the Indians became “charter members” of the American League.
Interestingly enough, the navy jersey pictured far left is considered the “alternate” kit for the upcoming season. Expect to see plenty of that grey uni with the block “C” cap. And purists, fear not. Regardless of whether or not Wahoo is displayed on the caps, he will be prominently featured on the left sleeve of all uniforms.
Now, about that third baseman…

I like them, there is a good mix of some of everything. I personally cant wait to get me one of those red hats.
I like them. I would have liked them to do the hat they wore when they did the inter-league series against the Nationals with the navy hat with the white block “C”. I’ve looked everywhere for that hat and can’t get it (fitted at least). However you can get the hat that the Nationals wore that game at the Indians Team Shop. #Tribetimenever
Pretty Awesome! I must say.
WHAT A GREAT LAST FEW DAYS!
egh. The red hat to me is hideous, I’d rather see plain blue. I like the new alternate road gray, kind of a throw back to the early 90’s.
Are we seeing more of the C hats to slowly phase out the chief?
Really like the new road uniform; I was never a big fan of the script Cleveland on the old one. Don’t know how I feel about the red block C hat, though that cream uniform they will wear with it is my favorite of the bunch – I’d support that as the full time home uniform. I already bought a fitted blue block C cap, which I think is the best of the 4 hats.
nvm didn’t read, the gray isn’t an alternate but I still like it!
“Are we seeing more of the C hats to slowly phase out the chief?”
you mean like the script-I hats to slowly phase out the chief?
fear not, as long as people buy the chief wahoo hats (and they do), then they will be available for sale.

I love those cream uni’s with the red hat. simple but elegant. nice.

current Tribe hats are:
red with blue script-I (wahoo on back)
1948 blue with ‘yellow’ wahoo
blue with standard wahoo (both my sons have the red-bill, but I went with the blue bill)
I’m thinking I might need to even it out with that red ‘C’ (though I’d really want wahoo on the back of it as well so I don’t have to tell people what team it is)
I didn’t put it in the post, but the team considers those cream unis to be “crème.” Ouí!
At least our marginally mediocre talent will look good this year.
Agreed @ 9! Btw not a fan of the red “C” on the red hat it just doesn’t look right but oh well.
All four sets are good-looking unis. My only gripe is that Chief Wahoo needs to be bigger on the caps. I’m not sure exactly when it happened, but it seems like the logo has shrunk since the mid-90s.
Love the red hat, it would compliment any of the uniform shirts. Lookin good in red for the tribe.
In other news, the Indians brass was able to cut costs by taking uniform material suggestions from old episodes of Seinfeld.
Nice uniforms, they might actually distract me from how bad they are… nope, nevermind.
dang, I really was hoping for one of those Padres camouflage jerseys or perhaps TCU’s frog-skinned pants
the red hat looks awful. i do like the block letter cleveland. i wish the creme jersey came in that color.
I always wanted a red hat, but now that I see it actualized, I’m not sure how I feel.
Also!
Good to see a little new uni news isn’t enough to distract people from making lame, ignorant comments about the talent level on the current team.
Is it just me or are the hats more of a true dark navy blue than they have been in recent years? I hope so… not a fan of the lighter blue color they’ve gone with since changing to the smaller chief wahoo on the hats.
Would be nice to have a team to put in those uniforms
@Nullster I saw this while shopping for the tribe’s 1921-36 hat. It’s the road version of the 1918 hat that they were wearing that day.

They also have the 1920 home hat, but it looks more like the block C font they are using now.
I will join the chorus of those of you who like them. If they were going to use a red hat, they found the perfect complement with that jersey. Not sure how it could’ve worked without it.
I also loved Scott’s intro:
“Not to be outdone by back-to-back Cavs wins on the road and the Browns beating the Patriots, the Cleveland Indians have announced their updated uniforms for the 2011 MLB season.”
Subtle… and perfect!
I’m native american and a lifelong Indians fan. I could never part with the Indians nickname, but if you ever stop and look objectively at chief wahoo… Not flattering.
5haun that hat is outstanding. I would be all over that hat. In fact, I could get behind a uniform of that design.
Not a fan of the Red or Navy Blue Block “C” hats, or the Road Gray script. I think they should have stuck to the Navy Blue “Indians”, White “Indians” and Grey “Cleveland” jerseys from the late 90’s, and used the cream as the home alternate.
I really like the new road unis. Red had, not so much. As someone said above, the chief needs to be bigger on the home and road alt hats. Also, the blue on those hats needs to be darker to match the rest of the uni.
@ post 11, you are correct! DiBiassio is the culprit here. He thought the WaHoo was too big on the caps and downsized it years back. He turned a great baseball cap into one that looks like a cheap dime store replica!
@22, What is wrong with a smiling wahoo? The Indians were named in honor of an Indian Louis Sockalexis. Don’t get me started on the garbage that is get rid of Chief Wahoo. I would like to see the red uniforms the Tribe used back in the mid 70’s.
The road grays are fantastic, particularly with the block C cap. Good looks all around, though the red cap is just terrible.
@crazycav: somewhere, at this very moment, Frowns is preparing a 4,000-word essay/leture for you. Be afraid.

I wish they would get rid of the blue tops. They’re OK when you see them in the store, but I’ve never liked it when they wear them.
Would like to see the team bring out the pinstripes from the very early ’70s as an alternate one year.
Not crazy about the new red hat and I don’t care for the blue one with the block C either. If you want to go retro, why not bring back a cap they wore years ago? Like the navy cap from the late 50’s with the C or the red cap from the 60’s with the navy C? I’d rather see the return of the crooked, Flintstone’s C from the 70’s.
Fave Tribe hat ever was the 1954 cap with Chief Wahoo tucked into the C.
How about we get the navy blue Wahoo hat to actually be NAVY BLUE!? You know like matching the block C blue and not that weak roayl blue that matches nothing else on any of the uniforms.
