Keeping an Eye on the Enemy…
October 13, 2008Open Thread: Browns vs Giants
October 13, 2008It appears that WFNY has been named “Best Sports Blog” in Cleveland Scene Magazine’s Best of Cleveland issue. On behalf of everyone at WFNY we want to thank our readers and the staff over at CleveScene for this honor. If you would like to see all of the winners you can read the issue magazine style here.
In case you are wondering what they had to say about our corner of the net, here are Vince’s comments-
Best Sports Blog- Waiting For Next Year
Running a sports blog is tougher than it sounds. Running a great sports blog is even harder, and in Cleveland, it’s a depressing endeavor. For most bloggers, there’s no pay, meaning every post is written around a full-time job, social life and family. Then there’s the matter of penning something meaningful – whether it’s funny or serious, or somewhere in between. The guys over at Waiting for Next Year succeed with style. The blog is updated frequently enough to constantly offer new content, and there’s a good mix of in depth analysis and lighter moments (recently, there was a lengthy look at the Browns misfortunes, accompanied by pictures of players with Lolcats-style captions). The bloggers provide coverage on the Tribe, Cavs, Browns, Ohio State and even the Blue Jackets, all in one convenient place. In addition to regular original content, WFNY also scours the web for the best/funniest Cleveland-related stories from around the country. We’re not sure which means more to the writers – being named Best Cleveland Sports Blog or getting name-checked by Terry Pluto in The Plain Dealer on more than one occasion. Either way, it’s a testament to the quality work they do in a competitive blog landscape that’s filled with more garbage than City View. – VG
Congrats also to Paul Cousineau of the DiaTribe who took the best Indians writer award despite being a ‘blogger’ and not from the mainstream media.

Big ups guys you’ve worked hard and deserve this. Congrats!
Cheers fellas. Well deserved.
Nice work, fellas.
Way to represent…keep up the great work.
i recommend this site to every cleveland sports fan (and even occasional outsiders) i talk to.
congratulations guys.
Congrats. Hopefully this is the first of many awards at WFNY.
very cool, great job guys!! Keep it coming.
Wholeheartedly in agreement. This is the first site I visit at the beginning of everyday and I often check back at least 5 or 6 more times by the end of the day. Its very informative and the more light hearted posts keep me away from the noose during our frequent ‘rough patches’ in cleveland sports. i wonder though if come summer of 09 if you guys will have to change the name to “Waiting For Next Year: Except For The Cavs Who Instead Will Be Looking To Be Repeat Champions”. Yeah…. That’s got a nice ring to it.
We’ve joked about what happens WHEN a Cleveland team wins a title…but in reality, I have no idea what we might do!
@ Rick: I think it rhymes with trap my lance.
Well deserved! Congratulations guys.
Congrats guys. Really well deserved. Keep up the good work.
Good work, gentlemen. Well deserved.
Defiantly the best Ohio Sports blog I read.
i’ve been sayin it since day one! congrats guys
[…] here to write about, however, is to say congratulations to our friends at Waiting For Next Year for being named the best Cleveland sports blog by Scene Magazine. I’d love to say that we’re going to challenge them in 2009… but I’m lazy […]
I want to echo Rick’s sentiments and thank all of you readers, from those who just read the posts to those who are active in commenting. You guys make this all worth it, and the community we’re building here wouldn’t be possible without all of you. So a sincere, heartfelt thanks goes out to you all.
I want to say thanks to everyone who takes the time to read–and to thoughtfully respond to–the things we write. I know that I owe a large debt of gratitude to the guys for bringing me on recently. I think the management of this site alone is a huge testament to the quality of the site. I came to them offering the Blue Jackets, and they were not only willing to let me do that, but also to let me chime in on many other things. There’s no better reward for doing one of my favorite things (WRITING!) about some of my very favorites things (CLEVELAND SPORTS!) than to see and know that people take the time to read it. Thanks all around!
I just read this…you guys definitely deserve this, and I’m glad you’re getting the well-deserved accolades. I’ve been saying for months now that WFNY is the place I go to when I want any info on Cleveland sports. I don’t even go to cleveland.com or any of the other mainstream media sites. When it comes to comprehensive Cleveland sports coverage, no one is better than you guys. Job well done.
