“Unbreakable Stupidity”

I know that this is odd timing given Michigan week and all.  But if you can somehow pull yourself away from the rooting interest of Brian Cook, I strongly recommend checking out his recent post titled The Perverse Joy of Abject Stupidity.

Hell, if you’ve even watched all these games and maintained enough emotional attachment to swear profusely during them, you’re at least a purple belt or a yellow belt or whatever is pretty high up on the belt list.

You probably didn’t do this by choice. Anyone with a choice either didn’t show up or left or checked out emotionally. You stayed because it was inevitable.

This, of course, is abject stupidity. I, and everyone else there, knew that the four-plus hours spent going to, attending, and returning from the game would be four of the least pleasant hours of our lives. At one point my rain-soaked uncle exclaimed to us all “we do this for fun!”

Now, this is a bit different given the fact that fans of his team have to use history books to find seasons that were this poor.  However, the quote above is something that I think we can all relate to given the past year.  Whether it was the Indians’ injuries, Ohio State’s underachieving, or the Browns’… everything.

I think Brian’s stupid for dressing up like a french fry. ;)

If we’re stupid, how dumb is Phil Savage for keeping Romeo around and believing he can still coach this team to win?

Why is it that michigan fans have such a hard time losing to NU when NU is CLEARLY the better team this year. Two of their three losses are by two of the top teams in the Big Ten. I have a hard time feeling bad for UM when they’ve had winning seasons for years on end.

At least we’re not the Lions!

TB – I think that just replaced “The Name on the Door…” for this year’s slogan

I’m impressed Aaron! I thought I was the only NU Alum who reads/comments here.

Anyways, it’s awesome that NU got to hand Michigan it’s record 8th loss! I’ve gone to all the home games this year.

I also used to root for Ohio State (in high school). Seeing the Buckeyes lose to NU in 2004 was the best game of my life (I was a freshman). However, this year’s Buckeye loss reminded me what thugs Ohio State recruits. I also didn’t like how Tressel ran up the score with that fake punt in the 4th quarter…but he says it’s a sign of respect for a good offensive team (which NU is not…).

Anyways, I certainly have no problems rooting for the Bucks to beat the Wolverines. Let’s hear it for a 3-9 season! Go Rich Rodriguez!

I chalk a lot of the OSU/NU drubbing to losing both Bacher and Sutton and becoming painfully one-dimensional.

And yeah, I was a senior for the NU/OSU game in ‘04. Best football game ever. Never been an OSU fan, was raised on Badger football.

    Aaron,
As a Michigan fan, it’s not that I’m having a hard time losing to NU. I’m having a hard time watching a team can’t score on ANYBODY except Purdue. No offense is intended, but when was Northwestern ever considered a defensive stalwart? I like Wooten and that Prince Kwatenga (sp?) guy on NU’s defense, but other than that….?

You have to understand that UM fans are in uncharted waters. We’ve never had a team this bad. We’ve never lost 8 games (soon to be 9) in a season. We’ve never lost to a MAC school.

The last two seasons have been the toughest college football seasons of my sports-fan-life, because my team has become a laughingstock for EVERYONE. At least with NU, on one ever really expects you to be great, and everyone knows that at the end of the day your players will be the ones performing our surgeries and negotiating our peace treaties.
