Open Thread: Browns vs. Colts

Sorry we’re a little late today, but so far, so good. No Bob Sanders, so hopefully that means more running by the Browns. Weather is messy, which favors the Browns as well. Plus, Randy Cross is rocking a SICK moustache today.
Colts first play from scrimmage: fumble by Addai, Browns in business at the Indy 47. Three straight runs, first down Browns. Let’s keep it going.

November 30th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Drive stalls at the 18… Phil from 35 = money in the bank.
3-0, Browns.
November 30th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
It didn’t look like money in the bank at first. My wife and I are silently watching this game as she is a Colts fan and I instituted a no cheering rule.
November 30th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Great play by Shaun Smith on the first Indy drive – more from him later this week, folks (can you smell the suspense?)
Given that, Manning is going to tear apart our three-man rush if we’re going to play 10 yards off of the receivers every down…
November 30th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
The Browns are getting gashed, but D’Qwell is playing pretty well so far.
November 30th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
B-Mac with a nice 3rd down play in the end zone forces a FG… 3-3 game.
November 30th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
You have to love when fans bring customized “Crennel 2008″ gravestones to the stadium…
November 30th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
#6 Scott:
That guy (usually three dog heads) clearly spent a lot of time on that, too.
Also nice of CBS to get the “Cowher 09″ sign on TV, as well.
November 30th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Sooner or later, DA’s going to have to throw the ball further than 3 yards, though I’d rather they rush the ball 40 times between Lewis, Harrison, Cribbs, and Wright.
November 30th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Fairly solid 1st quarter. 40 yards for Jamal, one nice carry by Wright. Only two passes by DA. Keep it up… keep Peyton and Co. on the sidelines.
November 30th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
I woulda went with:
Cowher
+Browns
__________
Superbowl
Emphasizing the CBS
November 30th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
Never want to wish injury on anyone, but if Brackett is out for awhile, that only helps the Browns’ rushing game, especially with Sanders out.
November 30th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
chab, i would’ve went with Cowher, Browns, Sanity… baby steps
November 30th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
BC NK
November 30th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
“nobody practices tackling”
oh contraire…
November 30th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
Ugh. The way the Browns will win this game is by doing what they just did, except figuring out a way to put the ball in the rasafrackin’ end zone. 9-minute drives are going to be the key to winning this game.
DA needed to throw the ball, there. Instead, he stepped up right into Mathis’s spin move and ate it.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
the line judge right on top of that play couldn’t make that call??
November 30th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Huge defensive stop
November 30th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
What a world… usually the Browns are the ones getting jobbed on weird, obscure rules.
If this holds up, holding the Colts to 3 points in a half where they got the ball first is quite an accomplishment.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Romeo running. Not good times in HD.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
I heart Cribbs. Solid punt coverage tackling.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
I just posted first half bullets.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Craig I’m starting to wonder if when you proposed, you gave your wife a list (in bullets) of why she should marry you.
Game’s not on in DC, you guys are now my play by play.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
Waiting for the other shoe to drop in the second half and for a DA pick.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Good reading, if you haven’t seen it:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3735059
November 30th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
IRB, we’ll do our best.
crazy stat: if you don’t count that last second hail mary, there were six total offensive drives in the first half. Six. And that last one for the Browns was three dive plays to kill the clock.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
Two rushes for three yards, and the requisite Edwards drop on a catchable ball on third down. Plus, Winslow went out on second down and hurt his ankle.
Sigh. He we go again.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
cribbs = team MVP
November 30th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
HUGE pick by BMac!!
The Browns sent a corner blitz, got some pressure, and Manning had to throw a bit earlier than he would have liked. First and ten Browns at midfield.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
B Mac!!!!!
November 30th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
I hate DA. Had Stallworth (is that right, Craig?) WIDE OPEN down the sideline for six… ball goes three yards out of bounds.
Randy Cross gives him a free pass because of the “wind”.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
HUGE play to Edwards who *gasp* catches the ball! First and 10 at the 25. Actually a nice throw by DA, too.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
shouldnt have taken that bong hit because I thought i hallucinated Braylon making a catch
November 30th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
Good news is Braylon hasn’t carried a gun into a club and accidentally shot himself yet.
Then again he’s nowhere near as productive as Plax either.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
I think Antonio Pierce is in trouble for that, too, IRB. ESPN has something about it online.
I refuse to believe that someone “accidentally” shoots themselves at a club. Sorry.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Ugh. Cribbs at QB, and a shoe-string tackle means MORE PHIL DAWSON.
Sheesh.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Steptoe WHIFFED on a block, too. Not good times.
Dawson = NO GOOD.
My heart…
November 30th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
nice block steptoe . . . . nice kick phil
November 30th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Side Wrangler commercial note: if you’re playing pick-up football with your buddies, and one team has Brett Favre at QB, how is that even REMOTELY fair??
November 30th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Randy Cross just said the Romeo outsmarted himself. That’s not very difficult to do
November 30th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Terrible short-yardage call. Missed field goal.
Wonderful.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
The Colts averaged 78 yards-per-game rushing the entire season before today.
They have 64 with 8 minutes left in the third quarter. With a rookie center and right guard.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
DP – what if Favre is “all-time” QB due to an odd number of guys?
November 30th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Ugh. We just cannot get off the field on third down.
Side note: Dallas Clark and Randy Cross need to have a 1970’s-moustache-off after the game.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Scott – could be, but still. They should make him play all-time linebacker.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Hurry-up offense catches the Browns with 12 (or 15) on the field on defense. Not good times if this keeps up and the Browns can’t sub.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
My favorite part of the Wrangler commercials is the fact that Brett Favre is so hilarious and down-to-earth. I mean I totally would lead my buddy a bit too much and make him dive into a giant puddle.
While hanging out in the back of my truck with seven close buddies in Wranglers.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
I’m sorry, but AGonzales did EXACTLY what Winslow gets called for every game on that play.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
Good to see Alex Hall getting some PT today, too. Where is Beau Bell? You’re telling me he can’t do as well as ADavis?
November 30th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
Good third down stop, there. Good coverage cause Manning to throw a DA-100-MPH-special to the RB for the incompletion.
Vinatieri from 46 = NO GOOD! HUGE HOOK LEFT!
November 30th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
but people LIKE gonzo . . . k2, not so much
November 30th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
This game is winnable, if the Browns can just get the ball into the end zone, for the love of all things holy.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
He mised by about 4 swctions
November 30th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Wow, the replay: Rogers abused THREE blockers and almost got a drumstick on that kick, too.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
Huge 3rd and 2 pick up. The Browns need to nickel and dime their way down the field and eat up as much clock as possible. The Colts are trying to give them this game.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
Lord, Anderson just about killed Lewis.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Great “steptoe” joke, Enberg
November 30th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
more jerome harrison!!!
November 30th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
Wouldn’t be a DA start without throwing the ball in the perfect position for a Browns player to get hurt.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
Horrible throw on third down. Enberg and Cross are giving him the “wind” excuse, but we all know better. That screen pass to Lewis that almost saw JLew minus one head afterward had nothing to do with the wind.
Great punt/coverage. Colts pinned at the 4.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Romeo should do the college move and have all of his players holding four fingers up.
Big 3rd and 1 coming up at the 13. The Browns need to find a way to get off the field here and keep the field position in their favor.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Good news! ESPN decided to imbed advertisements in the middle of their Gamecasts. Not sure what’s happening in a game, but man do I want a Quarter Pounder – wif cheese!
November 30th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
can anybody recall the last Browns TD? 8 quarters ago?
November 30th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
D’Qwell has his hitting shoes on. Wow.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
I like how every time Manning audibles, Davis and McGinnest both run to the line like they’re listening in. I don’t think this has any effect on anything, but I find it entertaining and humerous, at least.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
I second Craig’s bullet about BMac today, as he just forced another INC on third down. Bonus points for Rogers again getting some good pressure.
First and 10 Browns at the 32. A time-consuming drive that ends in 7 would go a long way to making this an uphill battle for Manning and Co.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
It would also be a small miracle.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
Where is Harrison?? The Colts’ D has figured out how to stop the Lewis-up-the-middle play.
Other than his one carry for 15, Jamal has 19 carries for 51 yards.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
WOW!! JASON WRIGHT WITH SECOND, THIRD, and FOURTH EFFORT to get the first down.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Heiden doing his best Braylon impression. That would have been a huge play.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
[swear word]
November 30th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
I would have liked to have seen a replay on that. It would have been worth a look/challenge. I mean, we’re 4-7. What do we have to lose??
November 30th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Our head coach. Maybe we shouldn’t challenge after all.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Browns start at their own 10 after a penalty on a decent return.
Anyone else feel like there’s no way we win this game? The air has been sucked out of the stadium.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Point taken, #65. Another nail in the proverbial coffin, hehehe.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
1st down, but very lucky.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
misery. utter freaking misery
November 30th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
hope is a dangerous thing
November 30th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Alright, 70 yards, two timeouts, and DA.
Ugh. I’m drinking. Heavily.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
5-yard dump passes are not going to cut it.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
No disrespect to Wright, but WHERE IS HARRISON?????
November 30th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
TO situation?
November 30th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
1:16, 55 yards, 1 TO.
He can’t keep checking down to the RB every play. It’s just not going to work with only 1:16 left.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
“I’m not sure if Derek Anderson even considers that side of the field”
November 30th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
(55 yards to go, I should say)
November 30th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
[swear word][swear word][swear word].
Anderson sacked, hurt, and lost 10 yards. 1:07 left, Ken Dorsey is our QB. 1 TO.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
Sorry, no timeouts (we lost the last one for the injury TO).
Robert Mathis just DESTROYED Shaffer.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
That’s out 70 million dollar offensive tackle
November 30th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
No Dorsey. Put in Cribbs.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
wouldnt it be badass if dorsey scored
November 30th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Or if Dorsey got pressured by Willie “Cie” Grant and threw a duck to lose the 2003 fiesta Bowl?
November 30th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
If that’s a serious injury, there goes our 2nd or 3rd round pick for DA.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
edwards with no heart. gotta fight for that one.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Just an ugly game in the second half. One lousy play.
The Browns could have won this game, but they chose not to. The playcalling was horrible. I know it’s like a broken record, but seriously… why does Jerome Harrison not play? This Colts D was missing three players later in the game (Sanders, Brackett, and Keaho) and they refuse to play their second best RB. Lewis wasn’t having any luck up the middle, and yet they refuse to bring in their outside threat RB.
If there’s any indictment of this coaching staff, that’s it right there. This game was winnable. And they’re so fricking stubborn that they refuse to mix it up and TRY TO WIN.
