Steve Aschburner gives the Cavs some huge props and compares Zydrunas Ilgauskas to Paul Molitor. I’ll take it. [Sports Illustrated]
Remember when we were all asking Mike Brown to hire an offensive coordinator type? Turns out that we may have had one over the last year or so. “In his second season as Brown’s assistant, [John] Kuester has taken over much of the detail operations of the offense. He has brought some new concepts to what the Cavs call their “early” offense, an effort to make them more effective in transition and less bogged down. It was part of a mini-makeover Brown made to his staff in the off-season. He didn’t publicly announce it because he didn’t want to add any undue pressure to his coaches.” [Brian Windhorst]
This Amare Stoudemire flop puts anything Anderson Varejao’s ever done to complete shame. What ever happened to the “fines” that were supposed to be imposed? [SLAMOnline]
A solid interview with Charles Barkley in which they further discuss the “LeBron James” issue. [BDL]
“[Raul] Ibanez will replace Pat Burrell as the Phils’ everyday leftfielder. Pat will surely be missed here, but it was made clear pretty early that his return would be very unlikely. At least he got a hero’s sendoff.” Queue up Craig’s beating of the Burrell drum! [The 700 Level]

Pat Burrell needs to be signed here. Imagine those 25-30 dingers sitting in the lineup with Grady, a healthy Victor, Peralta, Choo, and possibly Pronk.
I heard the same thing about Keuster the other night on the radio (Windy was on 1460 Wednesday around 5:00 or so). Smart move on both counts (bringing him in, and keeping it quiet) by Brown, to see how everything worked.
Something is working, be it Mo and DWest being good in their roles, or the increased movement of the ball on offense.
I’m not big on Pat Burrell. He strikes out A LOT. On those cold nights, with the wind blowing in, it’s gonna be hard to get the ball out. His strike out percentage is higher than Marte, A-Cab, and Casey Blake.
He’s all or nothing
I am glad Brown stepped up and handed some of the reigns over. It takes a true leader to admit a weakness and include other people in to make up for it. Brown’s a young coach, and the way things are going I think he is growing into great coach. It seems that his choice (and, well, my and alot of fan’s ranting) is being proven correct.
Didn’t Brown say something like “turns out I can coach a little offense” a week or so ago? That would be a little weasly…
I’m not sold on Burrell either. He made 13 million last season. I hope Shapiro doesn’t pay $12 million for a .250/30 home run guy
