LeBron James: GQ Part Deux
January 14, 2009Jackets Make a Deal for Power Play Help
January 15, 2009While We’re Waiting aims to be the round-up of the recent WFNY-esque information for your morning viewing. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.
“Just then, as I was scrambling to think of a way to sabotage Dave [Lighty], I caught Erin [Andrews] walking right at me and giving me that look that said “I’m seriously considering eloping with you.” Erin instead went with something like “Bill Simmons podcast? Nice!”, which had a little less passion than I had intended, but her blowing me a kiss and winking totally made up for it. It was at this moment that I knew exactly what was going on. People as good looking as Erin and me know a secret that they don’t tell the people who graduate from Average Looking School. It’s a little strategy called “playing hard to get” and I knew that that was what she was up to.” [Mark Titus/Club Trillion]
Great minds think alike: “When I look at Gerald Wallace, I think Cavaliers. He’s exactly the type of player Danny Ferry loves. He’s athletic. He’s versatile. He plays defense. He’s Larry Hughes if Larry Hughes were good at basketball.” [Dan Labbe]
We were looking at Pedro Martinez? “Pedro Martinez lost one potential suitor when the Indians signed Carl Pavano. Before securing Pavano with a contract for $1.5 million plus $5.3 million in incentives, the Indians had been pursuing Martinez, it was learned. The Indians never made a formal offer, but they were contemplating something in the $7 million range depending on how his health checked out.” [Jon Heyman/SI.com]
Here’s to hoping he dresses up like Steely McBeam at the same time: “For Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl the answer is about to be the name of his favorite football team. Ravenstahl has called a Wednesday morning news conference at which he’ll announce he’s “changing” his last name to Steelerstahl — at least through the end of Sunday’s AFC Championship game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and their arch rivals, the Baltimore Ravens.” [Fox News]
On Ohio State’s Brian Hartline heading to the draft: “It used to be that guys who went pro early were the absolute best of the best. They were usually sure-fire first day picks whose prodigious talents were burgeoning with such obvious force that not even the grand and prestigious expanse of college football could contain their abilities. But a wide receiver who finished the season with 21 catches? These are the people declaring for the NFL Draft early these days?” [MidwestSportsFan]
“The Lakers started the season with a dominance rarely seen in the league. […] Cleveland, on the other hand, has the best incarnation with James it has ever had, hitting on all cylinders on offense as well as defense. The addition of Mo Williams has sparked the backcourt with Delonte West and Daniel Gibson, and provided James with the offensive weaponry he has long asked for. The game’s supporting cast make up a formidable set of rotations, deep and versatile. But ultimately, everything comes back to Kobe vs. LeBron.” [Matt Moore/FanHouse]

I also didn’t understand why Hartline went early. Robo is much better than him, and his average is late 2nd- mid 3rd. I have seen two seven-round mock drafts, and he has not been on either. He is getting some false info from somewhere.
Hartline is not getting false info. You have to look at it not from a fan perspective, but from Hartline’s. He got his paperwork back and it said 5th-6th round pick. He know’s exactly where he’s going in the draft. There’s absolutely no guarantee he will improve his draft stock by coming back. None. Furthermore, he’s married and he has his degree. So, now that he has a family to support, and he’s going to be a late pick regardless or whether he goes this year or next, then why not go this year when you’re healthy? If he gets hurt next year, he has no chance of going pro.
It’s never as simple or black-and-white as just where they’re going in the draft. There are a LOT of circumstances leading to Hartline leaving. I wish him nothing but the best.
I think we’re better off with Pavano than Pedro.
I’d rather have Jamison than Wallace. I don’t think Wallace is worth the money he makes.
Pedro would’ve helped with attendance. They would’ve gotten more than 10,000 to attend games in April and May that he was starting.
If it comes down to Kobe v. LeBron, I’m glad we have LeBron. Never know when Kobe will go into crybaby mode.
Agreed LaundroMat… there’s no upside with Pedro, and the downside is that he’s injured for most of the season. The upside with Pavano is still pretty nice and the downside is the same as Pedro but costs much less.
Re: Hartline – he is also concerned that his number will suffer next year with more of Pryor under center.
OSU may do a lot more running and designed plays for Pryor to show off his skills. They won’t be passing as much as they did in the Troy Smith / Boeckman era.
They are both complete gambles. I guess I would bet on the guy who doesn’t have as many innings on his arm, but at the same time, you might be better off with the guy who has been to the top of the mountain before. That is certainly Pedro. Not that it matters, but I still don’t like Pedro one bit from all the headhunting and then his failure to come out of the dugout and fight like a man against the Tribe.
Come on, Craig, he did throw Don Zimmer to the ground…
Pryor never throws him the ball. I would leave too.
Hartline going pro baffles me but then I think about how much throwing OSU will do next year and the arm strength of Pryor and maybe then see why he left.
If Erin Andrews gained like 10 lbs should would be an 8. If she wouldn’t have gone to Gator U she would be a 12.
If Erin Andrews gained like 10 lbs should would be an 8. You’re saying down from a 9.5 right?
yeah, a little late on this (been busy), but:
“Sunday’s AFC Championship game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and their arch rivals, the Baltimore Ravens.”
arch rivals, huh? wow, we are so insignificant. what the hell are we now? has the browns/bengals become a bigger “rivalry” than browns/steelers in the eyes of the national media? sad.
