Home field disadvantage: “Can it happen here? As in, “Can it happen in Cleveland?” And it pains me to write this, but will new the Cleveland Browns Stadium ever be like Baltimore, where the Ravens took the field Thursday night having won 12 in a row and 20-of-21 games. It’s a loud, hostile, stadium for a night game. I hate to say it, but this stadium is nearly as feared as old Browns stadium was in the late 1980s in the prime of the Bernie Kosar Era.” [Terry Pluto]

Talk about accountability: “Liar, liar, pants on fire. Though Cleveland Indians ownership gave Manny Acta a vote of confidence in late August, it turns out that they were meaningless words. The three-year manager of the Tribe was sacked on Thursday afternoon and replaced with Sandy Alomar Jr., who will serve as the interim manager for the rest of the regular season and will also be a very strong candidate for the full-time role in 2013.” [Kevin Kaduk/Big League Stew]

Despite the team’s best attempt to bury this lede: “Maybe we can assume there has been contact between [Terry] Francona’s agent and Indians management, but nobody’s sat down for an interview yet. But if you’re running a baseball team and you’re looking for a new manager, you sorta have to include Francona in the process. Considering, you know, he won a couple of World Championships. Also, he seems like a pretty sharp fellow on ESPN. Of course there are all sorts of caveats, which Rosenthal explores in some depth. But if you have to bet on who’s going to be the Indians’ next manager, the smart money’s probably on Terry Francona.” [Rob Neyer/SB Nation]

Kaduk thought the vote of confidence meant Acta was safe?
“Indians kicking Terry Francona’s tires”
how can he not make the obligatory reference to ask if they were whitewalls?
There’s no chance Francona’s coming to manage this AAAA team.
Agreed with Pluto not only that but the stadium itself is a cookie cutter building slapped together in a hurry much like the franchise was in it’s return.
