Brandon McDonald: Possible Starter? Webmaster?

Brandon McDonaldWith the trade of veteran cornerback Leigh Bodden to Detroit this offseason, the Browns will need to find someone to start opposite second-year DB Eric Wright. In the few games that Wright missed towards the end of last season, Cleveland’s fifth-round selection Brandon McDonald saw some extra time and turned some heads. Apparently, he turned enough of them as the Akron Beacon-Journal’s reporting that McDonald could be the starter come week one.

The competition will be between McDonald and fellow-cornerback Daven Holley. Coach Crennel stated that whomever would not win the starting gig would immediately be the nickel DB in passing situations.

McDonald, 22, played very well over the final few weeks, amassing interceptions against the Houston Texans as well as the New York Jets, while totalling 12 tackles over the same three-week stretch. Browns fans may remember the work he did on the Texans main target Andre Johnson during their week-12 match-up that saw AJ only haul in three passes for 37 yards.

It’s never too early to start speculating, but if I was a betting man, I’d be looking for McDonald to be starting come opening day. And a fun fact that you may not know: McDonald will be wearing number 22 this season, switching up from the #30 he donned last year. How do I know this? Because his official website told me! Doesn’t every fifth-round selection have his own site?  Looks like someone should be changing their URL sometime soon.

    i hope he’s the starter.

CB is a plug-n-play position. you get cheap, young, good athletes who have some familiarity playing both man and zone in college, 3rd-5th round draft picks, and you throw them in there and they’ll do fine. the more important secondary position is the free safety when talking about pass coverage.

and the biggest variable is pass rush, which the browns will have PLENTY of this year. the secondary will be fine, each CB will do ok, and we’ll be in the playoffs. good as gold.

As far as I remember Brandon McDonald wore 22 all last year…maybe I’m misremembering this?? I could be wrong.

But he’s definitely starter material. His ability to react and his timing is insane. I don’t think he’s as good a tackler as some DBs, but I think he makes up for it by preventing his receiver from even getting the ball in the first place.

So, Wright, McDonald, Poole (?), and they need one more, correct??

This is a nice piece…. B Mac (Brandon’s nickname)… he wore #30 only during pre-season of his rookie year, but before that he had #48 (rookie mini-camp & training camp)…. Now his got #22 b/c in high school his wore #2… so #22 means dat his is twice as good… How I know this… That my younger brother… Plus he may be the only 5th round draft pick with a website b/c his the truth and cause I design it.. LOL!

thats my dawg!.. growing up it was like five of us kethonne, corey(bmac’s lil bro), robertson, Q(me), and of course B. We were real close and we all were good players in my eyes. We all said that out of all us somebody was gone make it, thinking it was gone be me cause me and rob were the first to go to college it was only junior college but we went and left our marks in high school we all stayed close cause we were boys. then it was B and kethonne B went to lafayette and then transferred to jones junior college were i was in my last year and then went on to Memphis and kethonne went to jackson state. the coaches woud always ask me about brandon not knowing that was my dawg but u all know wat i told em “the boy is the truth”. so he called me ask me wat i thought, next couple days swe teammates again. but big ups to B and his success in the league cause we knew somebody was gone make it and he did it. I know he gone do well and will be one of the household names in the league u can bet dat. and i how i knw cause he works hard and we always did no matter were we was at we stood out and plus da boy got skills.
