Jackets Playoff Push Update – 4/8
The Jackets face the Blackhawks tonight, and by all rights should buy the Hawks some dinner beforehand. The Blackhawks did Columbus a HUGE favor last night. Three games to go! Continuing my updates, here’s a quick update of the playoff picture as it applies to Columbus. Results and matchups after the jump…

Last Night’s Important Results
Chicago at Nashville – CHI wins, 4-2
When ESPN’s gamecast updated to show a Chicago empty net goal, I pumped my fist. Nashville’s loss in regulation knocked off two of the three remaining “magic number” points that Columbus needs. They’re all but in. They need one point in three games to clinch a playoff spot. Now, the Jackets can turn their attention to perhaps TRYING TO CLINCH THE SIXTH SEED. They have two points AND a game in hand against both Anaheim and St. Louis, though they play St. Louis head-to-head on Friday. Stay tuned!
St. Louis at Phoenix – STL wins, 5-1
Well, it would be greedy to be mad that the Blues didn’t lose as well, but still. Come on, Coyotes!
Tonight’s Important Matchups
Columbus at Chicago (Like I need to write a blurb about why this one is important… the Jackets can lose in overtime if they want to. Just get a point!!)

We NEED 6th if we want to have any chance of getting past the first round of the playoffs. We all but have our playoff berth clinched, our magic number is now 3 (any combination of Blue Jackets points gained in the remaining 3 games or Ducks points lost in their remaining 2 games) to have a snowball’s chance in this thing.
That being said, let’s get it done tonight! Go Jackets Go!!!

We need this point TONIGHT! I do not want to go into St. Louis Friday needing a win or tie.
Is Garth playing for the Hawks tonight? Maybe we have a chance

Mike,
Now that the Blues are tied with Anaheim, the Jackets just need to win. They can’t rely on Anaheim losing to keep 6th (as St. Louis–especially with the head-to-head matchup on Friday–can still pass the Jackets).
Agreed, though. Let’s get it done!

[...] berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Thanks to Chicago’s win over Nashville last night, the magic number is down to one. The Jackets aren’t the only team with something on the line, however: with a win, the Blackhawks [...]
